I'm an Aussie also, and I too believe British humor is far more funny than American humor. No argument.

Yeah the Brit Whose Line blows the American one out of the water. Always thought that Tony Slattery dude was funny.

I like how a simple question turns into an assault on your way of life, yet the original wording still exists plain as day for everyone to see. No statement was ever made that American humor is superior. I just asked for an understanding of what british humor was, and whether or not it was a realistic sample of the british population. I for one do not care for much of the "american" style of placing half a dozen hot people in a coffee house to chat about sex all afternoon, but those of you overseas probably feel that this is true. Likewise, I only wanted a correction on the reality of your situation.

No you didn't ask for an understanding of what British humour was, you asked if we find it funny when a man runs around in womens underwear.
So are you gonna tell us what program you saw this in then or not? |

I was refering to an episode of family guy where two british guys said something wasn't funny...not like a man running around in women's underwear. Not being british, my understanding of what this humor is is limited. So I based it on what I know.
Relax. Take a deep breath. Count to ten. It's not like I'm making fun of you. And yes, I'm well aware of the TVR tuscan speed 6 as well as the speed 12. (actually my name is a variation of this and Tucson Arizona, where I grew up. I was hoping somebody would eventually notice this so I could rep them. So rep to you.) Again, I must urge you that I am not doing any kind of insulting here. No need for any "motherfucker"s and whatnot. |

Benny Fucking HILL! That's the guy I kept thinking of! There you go! It's not a guy running around in women's clothing, but it's what I was thinking of when I made this thread.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh...now we're getting somewhere.
Dunno, Benny Hill and the Carry On films, that sort of thing...it represents a *part* of British humour, but nowadays it tends to be seen as sort of the older generation's humour...modern-day stuff is the equal of anything anywhere in the world. |

Early in his career he was actually a pretty decent standup. But yeah, all he's really remembered for now is the chasing around with the crazy music and everything

I think Australian Humour is the best, Basicly because we are laid back with our jokes, unlike the British who seem to speed things up, then the Americans who say things that are not funny at all and usually about something in the news to keep subject to the mass population.
actually forget that, this is what matters. America = different pitch of voice/current events/sexist-homophobic-racist comments/jokes/motion British = music/speed/shock humour/awe stuck stupid questions/faces Australian = Experiences/ voice attention levels/loops (one joke leads into another later on i.e. "and I fell over the stool", "Yeah, then I fell down the stairs, stupid Stool") / motion by the way, most American comedy acts I find boring. I find some British acts funny, but some are boring as well. I find most Australian Comedy acts to be good, but some are crap. I guess it all depends on which culture we grow up with. |

I don't like British humor, but then again I am American, there's just something about men in drag that doesn't appeal to me. But then again I don't like Seinfeld, Frasier, Friends, Will & Grace, or 90% of American sitcoms either. I like shows like Mash (the original seasons with Trapper and Blake more than the later ones), Cheers, and Arrested Development.

You are going to enjoy the comedy in your own culture, that is how it is. You are raised in that culture, so naturally you will find that comedy funnier than another culture's. Simply put.

have you seen the office? that is a good comedy yet america tryed to copy it and basically killed it. now that is down to the producers trying to make it more americanized and it just didnt work. i saw the american pilot episode of this and it was rubbish, yet the british one has me laughin my bollocks off.
different cultures have different humour, take chris rock, eddie murphy when they did stand up. to me they werent anything special but others may think different, but if i was to compare them to billy connelly and peter kay the british pair should come top in anyday IMO. if you want to watch a good british comedy from the bennyhill era (70's/80's) please dont judge us on that. in its day it was funny but not now, however if you watch monty pythan (the life of brian & the holy grail), only fools and horses, fawlty towers and you will see british humour at its best from that time (which is still funny now). others id name for you to watch: little britian, bottom, the fast show, the young ones, pheonix nights, the royal family, black adder, shooting stars, vic reeves big night out. |

Where'd you see the pilot of the American version of The Office? Did it air already? I don't have any high hopes for it in the slightest but I am curious to see what the deal with it is. I'm American and The Office is one of the most genius creations in comedy I have ever seen. |

it was on E4 months ago, they only showed it once then followed it with the pilot british episode which was a lot funnier. David Brent is the man just for comments like:
'i have some good news & some bad news for you, the company is moving to reading so most of you will lose your jobs, on a more positive note ive been promoted so every cloud has a silver.... your still thinking about the bad news arnt you?' & 'once i thought i saw the light at the end of the tunnel, then i realised it was just some bastard with a tourch bringing me more work' also i love it when garth asks if anyone has seen his stapler and the other guy goes o yeah sorry i borrowed it, then gives him it back but its in the middle of some jelly! |

I think the reason I hate British "comedy"(including Monty Python) is because it's so arrogant. It's just so pretentious and "we're so funny". I also hate it because when I say I don't think it's funny, I'm greeted with "You don't get it, that's why you don't like it.". No, it's just not funny. Damn I hate British comedy.

Off the top of my head? I pretty much hate all these shows that are supposed to be "funny", which star untalented, flash in the pan dopes like Friends, Fraiser and Arrested Development(not funny). I hate probably 95% of all sitcoms. If I can name one off the top of my head, it would be the one that pretty much everyone else on here has said.
Seinfeld is, and will always be, the funniest sitcom ever. I even put it so high as on the best SHOWS ever. I can't really name more than Seinfeld, but what I was trying to do with my post was point out how arrogant some British comedy is. ![]() Shameful Cena mark. |

I think that overall British humor is better than American. And I think my opinion is quite impartial as I'm Finnish.
