I think that the South could rival -- defending NFC champs, the totally retooled Bucs, the always-competitive
![]() I'd love to think the North can compete, as the Lions have Mooch and a LOT of talent. I don't know much about the AFC, but the co-MVPs share a division, with young and constantly-improving Jacksonville and Houston... they are a division to watch. But remember, any given sunday... Even now, Sean Taylor and Brian Urlacher are injured. ![]() |

Can someone clarify something for me?
The Eagles seem to have a history of injuries. Both of their CBs and their star FS last season, Brian Westbrook, Correll Buckhalter the year before... McNabb frequently is injured... they tend to have a lot of injuries on the Defensive line... Are they playing on turf? :chin: Because I get the feeling that Kearse might not make it a full season... and if he ends up slowed by injuries, remember one thing: The Eagles signed him for a very long time for a very large sum of money. ![]() And when I mentioned Owens being coached by Reid... what I said was, someone on ESPN.com stated that Reid has changed his philosophy to fit TO into the scheme. If Andy Reid has changed his philosophy to allow TO to run free... how will that affect the team as a whole? What if he has to let Owens run his mouth and do whatever he wants, which leads to more and more players running their mouth, to the point where Reid no longer has any power? Lots of what-if's... but we can speculate, because Andy Reid has admittedly changed his approach to coaching. This is not the same Andy Reid who makes it to the NFC championship every year. Oh no. This is an Andy Reid under the thumb of his star receiver. ![]() |

T.O. is whiny, overrated and can be shut down when the opposing defensive coordinator is on top of his game.

1) Lincoln Financial Field has natural grass. They do not play on turf like they did at the Vet. 2) Jevon Kearse's contract is a 8 year deal with the last remaining years very backloaded. He agreed to the contract due to the nice $16 million dollar signing bonus we gave him. He played in 14 out of 16 games last year, racking up 28 tackles, 9 1/2 sacks, and 1 Int. And, no NFL contract is guaranteed. 3) When you add TO to a "spread the ball around West Coast offense", things will change a bit. More balls will be thrown his way than there were the way of James Thrash. But TO wont be "RUNNING FREE". At the press conference of TO's signing/trade/whatever, Coach Reid mentioned that he had a talk with TO and layed down how things will be done around here and TO accepted those "rules". San Francisco was TO's team. TO was the leader. Here in Philly... TO takes a backseat to #5. McNabb leads the team. 4) Andy Reid has complete control of the team. He is the GM as well as the Coach. He doesnt hesitate cutting players that are too much money (Taylor and Vincent), too old (Hugh Douglas) and too much of a problem (Trotter when he left). Andy Reid only answers to the higher ups (Jeffery Lurie, the Owner). He doesn't answer to TO, TO answers to Coach Reid and #5. 5) Injuries: McNabb: Broken Ankle 2002 (threw 4 TDs with, I was at that game). Came back for the playoffs, was not the same. Wasn't the same until 7 weeks into season last week. Injured Ribs, during NFC Title game, last hit by Panthers D-Lineman (I forget who.... one of the ends I think) Westbrook: tackled by Trotter, Week 17, fell and tore tricep. Freak landing. Buckhalter was not injured last season. He was suspended for the Week 16 game (49ers) for missing a meeting. Another example of Coach Reid showing his authority. Buckhalter did tear his quad during the 2002 Training Camp, leading to the Eagles signing Dorsey Levens. The defensive line got ripped up last season. Hollis Thomas is repeately injured. One year his ankle, last year his shoulder. A big part of this season is for them to be healthy. |

Kearse always has nagging injuries, never has been the same since his breakout season years ago. He is overrated. Premier DE should post 15+ sack seasons, which he didn't do.
Injuries are always tough, it happens to every team, it is a toss up and can't be helped I'm afraid. |

Plus sacks arent everything for DEs. Just like home runs in baseball. It isn't the most important stat. The Phreak has been brought in to provide sacks, command doubles teams to free up the rest of the defensive line (Pro Bowler Corey Simon, Darwin Walker, ND Kalu/Jerome McDougale/Derrick Burgress) and provide pressure on the quarterback to allow the Eagles to blitz less and have the linebackers drop back into coverage. Thats why The Phreak is here. Injures are toss ups and happen to all the teams. Not a lot of people realize that we have been hit with a lot of them the past 2 seasons and HAVE STILL GOTTEN TO THE NFC TITLE GAME. By the way... TO has already bitched. The players are required to wear shorts during mini-camps. TO doesnt wear shorts, he likes his tights. Well guess what, after a discussion...... TO WAS WEARING SHORTS DURING MINI-CAMP. |

JJ loves to blitz yes. But with the younger Cornerbacks (who did play great last year), the Eagles want to keep pressure off of them. We acquired Kearse to provide more pressure on the QB so we dont have to keep blitzing. Our blitzs now will be out of control. Kearse still warrants a double team. 2 teams who will double team him... Dallas and the NYG. Thanks, the reserves do step up. Heres the question: Eagles win the game, with TO having 2 Catches for 34 yards. Is he happy? He should be because he wants the ring. It isnt about his stats. If he is happy winning the game and having small production, then there is no stopping the team. That is yet to be determined. But from what TO says, he will be happy. He came here for the Ring. Last edited by Sensei Of Mattitude; 07-29-2004 at 01:34 AM. |

Nah, you didn't say Kearse is invicible, but he surely won't be 100% healthy the whole season, I can almost guarantee that given his history.
I hate the fact everyone thinks the Giants line is shit, we have good players, just because we haven't had them playing together for some number of years means jack shit, seeing as how that doesn't happen hardly at all in the Free Agency Era. The NFC is so closely knit that there is no way the Eagles are guaranteed an NFC Championship appearance again, much less a ring. |

You cant "almost guarantee" Kearse will be injured. He has played 6 seasons and missed 14 games. Thats not terrible. You can spectulate and say maybe he will. But no "almost guarantee".
The Giants line has not played well. Plus they quit last year as did the team. The Eagles Oline has played together for the past couple of years now and they are a well oiled machine. They know how to play with each other. Now that Welbourne is gone (who was also injured last year, and replaced by Artis Hicks who played well) and Shawn Andrews is in, there will be some learning time for them. But its not as drastic as the Giants line is. I dont think the NFC is so tightly knit. As I see it, the Eagles and Seahawks are elite teams. With a bunch of good teams in the Rams, Falcons, Panthers, Packers and Vikings. Can the "good" teams win, yeah because its happened. But dont hold ur breathe. |

Falcons aren't that good, as aren't the Vikings, who seem to flop every year.
NFC Standings 2003: Philly 12-4 St. Louis 12-4 Carolina 11-5 Dallas 10-6 Seattle 10-6 Green Bay 10-6 Minnesota was 9-7, one game off of the Pack With teams being so even, it is not guaranteed. Like AB said, any given sunday...anyone can beat anyone. |

but thats last year Gonzo
yes, i agree.... Any Given Sunday. I was at the Eagles/49ers game last year. I didnt expect the Birds to lose. They did, in OT. But what im saying is.... at the start of this thread (which is titled NFC EAST) that the Eagles are the 3 Time Defending East Champs, and are the favorites to win it again and quite possibly to the Superbowl and IMO they will at least GET TO THE SB this year. |

![]() The Vikings improved in every area, you bastard. Some experts give them respect, others don't. It depends on how you value the talent they imported. Denard Walker was the reason we didn't beat the Cardinals. I am pretty sure the reason we flopped was coaching inexperience. Majorly stupid decisions. We don't flop. We choke. In 98, we were injured and the Falcons exploited the injuries by keeping our weak defense on the field longer. By the end of the game, half of our starters had to be carted off. In '01, injuries slowed us, but a lack of unity killed us. John Randle and Cris Carter were both killing team morale. Our veteran leaders. The captains of both sides of the ball. Nobody wanted to win in 2001, because their leaders didn't want to win. ![]() Can't forget, the Giants heard the Minnesota huddles. Kinda made for lopsided football, and since the Gints couldn't even manage to whimper against the Ravens in the SB, they proved they didn't deserve to be there. |

They had the #1 offense in the NFL last season, despite missing Pep for 2 games, Bennett for 7, and having no #2 WR.
We have a #2 WR, a fully healthy Bennett and Pep... and improved on defense bigtime. So we are a top-5 team. Patriots own us, but the Eagles are lacking too much talent on both sides of the ball. Do they have a lot of talent? Sure. But they're not stronger anywhere than the Vikings. Dawkins might be a step up from Chavous, but if Dawkins can stay healthy, he's still not better than both Chavous AND Russell... and the other safety for the Eagles... I forget his name. Two practically rookie corners... Actually I think what you have is a better coach, and that makes all the difference. But if MN isn't elite talent-wise, then the Eagles aren't either. |

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAH
Dawkins "MIGHT BE A STEP UP" from Chavous? Are you fucking kidding me? Brian Dawkins is one of the most feared safeties in the NFL. I dont hear anyone being scared of Corey Chavous. I have no idea who your other safety is. Russell? Whats his first name? Michael Lewis, our SS is a devasting hitter and was the "veteran" when Dawk, Vince and BT went down last year. Lewis held Lito, Sheld and Clinton Hart together. The Eagles arent stronger in any area? Explain how that is so when your team was 9-7 and mine was 12-4 for the 2nd straight year. The Eagles have the most wins out of ANY TEAM IN THE NFL for the past 4 SEASONS! All of the NFL pundits predict the Eagles in the Super Bowl. John Clayton from ESPN picked the Birds on a Fact or Fiction segment on SC. |

![]() HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Way to evade the question. The Vikings have been rebuilding. Last year they fell apart under a new head coach. If they do the same this year, he will be gone. Vikings still match up favorably with the Eagles. Better CBs, better offensive line, better WRs, better HBs, the D Lines might be equal if not in Philly's favor, but the LB corps of both teams suck. Both teams have good safeties, with one pro bowler and one solid starter. Oh wait, Akers is definitely better. I hate to say this, because I know the Vikings are the most dominant team offensively, they still might not have what it takes to go all the way. Because of Mike Tice, and Mike Tice alone. |

The Eagles are strong, but I would bet money that the Vikings can rip them up in the air. Their secondary, while it may be good, is nothing compared to last year with Free Agent movements.

On the subject of coaching, Andy Reid is in for some battles this year. Parcells already gave him trouble last year, but now Gibbs and Coughlin. This division has been touted as having the best coaches in the league.

By week 2 he should still be healthy, and Westbrook's talent will be matched up with the talent of our front seven. And as you said, as it stands, the Eagles defense won't be able to touch the Vikings offense. If they execute. Which I am afraid they won't... because I tend to get let down by my teams when in situations where there is trash talking. ![]() |
