Mets drop 2 out of the 3 to the Nationals...

10 games out of the division now, and 6.5 out of the Wild Card going into the night, probably going to lose ground to some teams there too.

They are just gonna stand pat at the trade deadline, hope the injured guys can come back and rape, and spur them to a late surge like the Rockies in 2007. I'm not optimistic though.

If nothing comes of this season, it's gonna be time to just rebuild for 2010. It's become pretty clear that this core's chance to win it all was 2006.

It was kinda amazing Chris Duncan went to the Red Sox for Julio Logo. Ever since Julio got DFA'D I was almost 100 percent positive he'd end up a Met.

I'm sure if the Mets offered anything he could have. Red Sox where paying his full salary with or without a trade, so they basically just got a body for him. Duncan isn't even gonna be on the major league roster unless a few guys down with injuries.

That sounds like Manny being Manny. Just like in Boston when he had that supposed leg (or was it hamstring) injury and all the X-rays came back negative.

I know you're a little new to this Manny game, and you're really really excited, but come on. I don't blame you, he's an exciting player, but his track record for shit like this is a mile long.
He's a tremendously strange character. He has great moments, and he has ugly ones. He's full of bullshit. He loves getting a day off when he can. I can't really condemn him for it, because I'm no different.
Still, he's full of shit and the sooner you know this the better.

Here in Boston he took time off for the reason of his grandmother dying like 5 times. He was constantly milking injuries or requesting time off. He's an amazing hitter though, so you learn to live with it.

I dunno he's only 30 and he's been real durable. And for whatever reason, he's almost always involved in the decision, win or loss. I'm almost positive he won't reach 300, but if I had to pick the guy who had the best shot, it honestly might be Buerhle.

I don't see Oswalt pitching into his 40s. Halladay and Santana didn't become full time starters until they were 25 so Buerhle has a 3 year head start on them. Sabathia's body will eventually quit on him. Zito could conceivably pitch until he's 50 so I guess he's got a decent shot, but I seriously doubt he'll come close.

There is no doubt that Buerhle is an awesome pitcher. Congrats to him. I saw that catch Wise Did . And holy shit! Wise basically single handedly helped Buerhle keep it a perfect game. Without that catch it's a 5-1 game. All though I could have done without that announcer having an orgasm and screaming "Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes".

But all in all it was an awesome game played by Buerhle and to a much lesser extent Wise.

I don't know, I'd put Halladay above Buerhle if I were a betting man. It depends where he ends up in the near future, and how long he holds up. He can stand to win a lot more games in the next 8 or so years.

Either way, I wouldn't peg either one of them to win 300 games, or anyone active for a very long time. Nobody in mid-career is on pace to do so, and with the young guys it's too early to tell.
There's also the possibility that Randy Johnson may be the last 300 game winner for a long long time, or possibly ever.

The nature of the game changes, and so does pitching. Certain milestones become increasingly more common, or are phased out to become unatainable.
I've heard legitimate arguments that the age of the 300 game winner is gone.

Randy Johnson would have reached 300 much sooner if he wasn't on shitty teams that constantly failed to give him run support. That's why I think that's such a factor here. If Halladay lands on a respectable ballclub that wins 100 games perenially, he can pick up a few more wins here and there.
Run support hasn't been a huge issue for him in Toronto, but I'm sure it's cost him some tough no decisions here and there.

I'm of the mind that the next 300 game winner is probably just starting their career, or hasn't even been born yet.

Keep in mind fellas that Jamie Moyer is 46 years young and got 255 wins under his belt, but the odds are VERY long that he'll get to 300 with 45 to go. I think Randy Johnson ain't that far behind in age, but of course he just joined the 300 club.

See I have longevity concerns about Halladay. Buerhle has been a workhorse. He's got 8 straight seasons of 200+ innings. I can see him pitching for another 12-13 seasons. I can't say the same about Doc Halladay.

I just heard that in 24 hours Halladay might be traded to the Phillies. They offered Toronto a good deal. Halladay is pitching tonight so we'll see if Halladay pitches against Tampa. If he doesn't that mean he got traded.
