Sox losing to the Royals 4-0 right now in the bottom of the sixth and Wakefield left the game in the 4th with a strained back....fuck
Wheels are starting to fall off the wagon here but I'm trying to stay positive. I just do not want to come down to the wildcard again, since it seems like both the White Sox and Tigers are a lock for the playoffs - where as in the past 3 years it has seemed like the Yanks and Red Sox where in that role. |

ROFLL Ortiz stole a base after basically stopping inbetween first and second after a struckout during a hit and run.
Red Sox got the lead now too, they better win this game. |

LOL. Cardinals bringing in Isringhausen in the 9th down 12. Especially funny when Chipper is still looking for an extra-base hit for the record.

10-1 Jays with V wells with the grand slam. Lilly looked great as usual at home, although i'm sure he's due for a shit performance.
Shawn Marcum pitching tommorow......should be quite the show |

Wang produces another quality start, shame the Sox came back.
I'm no longer convinced the wildcard will definitely come from the central |

I read that the White Sox have the hardest second half schedule in the AL, and the Yankees have the easiest. We have a pretty good shot. Detroit has a pretty rough schedule too I hear.

I think it is something like 9 of the White Sox next 13 series' is against teams above .500, including the top the AL East teams as well as the Tigers and Twins a few times.

Can someone explain why the Jays would even consider trading Vernon Wells? Even if they were a last place team, he's a foundation type guy. JP is a fool. Especially since he's allowed to spend money now, he can fill the needs the team has with free agents. Nothing against Benji Molina, but he's not necessary, so let him go, that's 5 million right there. 5 million a year will get you a 3-4 place starter, which is far more important than the role Benji can fulfill. Greg Zaun's numbers are right there in terms of Molina's, offensively. Defensively he's pretty good, Benji's better, but not like I said over the need of another quality starter.

Atlanta trading Andruw sounds mad enough to me, the Jays trading Vernon Wells would be fuckin stupid, they're not out of it by any means

Don't look now, but if the Twins somehow can wind up in the playoffs then you would have to give Justin Morneau serious consideration for MVP.
Justin Morneau: AVG: 310 (15) RBI: 77 (3) HR: 24 (6) OBP: 358 (30) SLG: 592 (8) Vernon Wells AVG: 313 (13) RBI: 72 (7) HR: 23 (9) OBP: 381 (17) SLG: 602 (6) Jim Thome AVG: 303 RBI: 80 (2) HR: 31 (2) R: OBP: 418 (6) SLG: 657 (2) David Ortiz AVG: 280 RBI: 90 (1) HR: 32 (1) OBP: 389 (11) SLG: 608 (5) Based on batting alone, Thome or Ortiz are easily the top guys in the AL. Going against them, neither of them play in the field. For Wells, he is one of the top AL batters, although not at the level of Ortiz and Thome, but he is a great defensive player as well. Morneau is right up there with Wells in terms of batting, which is impressive considering how bad he started off the year, and he is an average to above average fielder, but nothing special. It is kind of the "given" that it is between Ortiz and Thome, but really, why should it be? Neither of those teams has been overly impressive to this point. The Red Sox have an expensive offense and are barely winning their division. The White Sox came into the season with easily the top team in the league, and now they are four games off of the division leader. Right now, Morneau isn't a candidate and shouldn't be, but if the Twins make the playoffs then he definately should be considered (assuming he doesn't fall off). If the Red Sox make the playoffs, nobody will blink. They already had one of the top teams in the league, then go out and get Loretta, Lowell, Crisp, Beckett and a few more. They are expected to make the playoffs, but now it looks like they are going to stumble in. Basically the same story with the White Sox. If the Twins or Blue Jays make the playoffs, it will be overcoming tremendous odds and exceding just about all expectations. I would say a player leading a team like that with slightly lesser numbers is more deserving of the honor, especially if they are not a DH. |

I hate the MVP sometimes. See Ortiz' numbers are shit hot there's no doubt, but i dunno, is he as integral to the Sox as say Wells is to the Jays right now? Numbers aren't everything (i hate to agree with Joe Morgan)

But my point is the needs of another starter outweigh that of an offensive catcher.

chacin is on the dl. When he comes back we'll have halladay, lilly, burnett, janssen and chacin.
I'd be more in the market for relief pitching. Besides Ryan and Speier, the jays are horribly thin |

Jansenn is not ready for prime time. (You forgot to mention Towers.) Chacin is pretty good, I've read some of the back and forth debate about him in this topic. While he's not a Cy Young caliber pitcher, some people right him off as being pretty terrible. Sure his numbers are inflated this year, but he's pitched hurt all year which contributes to those numbers. Saying that, he's got injury issues. LL, do you think then that the Jays should trade Wells for pitching instead of not resigning Molina and using that $ for pitching?

Ponson is capable of pitching 9 innings, he's always had the stamina to do so. I think he's a real smart gamble to have taken. Not too sure what went on in StL. though, I thought he'd prosper there.

Ponson seems to either get a shutout or get pounded for 10 runs in a few innings

Molina has been shit (offensively) every year of his ML career sans 2005 (contract year). Really dumb signing. I would except Toronto to go after Javy Lopez this offseason. This relief pitching class is unbeliably weak.

As far as Morneau goes, Santana, Nathan, and Liriano are more valuable to the Twins IMO. |

I heard that MLB is trying to push Bonds out of baseball. That they want him to walk away. If he walks away, then fine, they don't go after him. However if he refuses, the talk is they'd suspend him should he be indicted. Wow.
