The terrain and vehicles aren't fully destructable in Halo 2. The vehicles have some parts that fall off and to that such, but in Red Faction you could blow paths through walls and dig huge holes in the ground along with taking whole floors out from under people by shooting it out.

Yeah but those are just certain areas in which they had placed that can be destroyed. They add a wall in a certain place that you can break and get through, etc. I know the vehicles explode and everything but I was mainly talking about the environment.

In RF2 it wasn't but in the original (classic) it is. The levels were quite big as well and being able to destory it was just even more fun. There's a level that takes place in an office and you could get to the roof by digging into the wall, shooting out a hole in the ceiling, and making stairs up there. That's entertainment right there.

Yeah FPS games on console are a waste of time IMO, Goldeneye was the shit back in the day, but playing and FPS online over a PC > playing one on console.

I thought for the most part that Halo's controls and aiming system were what made the game money for multiplayer. Those things are based on personal preference though so I can see how some people wouldn't like the game as much, especially people who went from Goldeneye to TimeSplitters 2 instead of trying out Halo in between.
That's the main thing to me that puts Halo in front of all the other FPS. I can dominate the game because my gun aims where i need it to and I can face the direction I want to face. Alot of other first person shooters I've played just make it too difficult for me to get a shot off in the middle of a good battle. The other big factor in Halo, and I've argued this before, is who you play with. If you play with people that are way better than you are, there is no way you'll like the game. My friends and I play alot of people on Gamespy, and 70-80% of winning is positioning. Controlling the Rocket Launcher and Overshied are crucial. People who don't know the Maps, where you can be seen and where you're really hidden are just easy pickings. They get all pisssed off and cry about how stupid the game is compared to something else they've played. I can see their point. If I tried to take you guys on in RF or unreal i'd get destroyed and probably wouldn't be too big a fan of either of those games. Its all preference. |

Why do people like HAlo?
I can't talk about the rest of the Halo Fans, but me, I've never liked FPS.
Hell I had never heard/seen any screen or hype surrounding HAlo when I bought my X Box. The only reason I bought it was the cooperative play promised in the package. Now who doesn't love that kind of gameplay (well, unless you have no friends or brothers in my case) I mean there are few cooperative ones, and most of them are vs. So I jumped at the chance to play this. And I was blown away by it. It was really good! I mean, good story, good gameplay, and I am not jumping in any bandwagon when I say it's one of the best games I've played EVER. I mean Golden Eye is FPS king, but all the fun I had playing with HALO can't be taken away by some X Box haters, for all the good times and fun it gave me, HALO is #1 in my book, and that is why it's so good to me. |
