Actually they don't have to; it would only assist a 2nd hand customer who doesn't intend on buying new. It would most likely hurt 2nd hand sells, by extension hurting the retailer, so they should make the moves.

As far as new sales go the companies invoked little change other than inputting a code before playing the game, a change that has thus far had an indifferent effect on new sales (EA says sales have improved but fuck that mess). So why should they drop dollar on promoting a change for a market that doesn't even support them? The party who should work that out is the one who benefits most - the retailers.

There is nearly no reason a company should say "Oh btw if you buy it used..."

I know, but they could at least look like they give a shit that people may not realise this practice is in place. For all they know, they might have someone buy the new one over the used game if they warned people.

Ah well, at least it's easy to not buy THQ games. They only make this and UFC that's worth a damn (and most years, SD v Raw hasn#t even been worth a damn)

I'll probably be out of console gaming once digital distribution is the norm. Unless they do a nice and friendly Steam model with decent sales and not the over-priced 360 GoD and PSP store, I'll probably be rageous over 5 year old games still costing full-price.

No doubt.

Still only cautiously optimistic though. '10 looked good but there were still no major improvements to the actual gameplay. I know some people were happy making stories and all that but... I just want to get in the ring and play.

The fact that an updated engine with decent physics was their number 1 new feature though gives me some hope.

Well 6 player HIAC is in and they've apprantly improved the netcode.

SDvR online is not something that ever appealed to me. I've got enough people to play it with in the flesh and it's not a balanced competitive game so I don't have the appeal of beating strangers.

While I do have an offline scene as well (historically just me and one other guy, but that was always enough), I would still enjoy some online silliness. Seeing people's CAWs and such.

We create a bunch a CAWs and act out a promotion. Commentary, promos, PPVs, everything. Even in front of chicks.

There's usually a 6th one that for one reason or another doesn't have an achievement...but who knows.

The Vs. Undertaker one sounds the most intriguing. I'm guessing it's the Created Superstar Road to WM, but it would be pretty cool if you had a bunch of guys to pick from for that story (hence why it's the Vs. Undertaker story and not the CAS story, the HBK story, or anything like that)

There are also a ton of achievements involving your CAS and WWE Universe mode. Winning belts, winning MITB, successfully cashing in MITB, etc. I can't wait to hear more about that mode.

If it's fake, good job to whoever did it. With WWE changing their minds on PPVs constantly, it makes sense that several of these shows no longer exist, and it's in the order the shows were run in 2009. My main confusion would be why they bothered leaving No Way Out in if they managed to get the Elimination Chamber (aka the exact same PPV) arena in, unless they just figured it may as well stay since they already put it in before EC was announced (plus it'd give a nice even 20 arenas).

Furthermore, somebody at SummerSlam Axxess posted the arena select screen and the only choices were SD, Raw, and SummerSlam (with SummerSlam being in a different spot). The logos were also different. That's probably just a demo version, but that's the reason I think it's fake. How did somebody get access to all the arenas? I mean, you can SEE a reflection of somebody taking a picture, but it's fishy at best.

The only reason this is even remotely important is because it would reveal whether or not NXT is in the game (it's selected so you can see the NXT logo in the background). Of course, I'd leave it to THQ to keep the NXT arena in but still not include the Season 1 guys.

The Vs. Undertaker one sounds the most intriguing. I'm guessing it's the Created Superstar Road to WM, but it would be pretty cool if you had a bunch of guys to pick from for that story (hence why it's the Vs. Undertaker story and not the CAS story, the HBK story, or anything like that)

There are also a ton of achievements involving your CAS and WWE Universe mode. Winning belts, winning MITB, successfully cashing in MITB, etc. I can't wait to hear more about that mode.

Did any of the other SvR games allow CAW import from older games?

The feature isn't on my wii game for sure, and if it was on other games but not the wii (just like the ability to import custom music) then I'm guessing wii owners will get the short end again =\

I've had an idea about CAW stats.
Seen as how they've done away with stat grinding and to stop everyone leveling up to 99 or whatever, why not have stats be sliders.
For example, one slider would have speed at one end and strength at the other. You could slide the slider to whichever point in the spectrum that suited the CAW. It would stop everyone having a super fast, super strong, hardcore submission master with high stamina.

THQ "doesn't care" that its one-use code for online play in Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 might upset its consumers. The publisher is waging war against the used games market, and if customers get pissed off, well boo hoo to them, apparently.
"I don't think we really care whether used game buyers are upset because new game buyers get everything," says THQ's Cory Ledesma. "So if used game buyers are upset they don't get the online feature set I don't really have much sympathy for them."

 "That's a little blunt but we hope it doesn't disappoint people. We hope people understand that when the game's bought used we get cheated. I don't think anyone wants that so in order for us to make strong, high-quality WWE games we need loyal fans that are interested in purchasing the game. We want to award those fans with additional content."

 Additional content? Where's the additional content? Since when did online play count as "additional" content? Don't get me wrong, I don't think THQ doesn't have a right to tackle used games, just as I don't think GameStop doesn't have a right to sell them. But stop talking shit, and stop trying to garner sympathy. When developers and publishers stop cheating consumers, maybe consumers can feel a little bad for "cheating" developers and publishers just because they want the best deal possible.

Maybe game makers should work on providing real additional content to reward new customers, rather than focus all their efforts on lazily punishing used buyers. Grow a pair of balls, developers, and tackle this properly. Making your own customers feel like criminals for lawfully buying games and trying to save paying $60 every time is not the way to win.
