Realignment is being tossed around in the labor talks. Bouncing one NL team to the AL side making it an even 15 teams on both sides. They're also talking about killing off divisions all together so the top 5 teams from both sides go to the playoffs.
Mind you this is just chatter and you can read it all on espn.com right now. But it makes for some interesting discussion between baseball junkies such as us. Don't ya think? |

The biggest issue is the loss of tradition of the 2 leagues being seen as separate and the brief inter-league games no longer being special. Never mind, just finished reading the article and MLB would still have the leagues act as being seperate and just push more inter-league games instead of a true combination of the leagues and balanced schedule. |

I can see adding the Astros to the AL West and allowing interleague play to run all year, one series at a time. Interleague has overstayed its welcome anyway, so only having one series going at a time is a good thing.
There is zero chance they eliminate divisions though. That would mean you play the teams in your league an equal amount of times. aka a bunch of rivalry games are lost. No way in hell will MLB, FOX, ESPN, etc. allow there to be less Yanks/Sox games. |

A little late but Rizzo made a lovely debut, hitting the shit out of a Livan Hernandez piss ball in his second at bat. Kid's got a gorgeous swing, and his finish is real pretty. Hope he continues to develop.

The only way the Pirates will ever contend under current ownership is if there are plane crashes involving the Brewers, Reds, Cardinals, Astros, and Cubs all in the same season.

Their top catching prospect, Tony Sanchez, is also getting closer and could be a very good offensive catcher, especially in tha ball park. I think if they can get an ace (Cole) and a real #2 starter, they could compete in that division. It is not that strong. |

Always loved the idea of the Expos moving to the AL West (Las Vegas) and moving Pittsburgh to the NL East.

The idea is that the Rangers have no natural rivals as it is, they don't even play in the same time zone as the rest of the division. The Rangers and Stros would almost certainly become major rivals.

Cool thing I noticed while at PNC Park. Joel Hanrahan has a WWE-esque titan tron video when he enters.

Never realized until looking at that picture how alone Seattle is compared to the others teams. There are barely any teams in the actual western part of the country but at least they are all bunched up except for Seattle all the way up by itself.
I'd keep Seattle and toss out one of the Florida teams because the state barely supports their teams (and pro sports outside of the Dolphins in NFL). |

Not to mention, is the NL Central really THAT strong? Outside of the Cardinals, there's really no run away team. The Reds finished under .500 against 5 playoff/potential playoff teams last year. That suggests they played in a weak division and steamrolled lesser teams, but couldn't match up well against good ball clubs. I'm not saying the Pirates are a lock, but it's not hopeless for them. If Cole and Tallion show up and pitch even mediocre (4.00 ERA or under) and their bullpen holds up, they have an outside shot at that division over the next 5 years. |

In other news, Padres took the first game of their road trip against Colorado last night. Love the team so much when they're not at home, which is sad.

Os pitching coach resigned today with no advance notice due to personal reasons.
ugh..the former pitching coach Rick Kranitz moved on to Milwaukee and has done wonders for their staff. Mark Connor was supposed to be the guy that would do the same for the Os and aside from a shaky bullpen he had done well. |

MLB will never allow both NY teams, both CHI teams, both LA area, or both Bay area teams to be in the same league, let alone the same division.
But I do find it at least a little bit humorous that this scenario had the Mariners moving to the same town that the Sonics did. |

It would be pointless for me to continue watching baseball if the Mets got put into a division with the Yankees, Red Sox, AND Phillies.

The Orioles have lost 14 straight in Toronto and are doing everything possible to ensure #15. I thought for sure the Os were catching Toronto at the right time since they lost 5 in a row and were trounced by Boston over the weekend but I guess not

Padres are tied with the Rockies 1 to 1 in the bottom of the 5th as we speak. Winner takes the series.

Makes sense. Reyes is going to get anywhere from $15-$20mil a year, and he's hitting free agency in his prime. No need for the Sox to go after him. But, GASP, what if the Yankees were to get him?
Is that even a possibility? It would almost guarentee Jeter moving out of SS for good, which would help his health over the long term duration of his contract. Playing shortstop in your mid to late 30s everyday is not a plus in the health department. Other teams could be the Angels, who failed miserably at signing Beltre, Soriano and Crawford this past offseason. They need to inject some more life into that offense. Reyes is perfect. Giants are a big possibility. They lack the dynamic player that Reyes is, and I don't know if they have anyting remotely close to an above average, everday shortstop who's glove and bat plays. He'd be an immense fit in that ballpark, and on that team. Giants have the money to do it, as well. I really don't think there are too many places for Reyes to go, honestly. There's only a handful of teams who could dole out the cash he's going to command on the open market. I don't think Sandy Alderson signs him, and collects draft picks instead. So, IMO, the Mets are out in terms of keeping him. |
