Mil Mascaras is arguably the greatest star in the history of Mexico behind only El Santo, and he also competed around the world in AJPW, he was the first masked wrestler to compete in Madison Square Garden, wrestled in Puerto Rico, WCW, etc. He isn't some random internet darling chosen from a "Best of Mexico" trade tape.

You are correct about Mil Mascaras never wrestling for WWE outside that one Rumble stint. I personally believe he belongs in the AAA and/or CMLL Hall of Fame and not in the WWE HOF, but with the induction of Abdullah the Butcher, it appears WWE will continue to induct those ill-known within the WWE fan base but having a cult following outside.

I expect WWE would induct Hiro Matsuda if its Asian American audience was as large as its Spanish American audience. Heck, someday they might induct Steve Corino, Generico, or Kevin Steen if they amass enough following outside WWE. I don't agree with the practice, but WWE sees the HOF as a marketing gimmick and will try to win crossover fans like they have tried with celebrity inductions.

Mil Mascaras was also a huge draw in LA and surrounding regions and would have went in eventually regardless of Del Rios involvement with the company. Your issue seems to be that you've no real idea who he is or what he's accomplished so clearly its to give Del Rio a pat on the back.

It was clearly done for Del Rio and other Mexicans. He would not have gone in for his "LA and surrounding regions" contributions.

That said, I have zero issues with that because I recognize that the WWE Hall of Fame is not a "legitimate" entity, but that is just for the purposes of business and entertainment.

Its a HOF based on who they want to acknowledge as being 'worthy', I'm not saying he wasn't put in as a marketing ploy for the hispaic market in the same way Inoki went in to gain the press attention in Japan or Khali is there to bolster the Indian market, but like Inoki he's deserving of a place in any HOF for his overall legacy.

Actually Mil Mascaras was in the wwwf around the mid to late seventies,possibly 80- 81.He never stayed in one place too long.Also I believe that Bruno Sammartino should be inducted here,it's the perfect time for him to be in.WWE might make some kind of story line with Punk n ruining Bruno's HOF induction cause of the whole best in the world and best champ of all time thing.Also might be an angle for Bruno to come back and train someone to beat Punk(that's a longshot there, but you never know)

Its a HOF based on who they want to acknowledge as being 'worthy', I'm not saying he wasn't put in as a marketing ploy for the hispaic market in the same way Inoki went in to gain the press attention in Japan or Khali is there to bolster the Indian market, but like Inoki he's deserving of a place in any HOF for his overall legacy.

I never understood why people view the WWE Hall of Fame as a joke. Since they started doing annual inductions at WrestleMania 20, I would argue there is not a more visible and credible entity to honor pro wrestling's past. You can nit-pick and bitch about Pete Rose or Drew Carey, but the majority of the guys in the Hall of Fame are more than deserving of having a night in which their career and legacy is honored and given a spotlight some of them have never gotten.
