I picked up the record today. Ironically, they copy controlled it to prevent file-sharing, without which I wouldn't haven purchased this CD.

What's weird is that copy-control thing is so iffy... I put the CD in my computer the first night and it played with MusicMatch Jukebox no problem. Tried it the next day and it was scrambled... had to launch the player that comes with the disc. Same with APC's Thirteenth Step and Nickelback's Long Road.

I posted an article in Discussion on the matter...Well, the link, anyhow. Bottom line is, I couldn't even tell you that APC's 13th step had copy protection. It ripped fine for me, a player never loaded up.

Velvet Revolver's copy protection can be beat by disabling your CD-Rom drives' autostart. The stupid thing is that it seems to recognise my Discman as an computer, because it locks up. And yet, I could pop it into my stereo's CD-R and have a copy made in under thirty minutes, digital quality...

So a legitimate player? a burner? Like that makes sense.

Copy protection's bullshit anyway.

It does indeed. It just makes me want to not recomend it to people, because I hate copy protection. Shoot yourselves in the foot, guys.

I've had a chance to give it a good (albeit partial) listen since I did a bit of pointless driving the other day (I can never force myself to sit down and listen to a CD in my room, listening to it with that gay player on the computer is annoying and if I'm driving somewhere specific I find it hard to pay attention) and I've gotta say I love "Fall to Pieces" and "Illegal i Song". The rest before and inbetween are good, but those jump out as something special, warm and fuzzy.

Also, when listening, I'm reminded of the Cult's "Beyond Good and Evil" during parts... is it any coincidence that drummer, Matt Sorum, played for both?

Bull FUCKING shit! I'm fed up... I can't listen to this on my computer... runnning the player/page thing that comes with the CD doesn't cut the mustard my friend and holding down shift while I put the CD in to disable auto-start doesn't work. And, just now, I tried copying a song in MusicMatch... it gets to 30% and a "memory error" causes MM to shut down... yeah... RIGHT!

By the way, hitting "Shift" doesn't work if it's already loaded on your computer. It stays in memory until you reboot (Unless you install it, in which case it stays period...).

Scott Weiland Sentenced To Three Years' Probation For DUI

Nearly eight months after his arrest for driving under the influence of drugs, Scott Weiland was sentenced Thursday in a Los Angeles court to three years' probation, during which he'll be treated for his drug problem.

Weiland had pleaded no contest to the misdemeanor charge earlier this week, which stemmed from his arrest on his 36th birthday, October 27th (see "Scott Weiland Involved In Car Crash; Arrested For DUI"). The Velvet Revolver singer's BMW struck a parked van, and as part of his sentencing, he was ordered to pay restitution to the owner of the parked vehicle, in addition to a $390 fine.

Under the terms of Weiland's latest probation, he'll be required to enroll in a six-month drug-treatment program and attend three Narcotics Anonymous meetings per week for the next three years. Weiland will also be required to submit to regular drug testing, as well as periodic drug testing at the discretion of the police (with or without probable cause), according to the city attorney's office. During this probation, Weiland is prohibited from being in the possession of, or under the influence of, both alcohol and drugs.

A week before this most recent arrest, Weiland had been congratulated for staying clean by a judge overseeing his probation from two felony charges of possession of heroin and cocaine. Upon hearing of the DUI arrest, that judge determined the latest charge was a violation of Weiland's probation and revoked the singer's freedom, ordering him into detox (see "Scott Weiland To Enter Rehab Immediately, By Order Of Judge"). The lockdown aspect of his rehab was later amended, and he will have completed the terms of his sober-living program under that probation by the end of this month, at which point he was scheduled to have six more months of after-care counseling and testing.

There's no word yet if Weiland's new probation will affect his current one, but the city attorney's office anticipates that they'll run concurrently. That matter will likely be decided at the singer's next probation status report hearing, scheduled for July 30.

At least it was only alcohol and not drugs this time. I love the guy, but I'm pretty sure he'll OD within the next few years. But then again, we've been saying that for a while now.

Personality-wise, Scott Weiland reminds me way too much of Layne Staley.

Staley is now dead of a heroine overdose. I don't see Weiland being too far behind, even as clean as he's been lately.

Velvet Revolver reminds me of Audioslave. They're a bad supergroup with a terrible name.
