I don't think you'd be a very successful wrestler if you weren't a mark for yourself.

How have we not included Vince McMahon here?
The guy with the "My way or the highway attitude" to everything. |

And there is an even bigger difference between refusing to do something that would harm your career and the other guy's and being a mark for yourself. |

Definitely CM Punk. Come on. But I love his skinny fat ass to death.

Chavo has come off that way since his release. Other than him, I pretty much agree on everybody that has been listed so far.

I guess CM Punk is a mark for himself, but most of what he says/ does isn't overly to put himself over. The guy knows he's good, and backs it up.
Same goes for Hogan. Guy is very into himself, but the guy was the face of wrestling for so long. He is easily the most recognizable wrestler ever. Who wouldn't get an ego trip for life from that? I tend to think of more of the 'flash in the pan' type guys. Like Matt Hardy. Teenage girls loved the Hardyz in like 99/2000, and he's never really been anything more than that. And he can't get over himself being just that. |

I think to the point where he believes he is still relevant in todays wrestling world. He was amazing in the 80's/ early 90s, which most former fans/ non fans know him for. Kept himself relevant in the mid to late 90's with the nWo. Had what should have been a final run in 2002/2003 with WWE, with the nostalgia run.
What he is doing now, is doing more to hurt his legacy than maintain it, and he doesn't seem to see it. |

![]() To be fair, both Hogan and Flair have this problem, and I think this picture shows it. Depressing, to be honest. |

Hulk Hogan
Kurt Angle Bret Hart Matt Hardy Eric Bischoff Vince Russo Chavo Guerrero Names that instantly went through my head. That's not to say that I don't like the performing skills of so many people on this list -- but they definitely come off as guys who are huge marks for themselves. Like, not only to the point where they believe in themselves (as others have pointed out is necessary), but to the point where their belief in themselves in disproportionate to what they can actually do. Yeah, Hogan's the biggest name in wrestling's history -- but when he shows up it doesn't mean that ratings are suddenly through the roof -- or that the same shtick he's been doing his entire career is going to work. Hogan acting like Hogan is pretty much like if Tom Selleck constantly portrayed Thomas Magnum everywhere he went. Yeah, it can be good occasionally for a bit of a fun nostalgic trip (nothing presented too seriously), but there's a reason that Magnum P.I. isn't shown in prime time on CBS every night now, isn't there? That's not to say that there isn't room for Tom Selleck and his glorious moustache somewhere in relevant films or movies -- or for Hogan in professional wrestling -- but there's no way that it should be re-runs of the past shit Hogan has done. |
