Yeah you have a point, but I think the Cal Kickoff return against Stanford is pretty pro. With the band all on the field and stuff.

Ray Houghton's half volley over the head of Gianluca Pagliuca at the 1994 World Cup in New York in front of a massive Irish crowd, when beat Italy 1-0. The rest of the matches were shit, but that performance was immense.

Jason McAteer's goal against Holland, when we were down to 10 men, and they had 4 of the world's best strikers on the pitch trying to get past Shay Given and Roy Keane put in the most unbelievably dominant and fucking incredible performance I have ever seen by any footballer.

Robbie Keane's last minute equaliser against Germany in World Cup 2002. We were all resigned to losing, because Kahn was keeping everything out. Could have won the game six times over. Watched it in a room full of mates and we all went fucking crazy when Robbie snuck in to score the last minute goal. I love that guy.

the best part of the '94 world cup was when they wouldnt let john aldridge on the pitch and he went fucking crazy with the forth official, then once on the pitch the camera switched to jack charlton who was stil going mental at the forth official!

jack charlton i fucking love that guy!

also in '94 world cup houghton got booked for having a bag of water on the pitch even though it was like 90 degrees

The first that comes to mind is Favre's Monday Night game against Oakland last year the day after his dad died. It was one of my favorite experiences ever watching a football game.

I might not be Irish, but I've gotta agree those were some classic footballing moments.

I have the U2 DVD "Go Home: Live from Slane Castle", which was shot several hours after that Ireland v Holland game in 2001.

In the middle of New Year's Day, Bono drapes himself in an Irish flag some nutter from the crowd threw to him and proclaims "IT'S JASON McATEER!"

Gave me goosebumps, and I'm not even Irish.

I was at the better Slane gig the week before. That day (of the DVD) I was at home watching the Holland match in my house. Our whole family was around for some reason, and everyone went nuts.

Watching that Slane DVD from that day gives me goosebumps too. That was the best times of my life, that summer when Ireland qualified for WC 2002 and I finished school.

I remember a couple of good moments in the qualifiers for the 1994 World Cup too.

One was when Ronald Koeman cynically pulled David Platt's shirt and brought him down when Platt was through on goal. Platt had just made it into the box, but the ref gave a free kick just outside the box instead, and only gave Koeman a yellow card instead of the red he deserved.

The best moment came when Koeman later stepped up to swing home the free kick that effectively knocked England out of contention.

The other was on the final night of the qualification series, when the Republic were playing Northern Ireland in Belfast. Jimmy Quinn put the North in front with a screamer of a volley, then Alan McLoughlin equalised late on with another stunning volley to get the Republic the point needed to qualify for their second World Cup.

If you watch it the band didn't really stop any Stanford players from making a play or catching up to the Cal player. In fact if I remember correctly the Cal player even ran into a band member, slowing him down.

...

That is not what I meant. The guy that pitched the ball, the third pitch I do believe? His knee was down.
