Yeah, I'm from Canada and you feel the same way about soccer as I do hockey.

I love football and basketball, baseball is terrible.

The fact you can watch over 90 minutes of soccer and not see goal, or even a scoring chance sometimes is pretty boring.

Europes sports are so god awful boring to watch.

This reminds me of the story that Wales was left off some sort of map entirely.

Not as in there was no border drawn or it was named as England...it was completey GONE! Like someone had cut it off and binned it! lol

Gloryhunting? No I'm not a Cardiff fan. I'm just happy to see Welsh teams do well. Good season for Welsh sport with Wales the European champions of rugby, Swansea winning League 1 and Cardiff in the FA Cup final. Don't expect me to be at the parade in Cardiff on Sunday if they win though. I probably won't even watch the game tomorrow.

Someone seems a tad bitter that an English competition has a Welsh team in its final! Don't worry, it's okay.

Football ain't just about goals(in reply to ic), there's actually tactics/skill/loads of other thigns involved, i guess that's what seperates it from american/canadian sports?()

Anyhow, i know for a fact you're wrong that nobody up there watches our football. I know plenty of canadians that do/are obsessed by it.

Bitter? Nah, i even had a bet on cardiff to win, only a small bet mind you..im not fussed either way, just making sure you ain't gonna be one of those up their own arse welsh people singing about how great cardiff are when you don't follow the sport.

Montreal and Toronto, yes. That's because of the high concentration of immigrants mostly. Even than it still pales in comparison to other sports like Hockey, Basketball, Baseball, the NFL and even Canadian football, which for the life of me I can't figure out why anyone watches. Outside of Montreal and Toronto, maybe Vancouver nobody really cares about or watches soccer. It's popularity is growing here though, but it's not like soccer is going to sweep the nation anytime soon.

Still, my canadian friend loves it more than any other sport atleast.Btw, not every game is a boring 0-0, infact if you had seen the games ive seen this week, you would understand it a bit more. So much drama.

On the original topic of the thread: I remember having this sort of argument 2 or 3 years ago. England, Wales and Scotland are all separate to each other, but all are part of the island of Great Britain. And the actual country is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Island, which all of them are under. And yeah, it's all been said roughly in the thread but I thought I'd restate the factual stuff because I can.

On sports: soccer is pretty boring... but cricket... that's a sport to talk about. 2nd most popular in the world!

How anyone can dislike 'soccer' is beyond me.

Go to a match and experience the atmosphere and whether you like the sport itself or not you'll want to go again. Not soppy sports chanting 'GO TEAM GO' either, you'll hear passionate songs and realise what it's really like to SUPPORT a club.

But that is the same with every sport... there are passionate fans of everything, and so by that logic you cannot understand how people dislike any sport at all then. If you disagree with 'that is the same with every sport' then you are no different to the people you were responding to in the first place.

People can't like everything; we weren't meant to. We all prefer some things over other things.

Just cause you don't like it doesn't mean it sucks though. If you say 'i don't like the sport' then fine, but don't go telling me it sucks when you clearly dunno what you're on about.

From what i can tell, americans like fast paced non stop goal action sports, our football requires for you to have a bit more of an attention span i guess.

I know. I obviously realise that people may dislike 'soccer'. Totally understandable.

There is no way on earth any other sport has fans as passionate as 'soccer fans' you may think you support your club passionately but here in the U.K and in some European clubs your football club is like your religion, it becomes a huge part of you and the pride you have for it can not be compared. Thousands upon thousands follow third-tier teams round the country spending thousands and thousands a year and singing their heart out in the freezing rain.

Baseball, cricket, basketball, NFL, hockey, whatever, can not be compared. The games itself are probably just as appealing, but the atmosphere and passion is NOWHERE near the same.

I understand I may be coming across as ignorant and what-not, but seriously, go to a 'soccer' match in the U.K and experience the atmosphere and you'd know why I'm coming across like this. Anyone else who goes to football in the U.K or Germany or something should agree.

Although 'soccer' in the U.S or Australia wherever you're from is probably shit to go see because the only atmosphere is probably men trying to sell hot-dogs.

There's probably something that's just the same for Americans and Australians. I'm not going to believe that it's exclusive to football.

I know. I obviously realise that people may dislike 'soccer'. Totally understandable.

Actually you said you didn't understand how people could dislike soccer which is why I posted in the first place.

Anyway you're only saying

There is no way on earth any other sport has fans as passionate as 'soccer fans' you may think you support your club passionately but here in the U.K and in some European clubs your football club is like your religion, it becomes a huge part of you and the pride you have for it can not be compared. Thousands upon thousands follow third-tier teams round the country spending thousands and thousands a year and singing their heart out in the freezing rain.

because you live in England and haven't experienced life in other countries. I don't know about the NFL but the Australian Football League IS like a religion here in Aus, and cricket IS like a religion in India.

Saying 'I don't see how anyone can dislike soccer' is stupid. Just because you think it's so great doesn't mean everyone else does. That's probably the stupidest/most ignorant thing to say ever. I could say the same about the NFL and you'd probably go off on one.

Granted I'm not really a fan of the sport (soccer), but I still respect it a hell of a lot. I respect any sport, regardless of whether I like them or not. Anything that involves a certain specified level of athleticism wins my respect any day.

Me saying 'I don't understand how people dislike soccer' was clearly tongue-in-cheek, of course I realise not everyone will like it.

Funny you should say that, seeing how I lived in Spain for 3 and a half years, have been all around the U.S, had a brief stay in Australia too. I don't see cricket fans and Australian Football League fans always in the news and stuff. Would many of their fans travel all around the country/continent to watch their team play, singing almost non-stop etc. And whilst I'm not saying hooliganism is a good thing, surely that demonstrates the passion that 'soccer' fans have. People often think football hooligans are mindless thugs, don't get me wrong, some are. But the majority are not at all, they fight other teams hooligans for the pride and passion of supporting their club etc, like I said, it may be pretty stupid but it does demonstrate passion.

I don't know what the Australian Football League is like, no. And maybe I am being small-minded thinking that 100% no way does any other sport have fans as passionate as 'soccer' fans. But I really can't see how it's possible in all reality, but like Mackem said I think it's a cultural difference between British/American/Australians.

And every team's fans have their ways of expressing support. It's just a matter of different cultures, doesn't necessarily mean one is more passionate than the other, or whatever. Ever watched the Seahawks at Quest Field, or the Redskins at FedEx? Those always seem like loud games to me.

Dude.

I said 'How anyone can dislike soccer is beyond me', like I said, was totally tongue in cheek, relax.

I'm not getting at any other sports at all, all I've been saying is that I can't see how any other sport could have as passionate fans as football fans (in the UK in particular).

Different ways of showing passion, yeah. I'm sure they are passionate supporters, but I honestly don't think that the passion is on the same level as with football.

For example, third-division teams in England will still get attendances of like 8,000 and more. Leeds - 28,000 av.attendance or something. Taking like 4,000 to places like Plymouth as well.

Do you really think the 'Seahawks' would still get more than 3/4 of their fans attending every game if they were relegated 2 tiers down?

Would they take several thousand fans to places that are like 7 hours drive away?

Another example with my team, Chelsea, you get fans who haven't missed games for 30 years, games in the US, all over Europe etc, even when there's no chance of progressing/winning etc people still attend. In the 1980's Chelse fans were banned from attending an away match at Wolverhampton, yet 7,000 Chelsea still turned up. We used to take 12,000 fans to places like Sunderland and we were absolutely SHIT.

I'm not doubting any other sport, and I'm sure they're passionate in their own way, but I really do not believe there is passion like that in any other sport.

You can't really compare the English leagues with the NFL. There is no relegation, the stadium has a 67,000 capacity in Seattle. Their closest divison game is San Francisco. Just look on a map of the USA to see how far that is. But I'm sure if there was a team within 7 hours drive away, many many fans would make the trip. Americans drive a lot, I'm sure 7 hours isn't half as much to them as it seems to us.

The point is, there's only 8 away games in a season in the NFL, and most of them are hundreds or even thousands of miles away. I guarantee to you that if all 32 NFL teams were located within an area the size of the UK, the away support would be unprecedented.

WWE's research regarding the UK is pretty lazy. When Drew Galloway debuted on Smackdown! he was said to be hailed from the town of Ayr which is in the Highlands of Scotland.

If they done proper research they will have found out that Ayr is a seaside town and is nearly a 3 hour drive away from the Highlands.

So to see they cocked this thing up with Cardiff being in England doesn't surprise me.
