Wow, so much for Ballard coming back to the Giants. Patriots claim him off of waivers. They'll stash him on their 90 man roster and pay him $540,000 to not play this year.

If he had gotten through waivers, the Giants would have been able to hold on to Ballard for the entire year without pay (reserve list) and he wouldn't have counted against the 90 man roster.

Players got the business in the CBA. Once training camp starts, they lose $30,000 per day if they hold out. I don't see too many players willing to lose that kind of money for too long.

The CBA was completely a win for the ownership. The rookie salary scale (even though veterans benefit from the extra money), and the way hold outs are handled more than make up for whatever they 'gave up'.

I gotta admit that I'm kind of a fan of the rookie wage scale. Other than that, the players should probably look into better representation for future negotiations. How the hell does anyone agree to a stipulation that allows the same guy punishing you to be the one who decides your fate on appeal?

The owners won the short term but I think the money differences from the CBA debates ended up being placed towards the pension and medical funds so in the end everyone benefits.

Jonathan Vilma and four other Saints entered their appeal this morning. Goddell (that asshole) adjourned their meeting and asked to meet later this afternoon.

VIlma ain't having that and said he isn't coming back for this circus. It appears that the other three are undecided on whether or not to return. All four may pursue other legal actions.


I love Jonathan Vilma's Gangster throughout this whole stint. He's on some Nino Brown shit...although Nino Brown rolled over and snitched on everybody as soon as he got some heat.

I love a story that ends with warm fuzzies all around. It was a sweet act by the child to send Jacobs his piggy bank money, and it was sweet of Jacobs to make sure the little guy knew that the gesture was appreciated. Jacobs is even pulling inspiration from the whole thing to get him motivated for the season.

"I'm at a point in my career when people have stopped believing in me and not believing that I can still play. But that's not the case. Joe believes in me, gave me a lot of confidence and a lot of want-to. And I'm ready to go. I can't wait until the season starts."

Well, if karma exists in that bounce house, Jacobs hopefully picked up enough Wednesday to improve on the 571 yards and 3.8 per carry he averaged last season. He won't get to do it in New York, like Joe wanted, but now maybe Joe can put his $3.36 towards the Sunday Ticket package and watch his hero in San Francisco.

Makes me sick to my stomach that the Broncos acquired Peyton Manning, but this doesn't mean that the Raiders/Broncos rivalry is one sided at all. I think everybody is going to be pretty surprised at how well the Raiders do this year. Trading away those draft picks maybe wasn't the greatest idea in theory, but if Carson Palmer pays off then it will all be worth it.
