You could argue that while Xavier knows Magneto can block his normal telepathy via his helmet, Xavier was talking about Magneto being able to block his use of Cerebro which amplifies Xavier's powers to the extreme. Also, in the comics, Hank would sometimes use a mask of his former appearance or an image inducer in situations where he didn't want to appear as Beast. In X2, it's possible that he hadn't been appointed Secretary of Mutant Affairs yet and would be in a position where hiding his mutancy would be much more beneficial.

I wasn't as familiar with salvadore, to be honest. I saw the wings and thought Pixie. I realized after fact when I read the Cracked thing with Beak.

I had the Havoc/Cyclops convo with someone else. We agreed that it was entirely possible that Alex wouldn't know that Scott had mutant powers. I figured at least a passing reference, like a "I can't control my powers, I haven't even seen my brother in I don't know how long." would have been a nice touch. Then again, that's just my comic nerd-ery coming through. Some subtle fan-service that doesn't make or break the movie, to be honest.

I remember there was absolutely nothing about the build to this film that excited me. I thought the story seemed shit, the costumes seemed shit, the pictures and trailers seemed shit, everything seemed shit to me.

So it's promising to hear all the positive feedback this film has receiced. I haven't seen it yet, obviously I will because it's a comic book movie and I see all comic book films at the cinema (except Catwoman and 300... I missed 300 ).

OH my god yes! Glad someone else noticed, I was in absolute awe of the score, one of the best scores I've heard in a while.

I thought this was easily the best X-men movie as in X-2 is not even half as good (despite X-2 being great) and probably up there as one of my fav comic book movies flat out.

Only issues I had: Moira not having a Scottish accent was disappointing and Alex Summers is technically way out of context given the timeline but those are so relatively minor that I couldn't care less about them overall.

Two awesome cameos and a lot of bald jokes were great for a little meta humour.

It was just amazing.

Oh and the costumes were amazing. Loved them, really want one, might make something inspired by them.

We were wrong. The movie was great. Michael Fassbender, James Mcavoy, and Kevin Bacon were excellent.

Yeah I totally though this was gonna be awful and a waste, even with the buzz i still wasn't convinced, I left the theatre with a grin the length of the Nile. Never been happier to be wrong in my life

BTW y'all should download the music score, it's a great listen independent of the movie. They've created a theme that I hope sticks in future movies, X-men might finally have a legit main theme!

That's what I'm talking about. Remember how awful we all thought it would be when the first pic of Eric with his helmet showed up?

I still haven't seen this film yet though. But 2011 definitely looks set to be a fantastic year for Marvel. Just gotta wait and see if Captain America can follow in Thors and X-Mens footsteps.

Its starting to get real annoying hearing people gripe about how the characters they used dont make sense because of the timeline. Especially the part about havik and cyclops being in the wrong order.

This movie isnt the comics, its inspired by them. Some of the characters arnt going to have the exact same origins or even have close ones.

Seriously get over the trivial shit because when you do, you see that it in NO WAY takes from the movie and the movie is fucking awesome.

True for the most part, but there are times when a movie will take a fundamental shift in direction from the source material because of a change like that. That's what really sucks about changes like that. Plenty of changes in the first 2 Spider-Man movies and it was awesome. Plenty of changes in the Fantastic 4 movies and they were shit.

General bad writing, casting and middle of the road CGI aside, yes.

Doom is supposed to be one of the scariest guys on the planet. He's the king of a country, so he gets diplomatic immunity a lot of the time. He's a genius with both technology and magic and it usually takes a whole top tier team to beat him. He's scary because as a monarch he's got craploads of money and an army and all that, but he'll beat the piss out of you with all kinds of crazy inventions and doombots and shit he has built into his armour. He once fucked up the entire Stark Tower skyscraper by detonating a doombot made of self replicating nanotechnology just because the Green Goblin (pissed him off). That same building withstood an alien invasion with super powered skrulls and superior weaponry. One time he got into it so bad with the FF that they left him in hell. Fire and brimstone hell. Point is that Doom is not to be fucked with in the comics.

In the movie, he's an executive (lame). He gets his powers from cosmic rays too (ok, that's not too big a deal, as the FF gets their shit that way too and it's less screen time spent on exposition). He turns metal and shoots electricity (I don't get this change at all. Seems like they could have just had him get disfigured, go crazy, blame Richards and rock the armour, which he ends up doing anyway. He can shoot all types of shit with the armour). Him being monarch of Latveria was an afterthought used to set up the even more atrocious sequel (Galactus, the nigh invincible, planet eating universal force was a god damn cloud). In the movie, he's kind of a dick and a bit of a threat, but nothing special. He's just kinda lackluster. He could have been the best part of an otherwise terrible movie.

Bear in mind that Doom was never in the origin story in the comics and that my issues with the movie are not to do with Doom being in it where he wasn't originally.

ok but your using the most nonsensical examples of differing from source material. And again I wouldnt say differing from the comics was what made the movie so horrible as it was just the laziness of the writers to even make a good plot.

I can't stop listening to the score on my Ipod, it's magnificent absolutely magnificent, Magneto's theme is great and the X-men theme is awesome too, it is the first memorable score the X movies have ever had.

Fuck First Class might have the best main themes since the first fucking Superman.

This movie is heh First Class all the way. Just wow, never would have imagined I'd be in love with this movie. Not when it was first announced, not when the first images came out, not when they showed Mags' helmet, but fuck I was so fucking wrong, and I love that I was. I'd say these have the best X-Men costumes too, loved the take on the classic look with a practical and logical reason for their existence

He is a real character. Saw him show up like 5 years ago. Haven't seen him much since.

I bitched too much about this movie and I ended up liking it. It was good..not as good as some claim but good none the less. Had some weird moments but Magneto and Prof were def. the highlight.

I can't get over how good this movie was. I think it's Marvel's best movie, and probably the 2nd best Super Hero movie ever.

Dunno, I really enjoyed it.

Love that Morrison goes out of his way to create new characters, and not just reuse old ones. Cassandra Nova was easily the best X-villain in the last 15 years.
