Austin was a great draw for a few years, but Taker's been a staple for like two decades, much of which he's put asses in seats consistently, got some of the most consistent pops, and had some incredible matches. I have problems with the total laziness he often shows, and other niggling bits, but the Undertaker has been a top-tier wrestler and one of the workhorses of wrestling for almost as long as Mark's had the monicker.

Austin may have made the Attitude Era, but Undertaker was a huge hand in it. Not to mention both before and after.

Personally, I think that's why Taker's winning. I know it's why I voted for him. I loved watching Austin come in and wreck shit, and I probably like him more than the Undertaker in a lot of respects, but....

I agree with what Kane knight said but those few years of Stone Cold were far bigger than anything the Undertaker did. Ordinarily I would pretty much vote for the Undertaker against most other rasslers but Stone Cold is on par with Hogan as they transcend rasslin and are rasslin gods!

I chose Austin. I don't feel like this is a very difficult decision. Austin was a better wrestler, a bigger draw, better on the mic, and didn't have a 2 hour entrance. The Undertaker "being around forever" isn't saying much of anything. Austin's run at the top changed the direction of the company, while the Undertaker has been involved in multiple eras of Wrestlecrap. Yes, he has had some epic matches at the last 4 Wrestlemanias, but lets not forget for every Shawn Michaels/Triple H classic, there were the Kama/Mabel/King Kong Bundy/Kamala/Giant Gonzales shitfests. I know some people prefer him, but I think Austin is easily the choice here.

You can't really blame Taker for being put up against those guys though. He was constantly put up against big useless giants because of his own size and they needed to make it seem as though they were a threat to him, especially during the 80's and early 90's when wrestlers were still much more similar to cartoon or comic book characters than "sportsmen".

True, but it was detrimental in terms of match quality and feud quality. Unless Austin/Rock was feuding with him he was relegated to secondary feuds. Don't get me wrong, he's been a staple since 1990, but being around (as seems to be the reasoning of some) shouldn't put you on a pedestal with those who've had the influence of an Austin, Rock, DX, Hogan (as much as I hate admitting it). He also WAS in pretty shit shape during the ABA phase, which I also never enjoyed.

I believe Undertaker the character is definitely a legend, and Mark a deserving one, but to say he's better than Austin I think is a bit off.

I'm loving the feel of this thread right now. Good job, guys.

I was pretty much entertained by Austin from Stunning to Stone Cold, right up until the end of his WWE run where he was relentlessly stale and clearly unmotivated.

I've never been a big Undertaker fan. His feuds back in the day were abysmal. I may get crucified for this, but I preferred him as Booger Red to pretty much anything else he did...OK, the Ministry days were kinda cool, but I still wasn't really feeling him much then. I respect him and what he's done for the industry, and he has definitely had some fantastic matches in his twilight years, but I don't know if anything will be enough to erase my shitty memories of him.

Especially when he's up against Steve fucking Austin.

Austin's kinda like Punk in that he had that period as a badass where he blew up then got lahme and watered down.

You could also argue that Undertaker did the same schtick from 1990-1995...no-sell, no-sell, no-sell, old-school, chokeslam, tombstone. The only thing that changed it was that fat fuck Mabel leg-dropping his face requiring him to look like a faggy phantom of the opera.
