oh well... shit happens...
I tip my hat to the yankees... The Yanks got to the rotation and the pen and injury... Wake never should have been in that long, but there was no choice, I'll still go to tomorrows game... the Sox will probably win... knowing the sox, they'll win 4 and 5, just to tease use and drop #6 in NY. |

I really think they are getting swept, Yankees just have been bitching smacking them this whole series.
Oh well, I didn't have the same "feeling" this year as I did last year. I really thought they were going to win it all last year. This year though I dont know, it was a weird year, the expectations where really high and they were actually delievering to the start the season. I mean that happens a lot, but I felt good because they had a lot of injuries, but then they went on that huge slump towards the middle of the season. Once that happened I could kinda tell this year it wasn't going to happen. Will be intresting to see what happens this off season, I personally see the Yankees improving their pitching staff, and I am not really sure what the Sox are going to do but I am sure they are going to be pulling off something. Also Francona should be shown the exit, he is playing scared in the playoffs. He isn't doing things the sameway he did it during the season, isnt using the bench at all. He used the bench, and won towards the end of the year. Now he isn't making any subs at all. |

I felt better this year... Defense and Pitching, the same things that helped the Yanks win.
I dunno, a sweep wouldn't suprise me... neither would it going back to NY 3-2... I dunno... I know they have the talent... the problem is, curt going out in the 3rd of the first game killed the pen for the series... and tonight made it even worse... oh well... off season... Sox #1 priority should be Teck... and #2 I'd still go for Pedro for the right deal. I think OC is a free agent and so is Pokey. |

So, turns out I got the row 2, not row 1, tickets today... which means less leg room and no spot to put down my beer...
Oh well... I can't decide what to wear...... a) A shirt that says "I'm an orphan, will the Yankees be my daddy too?" b) A brown bag over the head, w/ the eyes/mouth cut out and "Space for rent" c) My Roger Clemens Houston Astros jersey. |

The funniest thing about that 1919 Red Sox team that people also might not remember is that you had 3 Future Hall of Famers who you traded to the Yankees in Ruth, Hoyt and Pennock.
And you had a Should be Hall of Famer in Carl Mays. Also traded to the Yankees a little later. |

Stima, I found a recent gammons article, OC is a free agent.
On a side note, 2005 is kinda ugly free agent wise also... Damon, Wakefield, Embree, Timlin, Millar, Mueller, Mendoza... and there's probably a few others... Going to be interesting to see how they shape this team over the next few years... Let's remember, a lot of guys are "retreads" or coming off injury... Millar was saved from Japan, Mueller was coming off injury... these guys are gonna want big bucks. I wouldn't be shocked to see the socks go after Beltran, even though he has Borus for an agent, to cover themselves incase Damon goes the next year. I also think the Yanks would make a serious play for Beltran since Bernie isn't getting any younger. |

I was hoping the Sox where going to trade for Beltran this season, but they never did.
The Sox added defense, but they hardly even used it in the playoffs, Reese and Doug M (still can't spell his last name lol) never even got off the bench. Millar and Bellhorn played every game all game pretty much, I don't understand why they left Bellhorn in either. He is batting like .111 Do you think Francona is gone after this season? I really have never been sold on him at all, but towards the end of the year he started to change what he was doing and I liked it. But then in the playoffs he went back to not using the bench, or not using certain guys in any spots anymore because he was scared and didnt want to take his "best bats" out. |

I don't know if that's the article you read VEL, but it covers all the free agents for 2005. Pedro is also one. Don't know if you knew that cause I didn't see him on your list up there. |

I see them resigning Teck because he's like one of thier "boys," if you want to call it that. He's like the leader of the team.
Pedro is gone and I think Lowe is too. Should be fun to see what Nomar does. |

Everyone was saying how he was "out of it" with the Expos because they were so bad, now he's with a good team with probably his 2 best friends in the majors, Ortiz and Manny. I doubt he would leave, but you never know I guess |

I don't know, I have a feeling Vazquez will be really good next year and will be their #2 guy. Giambi, who knows if he'll ever be the same again. Beltran is the guy I'm hearing is Stein's #1 priority.
As for Boston, Benson is a head case. I wouldn't give the guy a contract. You don't know what the hell you're getting with him. But he could be LIKE Lowe from 2002, or was it 03, when he won like 20 games. |

Man the Red Sox really dropped the ball against New York. 19-8? Common. it's the fucking playoffs AT HOME. Boston's pitching (minus Pedro who threw a good game in game 2) has been god awful. Yanks will hopefully meet Houston in the finals.
And speaking of Houston. I'm postitive that Big Stein will go after Beltran. As LC stated, Bernie is getting old and Beltran would be the perfect replacement (Young, gold glove caliber, and 40/40 man) I'm about 95% positive that Beltran will wear pinstripes next year. |

I love Bernie though. He, Rivera and Jeter are the 3 last remianing Yankees from what I call the "Golden Era," 96-2001. I miss those days
But Beltran is pretty fricken good. |

*cough, cough* a little credit... I don't have much else today to hold onto! ![]() I see Beltran going to the Yanks, although the Stros could make a run at him, if they decided to go after Clemens again and you have pettite coming back. I think the Sox go after Pavano... and I really wouldn't be shocked for Pedro to give the Sox a home town discount... As tough as it is to play here, he fits in w/ the players and the press understands him and when to leave him alone and such.... Yeah, OC really seems to like it here, but money talks... and the sox will only go so far, because unlike george who owns the team outright, the Sox owners (Henry/Warner) have loan payments that have to be made, so they do reach a point they have to stop. Plus, Theo had said they didn't want to be over the luxury tax 2yrs in a row, I think the MLB rule is, if you go over 2yrs in a row your tax % doubles. ok, leaning twords my Clemens Astros jersey and a bag over myhead tonight... problem is, there really good seats and the owner might not find it funny if I show up on national TV in his seats w/ a bag over my head and a Clemens astros jersey... Plus, what to put on the bag... "Space for rent" "Face hidden to protect the red sox fan" "I've been orphaned, Yankees will you adopt me?" |

Beltran is the type of character who they are saying might not want to play in a huge market such as New York (example Vlad last year). At the same time, if they offer him anything it will probably be too good to turn down.

They have money, are a decent market, but not the same coverage and press/fans as NY or Boston. |

To me, this is how I feel about the Yankees:
When I think of the team from when they were winning the World Series in the late 1990's, they were a different style of team. They may or may not have had the single best player at his position, but they still had eight guys who would go out, were damn good, and everybody knew. There was something about those guys though, like they were Yankee's and they were superior to everybody else. I don't look at them the same way anymore. Now I look at their team as a bunch of high priced free agents that they bring in from other teams. Granted back then a lot of their guys were brought in as high priced free agents, but they were different. Mike Mussina and Roger Clemens compared to Javier Vazques and Jon Lieber. They aren't even on the same level. The guys on the Yankee's right now that I think fit into what I consider a Yankee are: Jeter A-Rod Matsui Giambi Bernie Mussina Brown Gordon Rivera Sheffield is not a Yankee to me. He is one of the best players around, but he sold out to pinstriped. He was always the hardcore guy going around kicking ass for the Dodgers and Braves and Marlins I think it was? Now he's just some random guy on the Yankee's, he doesn't hold the same effect as if he's on a normal team. Posada just isn't good enough anymore. Kenny Lofton is the same thing as Sheffield. Vazquez, Lieber, Loaiza, and most of the bullpen just don't cut it, they aren't good enough to be held on the higher plateau that the rest of the Yankee's are. Just to me the guys the Yankee's have been picking up are not on par with what they used to have. I really don't think theres a better place for A-Rod than in New York, and Kevin Brown fits into that auro perfectly aswell, kind of like Clemens did when he came. Here are some guys that could become Yankee's that I think would fit into their aura: Todd Helton Mike Liebrathal Joe Mauer Garret Anderson Eric Byrnes Ichiro Larry Walker Obviously its doubtful that any of these guys ever actually join the Yankees, but just to me there is something about the typical Yankee player that a lot of their current players just don't satisfy. There are no Paul O'Niels or Scott Brosious's left, no David Justice, Chuck Knoblauch, Tino Martinez. I just think that those guys I listed would fit the Yankee aura. And I hate people that say the Yankee's suck and are bad for baseball. Its one thing to root against them, but to say they are bad for baseball is pretty rediculous. Having a team like the Yankee's makes it a focal point for the whole league, they are the one team, they play in the historical stadium, one of the biggest cities in the world, most successful team ever. If you don't have a team with that tradition then it changes every year. That may make it exciting on a different level, but there is nothing in the world that equals a team like the Twins or the A's beating the Yankees, or a team like the Marlins or Diamondbacks. If the best team in the AL had been the Angels and the Marlins beat them in the World Series, it just wouldn't matter nearly as much as if it did for the Yankees. And sure they go out and buy some real expensive players, but collective bargaining is in the works now, slowing that down. You're damn right I would be pissed if the Yankee's offered Joe Maurer 20 million and took him from the Twins, but if they do that is part of the game and there has to be a way to work around it. The Yankees don't win every game of the year and don't win every World Series either, until they do I think they are A-OK for baseball. |

For those who don't want to read that: I don't look at the Yankee's the same way as I used to but I don't think they are bad for baseball.
