Granted, but you need different ways to beat them the second time round that you did before, just gives it some longevity

Joystiq Review: Punch-Out!! (Wii)
by David Hinkle { May 18th 2009 at 11:32AM } ![]() [Note: If you don't feel like battling a whole bunch of text, feel free to enjoy our video synopsis of Punch-Out!! by using your mouse bicep to punch-click this handy link.] Gallery: Punch-Out!! The big draws for Punch-Out!! on the Wii are motion-based controls and Balance Board support -- and they're a lot more responsive and fun to use than you would find in Wii Sports' boxing mode. With the analog stick controlling your character's movement, it's fairly easy to dodge and take out your opponents. It works, but the game really shines when you're playing with the classic controls. Punch-Out!! fans will feel right at home once they switch to classic mode. Controls are the same they've been for more than a decade, so you'll be able to get right into the action and enjoy the game. Another reason to choose classic over the Wiimote-and-Nunchuk method is speed, as you'll be a lot faster both dodging and delivering punches. It's a drawback of the motion-based controls, because you can easily push a button faster than it takes you to fake-throw a punch. Also, the motion-based controls may be surprisingly responsive, but that doesn't mean there won't be instances where you accidentally throw a punch or deliver a strike too late, which can be a big problem in the latter parts of the game. Another issue I had with the game was a sharp increase in difficulty almost out of nowhere. The game is divided into 3 different circuits, and veterans of Punch-Out!! will likely experience what I did: eight boxers who are pushovers and then the last circuit of five, which really jacks up the difficulty. It can be frustrating and tough transition, but it's a lot better than the alternative of the entire game being incredibly easy to conquer. ![]() But even after you plow through the circuits there's more to do, as Nintendo has finally figured out how to add replay value to a Punch-Out!! game. There's a Head-to-Head mode, as well as Exhibition matches with scenarios to complete (such as defeat Super Macho Man in Round 1, and TKO or KO Great Tiger using only right jabs). The Head-to-Head mode is fairly fun, and should replace Wii Sports boxing for most folks, but it would have been nice to be able to select different boxers aside from Little Mac. Nintendo has done a good job of throwing a new coat of paint on Punch-Out!!, but has also taken special care to make sure the core of the experience has not been changed for Wii. This means that fans of the franchise won't feel alienated, and newcomers can easily pick up the Wiimote (and Nunchuk, if that's how they want to roll) and get into the action. |

Pretty good. Old fighters have different strategies so that's interesting. I like how all the foreign guys speak their own language so you kinda have no idea what they're saying. Also there is a ridiculously unnecessary advertisement for Club Nintendo in this game.

Punch Out on the WII
Sorry if this thread was already started, but I couldn't find it.
OH MY FUCKING GOD!! THIS IS THE SINGLE REASON TO OWN A WII!!!! THIS GAME IS MEGA TITS!!! It's my childhood memories put in a new shiny package. It's a puppy that doesn't shit all over the place. It's calling your grandma who you kinda don't want to talk to on her b-day because you're kinda high and getting her voice mail!!!! Seriously, I love this game! Hate the Great Tiger, and Bear Hugger was a pain in the ass. Quote:

By couldn't find, do you mean too lazy to scroll two-thirds the way down the first page?
And yes, this game is pretty damn fun. |

This game is badass. All the places over here are sold out, so I rented it. Seriously, oh my god, this is THE reason to own a Wii.

It is good. The motion controls are fun, but you will probably have to switch to NES style once you reach Soda Popinski, cause it reacts a lot better. The last couple of dudes are really hard and kinda made me stop playing for a little cause it was just frustrating, kinda like Mega Man 9.
Multiplayer is weird, I guess it's just better if you have two people flailing their arms all over the place than actually trying to play. |

Great game so far. I'm by Great Tiger. Multi-player is fun, but wish you could use more than just Mac for that.
Also, if you're gonna play it, use the Wii remote, NES-style. |

Funky Fly...Tard insurance.
Got this today and played it with the balance board and wiimote/nunchuck combo. Freaking awesome, though there's a small learning curve. I figured dodging wouldn't just last a split second. Getting the timing down aside, it's fairly fun. |

This game is really fun. I'm up to Great Tiger. My only complaint is that the music isn't all that loud. Maybe there's an option to turn it up, or maybe it's because it's a burnt game. I DUNNO. Pretty mad I can barely hear the "updated tunes".

This game is awesome. For some reason I got my ass handed to me by Glass Joe while defending the title. I just really sucked today.
I kicked Bald Bull's ass the first time I fought him. I haven't tried the motion controls yet. Once I finish defending my title I'm going to start a new file for motion controls only. I can't wait to make it to the secret boxer. |

So you don't need the balance board, right?

No its not required or needed to play.
I believe the control sets are wiimote on its side , wiimote + nunchuck , classic controller , or wiimote + nunchuck + balance board. The only one I can't remember is if it allows Gamecube controller as an option |

My wife just got to Don Flamenco. I don't know if I'm more impressed by the game for keeping her interested, or by her for spending a bunch of time in practice mode to figure it out.

I'm stuck on defending my title against King Hippo. I can beat him by decision at this point, but that's not fun. I want to knock that asshole out. I didn't need any help on the first two Punch Outs and I'll be doing the same for this one. I love figuring out how to beat everyone on my own.
I'm loving Punch Out Wii. I knew I'd like it, but I didn't expect it to be this good. I really like how you fight everyone over again, but they're a lot more difficult. It's almost like there are 26 fighters instead of 13 SPOILER: show Spoiler that spoils the previous spoiler SPOILER: show |
