Vince McMahon is trying to create an ECW that has a blend of it's old style and is still marketable to five year olds who have mommy and daddy's wallet.
Break down ECW, Big Show is easily (IMO) the most credible World Champion of any promotion...Sabu is getting over nicely with both old ECW fans and the new ones Vince is trying to bring in...Paul Heyman's gimmick is actually quite interesting and I want to see where they take it...while it's true most of the ECW alumni arn't getting over really well, do me a favor and think through who they have, none of them were the big ECW names. The big names could see the writing on the wall before the company even started that it wasn't going to be anything compared to the old ECW, so they didn't sign up.
Do me a favor, don't try and compare new ECW to old ECW because they are not the same. Paul Heyman giving input while trying to keep his big pay check job is not ever going to be the same as Paul Heyman living and dying by the sword. A Vince McMahon & Stock Holders owned company will never be the same as one man who has a vision and is will to put it all on the table for a single roll of the dice. It can't be the same, it never could be the same, and it was never designed to be the same.
And before any of you start in with "Then why call it ECW" bullshit, Vince calls it ECW because the five year old kids who I mentioned earlier have no real idea what the original ECW was, Vince McMahon just nerf'd the idea of Hardcore and Extreme wrestling for the next generation, which ironically may have extended the life span of his future stars. Also with all the momentum of Rise and Fall along with ONS he had enough initial interest to restart it and get people to tune in to at least see what it is. And while we are on the topic, Vince McMahon & Co. are pulling in on average twice what Paul Heyman was able to pull in. Unsatisfying to our taste? Yes. But money in the bank for McMahon, and since he is a business man...well...you know the rest.
And for the record I sit not only McMahon's desk, but under the desk of Dixie Carter and anyone else who is in charge. I am sorry, but I have a long standing history of standing behind the person who signs the checks. If it's their company, let them run it however they wish. At the end of the day it's still THEIR product and THEIR vision which is more important then any of our voices. Don't like, go invest a few million or your own dollars to make a company...

And again, this is all well and good, until Vince does something YOU don't agree with.
By the way, they seriously could've kept a lot more original ECW elements than they have. It still makes no fucking sense to call it ECW. It would make every bit as much sense to have Undertaker wrestling Shawn Michaels on "WCW Thunder" for the WCW Title every week, while we see random old WCW midcarders and even a main eventer or two get squashed by random developmental prospects every week.
