Oh there's no doubt it's poor and problematic language. I just know I've definitely heard girls say they'd gladly rape a guy and vice versa. They're just trying to communicate a high level of thirst instead of communicating intent.

Yep, incredibly stupid and awful thing to say. And the guy interviewing him didn't even react to it.

I expect he'll put out some sort of apology, blaming it on his age and immaturity but it won't matter, he's gonna get shit on regardless. That's just the way these things go.

and I should explain there's a strong difference between bantering with a group of friends in private versus going on a podcast where millions will be listening. You can't conduct yourself in such a way, not just because "Snowflakes will be offended." But because as a celebrity, even in a niche world, your words have impact on people. Some 15 year old dude will hear that and undoubtedly take it the wrong way and run wild with it.

Of course. People can have their fantasies (maybe that's the wrong word to use) and whatnot, far be it from me to judge. But yeah there are definitely those thoughts and feelings that shouldn't be made public.

Also, in saying that, you should never say it in front of a group of friends, either. It's not a crime or anything, but the more I think about it, it's hard to justify the connotations. You're actively promoting sexual violence whether it's your intent or not.

So, there you go, I have flimflammed on my own argument. I just always have the free speech battle with myself. At the end of the day though, facing professional ramifications isn't the same as legal consequences.

For sure. There's a difference between "wow she's hot I'd like to fuck her" and "I wanted to rape that woman."

I'm sure Sammy will put out an apology today but the reality is it's not going to matter. The people who are disgusted by his comments will view whatever he says in the apology as empty and just covering his own ass. The people willing to overlook it "because he was a dumb kid" have already forgiven him and don't even need to see an apology. Everyone will remain entrenched.

If he's truly remorseful, I'd much rather he donate a paycheck to RAINN or something instead of put out a paint-by-numbers apology blaming it on immaturity.

Thing about rape jokes and dead baby jokes is you can get a good cheap laugh out of them if you are inclined to and judge the situation well enough.

Dennis Reynolds is the alpha psycho in a show about awful bastards, so the terrible things that lot get up to are all in context and usually very well performed and written.

I think an episode where Dennis has to suffer the consequences of blurting out a badly timed, ill formed rape joke would be great stuff.

Here's the thing.

Khan has to fire Sammy. Like this might sound like an overreach, but he has to. He basically told Hogan and Linda Hogan that they could not attend AEW events because of Hogan being a racist (he of course did this over Twitter). Now he has to deal with the ramifications. It doesn't matter that it happened four years ago. It doesn't matter if he was trying to be in character of being an asshole. You can't say those things ever.
