What? A playoff pitcher? So I guess because Livan posted a 3.99 ERA from 1997-2002 in the playoffs that means he's just suddenyl going to figure out how to not suck in the playoffs 2006?

Are the Mets not gonna look for some more youth for their rotation? Right now they have that Cuban kid who's still adjusting, has been real patchy in the 2 starts i saw. But yeah, Trachsel, Glavine, El Duque and Maddux? Whats their combined age like 38?

Mets have Brian Bannister and Mike Pelfrey who have both been up this year, I think Pelfrey and El Duque are fighting for a spot and Bannister still has to make rehab starts since straining his hamstring. There are a couple prospects in the minors... Phillip Humber is the highest rated I guess but I dunno if we get Maddux or someone stupid they probably wont see action for a while. We have a ton of money though so we are always gonna do something in the offseason

Anyways, sadly, I doubt the Mets are gonna get younger with their rotation.

I've heard a rumored Aaron Heilman for Gil Meche deal. Miz, your gonna have to fill me in on Meche because I really don't know anything about him. His numbers don't look ridiculously good but they are better than Maddux/Livan/El Duque's numbers...plus he's at least fairly young.

Can't help but think that if that deal went down Meche would crumble in the NY spotlight while Heilman ends up thriving in a starting role.

Meche has been good this year because he's finally striking out guys. I don't think he ever even struck out 100 before this year, he's already at like 110 with 2+ months to go. Still gives up A TON of jacks and he pitches in the best pitcher's park in the AL basically. I'm pretty sure the Heilman for Meche thing was bogus, which is good because I don't care for Heilman. Meche would be better a good NL pitchers park but you never really know when guys go to NY.

lol brewers got raped in the ass. nelson cruz is supposed to be a vlad guerrero type player and is a really highly rated prospect. i thought you were supposed to give up prospects to get big players...not to give them away.

Ouch, that trade fucking sucks. I understand that Lee was going to leave Milwaukee at some point, but not this way. What the fuck was Melvin thinking? Cordero is a nice addition to the pitching staff, but Nix and Mench?

Lee and Cruz couldn't get them a better deal?

Jesus, Liriano has only given up 75 hits in 100+ innings, kid is total dominance, up against the Tigs tonight though so we'll see, still him Verlander and John Lackey have been magical for my fantasy team

I remember a time when all it took to get Nelson Cruz was Keith Ginter Cruz still isn't THAT good though. Much better OF prospects out there. Cruz being compared to Vlad is an "lol" moment.

Mench and Nix will probably become all stars just like every other mediocre AL hitter

Apparently acquiring Carlos Lee is going to make Millwood, Loe, and Koronka learn how to pitch good. Go Rangers

I think (read:hope) they now go out and get Soriano in response. Put him in left and DH Garrett Anderson, not that Anderson even deserves that much, he's been terrible

I personally like the trade for the Brewers. Turnbow has been awful for about a month and lost his job as Brewers closer. And while Cordero lost his closer job as well to Otsuka, the change of leagues might help him. Mench doesn't always play because apparently Showalter didn't like him, but has hit for power when he does play. At this point Nix hasn't shown much but if he gets ab's we'll have to see what he does.

I think the Rangers did only ok in this deal. Yeah they got Lee, who's going to be a monster in that park, but it doesn't change the fact that even if they win the division, they're not going anywhere because they don't pitch well enough in my opinion.. Unless you believe in Kevin Millwood and Vincente Padilla in the postseason, I don't. Thoughts?

It's a good trade for Texas IF they can resign Lee in the offseason, otherwise they gave up a ton.

I'm going to move this thread (later on) into the MLB thread. Give this new guy a chance to see this....
