Jays have the Orioles right where they want them (down 15-0 in the bottom of the 8th, 2 outs)

So what are we, 4.5 games back now?
Playoffs are slipping farther and farther away now. It's still August though. ![]() |

Also when did anyone say dispute your claims about the A's staff being better than NYY or Boston?

That's true, team ERA isn't the best stat. I tried to get starter ERA because the debtae before the season was mainly about the rotations but MLB.com fucked up and I was too lazy to keep looking.
Alot of people thought Boston had the best rotation in the AL after Chicago before the season. I remember the general consensus by alot of writers was "Yankees have the hitting, Red Sox have the pitching." VEL was one guy who definately thought Boston had a better rotation than Oakland but that was more due to the fact that VEL could name probably 2 pitchers on the A's roster. I thought the Red Sox pitching would be mediocre but I never would have thought they'd be 11 out of 14 in ERA. Last edited by The Miz; 08-20-2006 at 01:19 PM. |

I figured it would have been pretty dece with Schilling, Beckett, Wakefield, Clement and Wells
Schilling has been pretty good, Beckett is the most inconsistant pitcher I've ever seen, Wakefield pitched a bunch of games with a broken rib and still gave them a chance at least, Clement has lost his mind and Wells has knees that should belong to an 80 year old man. Everyone points them having a big payroll and how they hsould be able to get better pitching but it is kinda tough to get it. Hitting isn't a big deal, but pitching is tough to come by. That's why I think they are doing the right thing keeping all their young guys and letting them get beat up a little bit this season. It worked for the Tigers and I think the Red Sox young arms a bit further along than a lot of young Tiger pitchers where a few years ago. This weekend was pretty the much season, if they played good they'd have a shot at the playoffs and if they blew it they'd be outta it. Pretty much can say they are out of the race right now, pretty annoying since that Abreu trade actually worked out for the Yankees too. I fucking hate New York |

I had a feeling Clement and Wells would be terrible. Wakefield is usually decent, he's just been hurt. I had a feeling Beckett would be a flop. Schilling has been decentish. It all makes for a mediocre staff. Another big problem of late is they're pitching to Javy Lopez, which hurts all of the starters.
The young guys have done pretty well, they should make for a pretty good rotation in the years to come. It's basically a transition year for the Sox in my eyes... not that they're giving up or anything, but yeah. I like how they've built a solid defensive infield with Lowell and Gonzalaz and they've got a lot of pretty good young guys. Right now the Yankees are a better team though. Boston Massacre Part 2. If Randy Johnson was pitching well we'd have the best pitching in the AL. RJ, Moose and Wang have the potential to be the best top 3 in the AL, with Wright and Lidle as a decent enough back end. If you ask me only Detroit has a better rotation right now (and if Rogers keeps sucking then I don't know); Detroit and Minnesota if Liriano is healthy (though they could use another arm this year)... Oakland is pretty close or maybe even better when Harden is healthy (you could say the same about the Cubs with Wood and Prior though, as Harden looks to be headed down that path). |

Apparently Tom Glavine has some sort of blood clot in his pitching shoulder, could miss a start or two or could be out for the whole year, this could be pretty bad for the Mets come playoff time

God damn Braves bullpen is pissing me off. Tyler whateverthefuckhislastnameis cost us today. His 24th walk in 30 innings? Shiiiiiiit. Braves should be 59-64. Oh well, not like they'll make the playoffs anyway.

I was just looking up some stats. I was surprised to see 50 players have already 70+ RBIs. 65 players have 125+ hits and 30 players have 25+ HRS.

oh and I still an not sold on the Yankee staff. They are very inconsistent and without the run support behind them that they get, they are average at best. Sure they will pitch gems at times, but they scare me a lot in tight games. When you have a 7 run lead within the first 2 innings, it's kind of easy to settle in.

Holy shit Ted Lilly punched John Gibbons in the face after he took him out in the 3rd inning. Lilly is definately gone. Embarassing year for Toronto

There are alot of teams likely to make the playoffs in need of a starter, and Lilly is a better option that alot of #4 starters on those teams. Should be interesting where they deal him

I have to wonder about Gibbons. With Shea, I completely took Gibby's side because... well it's Hillenbrand. Now this. Not so sure if what you're claiming is the official story, they're being hush hush right now here. But what the fuck is Gibbons doing to provoke his players like this. Bad managing, that's what.

Yeah true, I don't follow much in baseball outside of the Red Sox but it seems to me that they overpaid for some of their pick ups this offseason. I mean BJ Ryan has been really good but didn't he get something like 50+ mil? Same goes for AJ Burnett who had a history of injuries, and has kept up with that tradition.
