Huge win by the Bruins since they needed at least 1 win and a Rangers loss in the last 3 games to lock a spot. Now its just 1 point in next 2 games or a Rangers loss to clinch a playoff spot.

Anyone thinking how hockey is becoming like wrestling? In that in a few short years there will be no one left that we grew up watching and refuse to believe anyone can take their place? Like Roy, Hasek, Gretzky, Lemieux to Hockey and The Rock, Austin, HBK and Flair to wrestling they were the best at what they did. There are highly talented players, Ovy, Malkin, Getzlaf, Luongo, Miller, Mason Crosby (yep I said Crosby) but I dare any of you to suggest they are even close to the legends I listed above. Makes me sad, I do like a lot of new players but its depressing watching the old guys go.

You can't really call them "even close" to those guys 5 years into their careers. In 10, 15 years maybe. All of those guys are on the right track to be equal to or better than those legends tho.

And yes it does suck all the players I watched throughout the 90s and 00's are retiring. Except for Chelios, he'll be playing until the day he dies.

Bruins clinch a playoff spot and depending on what occurs later with Montreal, they can either be a 6th seed or a 7th seed.

Not sure on what happens if Philly-NY Rangers tie but Montreal can be anywhere between a 6th to 9th seed.

If Rangers beat Philly, then Rangers in playoffs and Flyers take 9th place and vise-versa if Flyers win last game.

It sucks that a lot of the guys from the 90s are retiring but I will always watch hockey. Hockey can never get boring like wrestling can

If regular season is any indication, looks like best bet for upset might be #7 Flyers over #2 Devils (Philly 5-1 in season series).

Well at least Crosby didn't win it unanimously. Only thing Ovechkin has going for him for the Hart trophy is that he has a crazy +/- whereas Crosby is like -3 or something. And some people say that Ovechkin should win because he missed like 10 games due to suspension and would have had better numbers, but I think that hurts his case, cause being valuable to the team does not = missing games.

I really can't see anyone stopping the Caps in the East. The West is probably going to come down to the Wings(zzz) or the Hawks. I'd love to see Phoenix or LA take the west, too. Damn I hope the Yotes beat the Wings in rd 1. Just fuck off already.

I can. There's been tons of teams over the years who had an amazing regular season, win the President's Trophy and be upset in the first/second round.

Infact, I just saw something the other day, only 7 times out of the 24 years the trophy has been awarded has the winner won the cup, and only 2 teams in the last 10.

Before Assman get's his panties in a wad, I'm not saying that the Caps are a bad team, they could just fizzle out like plently of teams have done when winning the trophy.

This year might be different for a variety of reasons:
1) Last year the Caps lost to the eventual champion Penguins so they want the chance for rvenge should they meet in the 2nd round or conference finals
2) Ovie and Russia had a poor showing in the Winter Olympics compared to how good they were on paper while his main rival ends up winning the gold medal and the game winning goal.
3) Penguins and Crosby might not be as "hungry" to win the title compared to last year's playoffs and I doubt NHL really wants to have Penguins-Red Wings III for the title game.

Unlike the Sharks and their predictable playoff collapses, Capitals really don't have any issues mentally when it comes to the playoffs.

These stats are stupid. What that's saying is that in the last 24 years the best team in the league has won 30% of the time. Is that really that bad? Considering that over half of the league makes the playoffs having a 3/10 chance is pretty good. Which seed has won the most of the other 17 times? Is there any other position with more than 7 wins?
