Yeah, Orton has got quite the Austin vibe going for him right now. Back when in 2004, it was closer to a Rock sort of vibe -- and Orton just isn't that charismatic or talented on the mic. A face turn would work so much better today than it would yesterday.
The fans also know Orton, and they're used to him being on the top. If Orton turned face to feud with Ted DiBiase, then they could really buy into the event, because Orton would be the one they were invested in. Sure, they can also count on Orton's heel status to make people pay to see him get his ass kicked -- but will they pay for DiBiase to do it right now? He's got to turn face, establish himself further, and it's just a lot to accomplish.
DiBiase also seems like a natural heel. Keep in mind that his genes lend him to being a traditional heel. They shouldn't limit him, but there's just something weird about Ted turning face so quickly while his father was a heel for so much of his WWE career. They could even use the movie to enhance his heel status. "I'm a movie star, Randy. You're just a guy that I'm going to beat."
