Anyway, back on topic. I agree hhh's promo's can be good, but basically he needs to shorten them down to about 5-10 mins also not 10-20 mins. I also flicked the channel over about three times while he was talking, then i stopped turning the channel and put it on mute..i had enough time to listen to a song that lasted 7 mins before he finished...i feel sorry for the people who were watching it there, i even heard a few 'boring' chants, did anyone else hear them?It was at the start of it when he was talking all the usual shit.

See, herein is the problem...

Triple H could be Jesus, Martin Luther King, Winston Churchill, or Superman. He could rock the mic like his lips were magic. He could fellate the audience, and the pauses, the boring rhetoric, and the drawl (He mayuh...Not talkuh...Like thisuh, anymore, but still...) would still KILL him.

You see, nobody can appreciate your brilliance if they're flipping to another channel. Or (My personal favorite) talking it up with friends with the volume down while drunk.

Yeah I dont know what people were smoking to think that was a great promo. After watching it, I thought it was terrible.

As some other people have mentioned, the main problem is that he took 3 times as long as it would take a good promo guy to say the exact same thing.

In terms of putting people over, he did none of that. He buried Orton, buried the Orton-Taker match at Mania, burried Smackdown, buried JBL, and buried Cena.

The only person he kinda put over was Taker by saying Taker would kill Orton.

Aside from that it was a typical deal from HHH where he makes 95% of the roster look irrelevant so he can try to convince himself that he's the best in the business.

The funniest part was when he put down JBL calling himself a "God". The funny thing was that when JBL calls himself a "God" the joke is we all know he's not, but by saying it he comes off better as a heel. The difference with Hunter is that he actually believes he's the best, which is a joke. There are better promo guys than him, there are better workers, there are guys who sell more tickets, there are guys who are more over, and there are guys who have a better combination of all those things.

Dont get me wrong, I think Hunter is a good talent, but listening to him yammer on for 20+ minutes about how he's the best at the expense of the rest of the company isn't my idea of doing a good promo.

Cynick

no offence but isn't the goal of a promo to put yourself over?

In promos, putting someone else over makes you look extremely weak.

And HHH didn't "burry" these people like you said

The goal of wrestling is to get exposure, and so if the end result is to crush everyone else and make the business weaker for it, then you're doing a good job.

Just like the goal of a heel is to make people care less and flip channels while he talks. People not watching the show out of boredom=teh ratingz

Hunter's only objective should be to make people want to see Batista kick his ass.

Making JBL, Cena, SD and Randy Orton look inferior does not do that.

And yeah he did bury them, watch it again if you have to.

Simple
HHH isn't a great promo guy(Flair is STILL better), has lost some of his in-ring ability, and can't put on a good match w/ just anyone(like Angle, Chris Daniels, and AJ Styles can).
Edge, Benjamin, Angle, Beniot, Guerrero, Mysterio.....all these guys are better than HHH IMO.

the reason i think this weeks was a bit below par was since batista made it clear he was going after hhh's title very little has happened between them to add more fuel to the fire

so basically the reason he was repeating was that was all he could do as nothing has happened

if you get what im tryin to say

You know what.....I totally understood that.

The WWE has booked thie Batista/HHH feud in a way that its basically stagnant at this point. Batista turned on Evolution, HHH sends the entire roster after Batista to no avail, Triple H looks stunned, and JR screams like he's beating a government mule. We haven't got any of the usual "face gets laid out" segments. They haven't played up any of the intrigue as to where Flair's loyalties where like with Orton.

So Trips got 20 minutes to say the exact same thing he's been saying for weeks. Seriously, after 20 minutes there needed to be a bigger pay-off than, "I'm putting the animal down!!!"

Maybe if he'd told us that Dave had killed a woman in college, or that Ric was going to marry Batista's gay father...now that's a feud.

Its actually smart (and kinda shocking) that they haven't laid Batista out yet. The way he needs to be booked, he cant be selling, especially in a beat down by the guy he's challenging and a 50 year old man.

I think they really hurt the program with Batista's promo a couple of weeks ago where he couldn't come up with any logical reason to go after Hunter. There was no meat to the promo, it was just 'I want to win the title'.

The thing they have going for them is that they did such a great job teasing the Batista turn that fans were going to be into it no matter what they did.

But I haven't found any of the TV since Batista did the contract signing has made me want to see the match any more than I did before.

Just about every other match on the card has been built up much better in the sense that each week has escalated the fued to the point that you want to see the match more and more. I just cant say that for HHH-Batista, but like I said, it was built up so well before it probably doesn't matter.

i personally feel he is in the top three for promos (with the rock and Y2J)

and i just hope that batista doesnt beat H and he goes up against someone more equal liek chris masters or sum boring powerhouse like him.

Okay, I decided I was gonna make it brief, then changed my mind.

Here's part 2:

The Batista-Triple H feud is supported only by its lead up, and at this point, they'd be hard pressed to piss it all away. People still dug even the shittiest Batista promo, because it's the payoff. The WWE really built up his turn right, and now he's mad over.

Too bad they're going to waste that at this rate, because the novely boost he gets for this won't last once people get used to it. While he was getting some good pops even as a heel, there's only so long this can coast. Luckily for the WWE, it'll probably be right through Wrestlemania, after which it's okay if they bury him.

I also agree that the other matches have been built up better. It's a shame, because I end up with a feeling of Deja Vu, like I saw this last week. Even Pick Your Poison, wehich sounded good to me, really did NOTHING to "elevate" or "escalate" the feud. I appreciate the power of the "unstoppable" force, but it feels wasted within this setup.

It should be easy to book Batista.

Go back to the library, find the old tapes of Goldberg in 98 and do that!

Batista is not great on the mic or in the ring, he might be decent if given a chance to work on those things, but by then people will see through him, and whatever mystique he has will be gone.

Therefore you ahve to book him to kill everyone. The problem is they wont do that. We've already seen him selling for Kane, Snitcky and even Ric freakin Flair. I love Flair, but there's no way a 50 year old man should get offence on an "animal".

Thats why I fear they will blow it big time with Batista. I think he'll work long matches with Hunter at Mania and likely Backlash as well. And they will have him try to cut promos in the ring. These things will expose him and he'll sputter, and Hunter will get the belt back.

Hopefully I'm wrong, but I said the exact same thing about Benoit last year at this time, and well, I ended being dead on. So.

So.
Agreed. It should be simple, but the WWE has massive ego problems, so even the few professionals who will lay down are meaningless compared to Ric Flair actually hurting the animal.

I can let them get away with Kane, who's supposed to be a monster, and to some extent, even Snitsky, but the lack of capacity to actually put people over is freaking pathetic.

Let's face it. The night after Mania won't be about celebrating Batista's title win, it will be about Hunter's rematch.

To be honest, I'm hoping the WWE drops the ball on this. I know that outside of his look, Batista has no qualities that merit putting him in the main event at the biggest PPV of the year.

He's no great shakes in the ring or on the mic, and if he didn't look like some juiced up freak and if there wasn't the semi-novelty of him turning on Evolution, no one would care. He's exactly the same guy that fans ragged on months ago for having to be carried in tag matches by Ric Flair.

So I'm actually hoping that the WWE hurries up and kills his heat on the off-chance that I'll enjoy the next performer who gets a run in the main event.

Of course, since whoever gets elevated next will just be another body flung on the pit of spikes that is HHH's ego.....meh.

Fuck, I need to start watching Smackdown.

You know, the WWE's "If we tone down the good wrestlers, our main event won't look so weak" is working to an extent.

Batista's not great in the ring, but he's a solid worker capable of making his moves look SICK. I'm not saying he's the next Hall of Famer, or he could make Bret Hart look like a sloppy worker, but he can be enjoyable.

Granted, you could stick any other Hoss with a decent amount of skill in the same position,. and he'd likely go over interchangably. And if I could see NOVA in the WWE, or cruiserweights that actually FLY, I'd probably be going "Dave Who?"
