Fignuts pretend you are trying to sell this game to me. Tell me some cool features and stuff it has that makes it different from the other wrestling games. Keep in mind, I've never played a Fire Pro G before.

Eh, I'm not Fig, but I'll start.

Huge Roster, tons of CAW slots for creating wrestlers and managers. Some wrestlers do need to have their move set edited, and you have to use a CAW slot for that, but there are 500 of them, so not a big deal.

Create ring/fed/"factions", referees, titles.

The Canadian Destroyer is in, and looks slick.

Octagon style UFC matches, and from what I hear, striking only matches.

Death matches (Including barbwire ropes, exploding rings, florescent bulbs, etc.)

The ability to do anywhere from 1 on 1 to 4 on 4 in almost all match types. Furthermore, you can set it to elimination for Survivor Series esque matches, and can do handicap matches in any increment.

There's also tournaments, leagues, team battles, and Battle Royals (Can be set to over the top, pin and submission only, endless (defeated people don't leave) and timed, where you can pic at what times people enter. Unfortunately, it's still only 8 people per match, so no Rumble type match.

In depth CAW, including durability of specific body parts, move paramaters (ala, striking, supex, submission, stretch, flying, etc... There's 12 each on offense and defense) Also, exstensive logic editing. Also, if you have one (which I don't, but I'm going to buy one) you can use one of those programs to download saves, and people make huge edit packs. For example, someone is working on an Edit pack of the Raw roster.. He's gotten a few done... Here's what they look like...

Then there's Criticals, which are great. Basically, if I recall, there are 5 critical categories that a wrestler can have. It's either Finisher only, submission, technical, suplex, and strike. Basically, once that's assigned, those moves can critical. They aren't totally "random" per say, as someone actually tried to right an explanation of how they happen, but they happen at random times... IE, you can start a match against a shoot fight, get caught with a hard right hook, and be out. Also, if you're someone who has a technical counter, and you counter a powerbomb into a sunset flip, it may critical them, giving you the win.

Some people complain about the sprite based graphics.. I don't mind them, makes CAW easier, and allows for more people. The only other major problem, besides the learning curve, is striking... Striking takes awhile to get down because you have to be a specific distance from them, and on the same level. So if you're to close, you'll miss, etc.

If you're a person who likes simming matches ( I Don't, but some do) FP is pretty damn good for that to.

Also, the ability to interupt moves is nice. It's not as annoying as DOR 2 where you can get knocked down by someone else doing a move to someone else either. You can basically stop moves with strikes and flying attacks and running attacks and holds... GOod shit.... Back in firepro D, a friend of mine and I were playing it, I was a CAW of Rhyno, he was someone, and we were fighting Goldberg and someone... GOldie had him up for the jackhammer, and I gored Goldie mid move, criticaling him...Good shit.

If you haven't already, check out some of the videos on the Firepro website. If ya have questions, feel free to ask, but I don't know what else to cover..

WAIT!

You can make a bear.

Not a crappy looking Bear either, but a real bear, with fur and shit! Come on, you know you want to beat up someone using a bear.

Thanks a lot bro. Yea, I'm a person that doesn't really care about graphics. I've said to people lots of times, I'd rather have more people in a ring, then have less with better graphics. And this game sports a 4 vs 4 all at once, so that's awesome.

Couple more ?'s

Is there a career mode?

Is there run-ins? Like does your faction help you out?

Is there weapons?

That's pretty cool you can get Angle, Cena and HHH in the game.

I think they took career mode out of this one.... In retrospect, that's not really a "bad" thing though. Unless you can read Japanese, a career mode is pretty bad as it's mainly still pictures and and writing between matches.

No run-ins unfortunately... The "faction" thing is new, and from what I can tell, it's mainly used to categorize people inside the feds.

There are weapons. I know from Z there was a chair, table piece, sledge hammer, kendo stick, and I think one or two other things... I think there was like a two by four, and a bat wrapped in barbwire.. I THINK. Weapons are different then most games... There are three different strieks ( a jab, a side type swing, and an overhead type swing.) Also, they'll stay on the ground. So while it doesn't do much damage, if you can get like 5 chairs (Weapon limit for onscreen is 7 I believe) You can do moves onto them, even though it doesn't really hurt more, it looks nice.

Yeah, within reason, you can pretty much create anyone. Especially now since you can sort of edit hair, where as before the face models all had set hair as well. The only thing that's difficult to recreate in FP games are tatoos, but hey, no one is perfect.

What else, what else.... I want mine to come today damn it....

Grappling is TOTALLY timing based. You walk into each other to grapple, and you need to hit the buttons at the right time. Button pounding will just screw you over. Grapple attack wise, You have square, then squar with up, down, left/right. Same thing with X and O. Then you also have a square and X move. So that's about 13 front grapples.. If it's the same, then there's only 5 from behind.

Move list is a tad odd. For example, there's no verta-breaker, but there is a top rope hurricuranna to the outside... So yeah, really assorted.

Oh, there's also a fork and a sytch for weapons, but they only show up in actual grapple holds... IE, there's a ground move where you can pull out a sycth and rub it across their face...

And besides Poison mist, there's also a fire spit

Just another thing to add to the grappling aspect...

You have to move from weak moves to medium, then to strong. It's not like smackdown, where you can just powerbomb and piledrive your opponent from the outset. You have to actually wear down your opponent first. That's not to say that once in a while you can't pull off a strong move from the start. But 90% of the time it will get reversed. It's this method which gives the matches a much more realistic pace, and makes firepro closer to an actual wrestling sim than anything else out there, with the exception possibly being KOC. Made by the same company, I might add.

However, firepro's biggest draw over the years hasn't been it's stellar gameplay, or deep roster. It's been the Edit mode. It's called edit and not caw, because you can edit or create just about everything in the game, from rings, belts, promotions, factions, wrestlers, managers, and even referees. The caw itself is easily the greatest ever created. Now you're probably thinking how a 2d sprite wrestling game can possibly have the best CAW. Well visually all the other wrestling games are ahead of firepro's caw.(although you can recognize instantly who a caw is in firepro. look at that Angle above.) It's in every other category that Firepro's caw is hundreds of miles ahead of everyone else. First off, the moveset is larger than any american game. By almost 1,000 moves at that. There is no vertebraker, but that's because no one to my knowledge does the move in japan. Besides, there are moves in here that make the Vertebraker about as exciting as an armdrag.

Beyond the incredible moveset, you have the profile page where you adjust the strength of each individual bodypart. For example, for Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit, you would set Neck Strength to low. This little detail adds a whole new level of strategy to the game. Targeting any body part for a submission isn't a good idea. You had better know what your opponents strengths are before going for a sub victory. You can also assign special skills to your wrestler. Such as "guts" which makes your fighter almost impossible to beat by submission, or "one-hit finisher" which is self explanitory.

The other area which puts firepro far and beyond any other game is the CPU logic. While most games just let you choose what style of wrestling the CPU will act around, fire pro lets you determine how often your wrestler will use every move in his/her arsenal via pie graphs. This lets you duplicate EXACTLY what your wrestler would do in ANY situation.

Finally the other great thing about fire pro is the internet community of fans. Go on a Halo message board. Or even Smackdown. Most people there would as soon spit on you as help you. But the FPC is far more helpful and more than willing to lend a hand. Consider this: Upon getting the game, several people decided to throw up translations and answer questions rather than spend a few days playing the game they had waited over 6 months for.

And as far as the language barrier goes, it's really not an issue. There are already translation guides up as I said, and after a while you won't even need them, as navigating the menu's will be second nature.

True, but for those of us who don't have a modded PS2, it's a decent (though lacking in terms of options) substitute.

You should get yourself a Gameboy Advance. The older models are pretty cheap, now, and it's worth it just for the Fire Pro games alone.

I just started playing FPWA (1) for GBA yesterday. I've had it since 2001, but fucking hated it because of the system. I didn't know how to counter, attack correctly, etc. Once I read a short FAQ... Holy living shit. Best wrestling game I have ever played. EVER. EEEEVER. So fucking deep.

That said, should I go out and get the second one for GBA? Is it worth the upgrade?

Also, would it be worth my while to get FPWD or this one imported? Neither my Dreamcast or PS2 are modded, but I'd be willing to pay for a boot disk.

Edit: ALSO, how hard is it to do it in Japanese? I suppose there aren't any English translations in-game.

I haven't had an issue with the Japanese at all. Granted, I know some. However, they have translations out the ass on gamefaq and fireproclub. As far as buying the new one for PS2, I'd say go for it, but I don't know what your money situation is. If you have some extra cash, I'd recommend it. If you thinkg FPWA was the greatest wrestling game ever, than yeah, I'd say go for it. I won't say it's better than the new Smackdown, but I wll say it's totally different.

Bumping this shit.

There is now an English Translation patch which translates almost all the menus in the game. Only Match make mode is untranslated yet. And I'm sure he'll release an updated patch that covers that too. You can find it on Fire Pro R forums at Fireproclub.com

Very easy to install as all you need are the patch, ppf-o-matic, and dvddecrypter. The last 2 are free software programs that you can find on google, and are less than 1 megabite.

You will also need a blank dvd-r disk.

Seems like a lot, but the whole process takes about 15 minutes, and you're ready to play firepro R in English.

Mods are fairly chear and easy. I had a Japanese PS2, but I recently modded my American. I bought the fliptop and Swap Magic disc for like under 50 bucks on ebay. Installing it was easy as hell (Unscrew a some screws, take off the otp, unscrew two more screws, swap the lid, rescrew everything.

Also just recently used the English patch. Badass. Although it doesn't have the main menu translated in mine for some reason that's no big deal IMO... Apparently in the next patch he's going to rename all the moves..

Yeesh.

I KNOW

I was playing on my roomates big screen TV, and then I moved and played on a smaller one, and the timing changed comletely.

My advice would be to use your ears instead of your eyes. There is a sound like the wrestlers feet hitting the mat as they lock up. Immediatly AFTER the sound, press the button. Ideally, you want to time it so the button is pressed just as the sound ends, but thats if you're relearning higher levels. Start on 1, and work your way back up.
