It's why they took the belt off Brock and put it on Eddie. Eddie was drawing massive numbers with the Latino crowd. It's actually part of the reason why Brock left the WWE the first time. He wasn't happy about it.

I remember the dirt sheets saying Brock wasn’t happy because he thought Eddie was too small. And I knew Eddie was a big draw in the Latino market but I didn’t think it was such a draw that they usurped their franchise for him.

Now I’m curious to see what his segments and ppvs drew.

I’m 99% certain his program with Batista was gonna lead to him taking the belt off of him. I know he eventually got hurt but I wouldn’t doubt if they were planning Eddie v Batista at Mania 22.

Don’t think the plan was to put the belt back on Eddie. I don’t think he would have wanted it either. But when Batista goes out with an injury in early 2006, it’s possible they just flip the switch and go with Eddie and make Eddie/HBK a title match. More likely they just do a reworked version of Orton/Angle or Orton/Angle/Rey.
