dunno JV, I've watched it a few times, and SJ was swinging wild before anyone threw beer at Artest and Artest was already beating up the wrong fan.

I love people blaming Wallace, he did over-react, but it was a hard foul by a guy known for cheap shots and he pushed him.

Artest never should have lied down on the scorer table and the refs never should have left him there.

I do blame the fans, but if Artest didn't go in the stands after getting hit w/ the (cup or was it a plastic bottle) nothing would have escalated.

As someone put it, if Artest didn't run from wallace like a scared kid, none of this would have happened

Holy shit, "Hard Foul" my ass. If that was a hard foul, then some of the fouls I've been hit with in HS ball should have been called assault.


And yeah, Artest running like a scared kid. haha, yea blame the guy for backing off.

I blame the security the most, they fucked up big time.

Well from what i saw, Artest went into the stands, grabbed that guy and just wrestled him to the floor. Another guy to the right deliberately threw a cup of beer in Artest's face. Artest was going to go after him next but people held him back. However, Stephen Jackson saw this and proceeded to throw a haymaker to the fan. Also, c'mon, there have been worst case scenarios with fouling. I mean back in the playoffs in the early '90s b/t the Bulls & Pistons, the Pistons were KNOWN for stuff like this and did WORSE, but did Jordan, Pippen, or any other players react like Wallace? Artest, IMO, did not foul Wallace hard enough to cause that riot. Wallace was just upset at the fact that he got fouled and the Pistons were in a deficit. If Wallace kept his cool, like he should have as a pro, none of this would have happened.

wow, this is pretty big, they even showed some of it on sky sports news this morning in england. They never show any american sport unless its a pretty major happening. Also they told us the suspensions then, so wow. Wish i could have seen the whole thing

Instigating an on-court fight is usually a 5-10 game suspension. That's what Wallace got.

Wallace didn't instigate Artest going into the crowd. The crowd did. But even then, Artest should have known better.

If he was a first-time offender, give him 30 games like Jackson. But since this isn't the first time Artest has tried to go into the stands, he deserves what he got, and probably more.

And now he can go and promote his album for the next eleven months without all that pesky basketball getting in the way.

What is even funnier is people blaming Artest because he is a "loose cannon" or "known for things like this". Do you think Artest just wakes up and says "Hmmm, so who can i piss off today in the game". Fuck no. Wallace overreacted to a foul, a foul which is TYPICAL in a damn basketball game. Since i have played basketball all throughout high school i can tell you this and you can fucking quote me: Ben Wallace reacted the way he did because they were LOSING and they had a chance to come back, Artest committed a foul, and smart foul i might add b/c of Wallace's rep. at the free throw line, and Wallace reacted the way he did. And i forgot who said it, but people always say "Artest is wrong, he shouldn't have done that, blah fucking blah"...Well, you never know what YOU would do in a situation like that until YOU are in it.

Did you not see where I said that he clearly overreacted? Wallace deserved his suspension, no doubt. The foul was clearly intentional, and that's what pissed him off, but you don't shove a guy in the throat.

And, no, nobody wakes up and says "Hmmm, so who can I piss off today in the game?" You don't have to think that. If you're mentally unbalanced, when the opportunity presents itself, you go for it.

You hack guys after jump balls. You throw television monitors. You have to be restrained by an assistant coach to keep from jumping fans. You start grabbing and punching fans in the crowd.

I'm not convinced it's a conscious thing. I think Artest is mentally imbalanced and needs psychiatric help. Anyone with their head on their shoulders would have let security do their job on Friday night instead of taking matters into their own hands. He's a professional athlete for Christ's sake. Did he think the guy was going to put up a fight?

While I dont agree with the suspension, I also dont agree with Artest fouling him. That dunk wasnt going to be a 15 point basket.

Hey, it works in the court system. If you have a history of destruction of property and attempted assault, those things get taken into consideration when you actually haul off and punch somebody.

LOL OMG, wasn't it 92-87? That is only 5 points! And with like 40 something seconds left, i forgot what it was, do you know how quick a game can be changed in basketball within that time slot? I.E. Miami game that night

What I do yesterday is not revelent to what I do today.

Randy Moss is known to be immature and "thuggish" because of his past, but he's not.

Now, I agree Artest has acted like a thug, but last year he toned it down and I actually think he's trying not to snap when stuff happens. I dunno, I just don't see the suspensions being reasonable.

Also to put something note worthy here, Artest's knee went up into the knee/thigh/groin area of Wallace. I have watched that many times on the tape I have.

How long is it until the end of the season?

We had an incident in the football/soccer over here about 10 years ago whena player kung fu kicked a fan in the stand, and he got 6 months, this sounds pretty similiar.

Regular season ends in May, playoffs (which the Pacers will make) end in June.

All told, it's 73 games, about six/seven months.

Jackson should have grabbed Artest and pulled him out of there, that would have helped the situation.

on a side note, they say they have a good picture of the guy who threw a chair and the chair also hit a cop, so they're going to press charges.

Listen, when emotions are that high, what are the chances someone like Stephen Jackson, is going to go "Oh crap, let me go pull some of my teamates back so they won't get suspended?" Very Very Little.

Psychology is my minor and trust me, when there is a situation like that, the percentage of people who think rationally on the spot is minimum. And when you factor the world in which some of those guys group up in, it ain't happening.

Trips, just watched it again, SJ throws the first punch before the cup of (we assume beer) is thrown.

and LC, I understand your point, but it had nothing to do w/ "pull him back he might get suspended" how about "WTF, the guys lost it let me get him out of the stands" Did you notice other Pacers in the stands? and what we're they doing? Pulling players out!

Artest is an idiot, he got punked by Wallace who would have kicked his ass.

The lied down on the anouncer table, and stayed there w/ his legs crossed, etc...

The got hit w/ a cup, I'm not saying that the fans have any right to throw things, but you don't go in the stands and the best is he beat up the wrong guy!

Plenty of athletes get hit w/ things a lot worse then a cup, this was just a big Artest mental break down that's been coming, he either wants to be Dennis Rodman or somehow has the same brain.

I feel bad for the Pacers fans, the ticket holders that paid for tickets to see a good team and won't because Artest is an idiot, SJ over-reacted and god knows WTF was going through O'Neal head...
