The GameTrailers trailer makes it look almost cell shaded or something. I watched it again on GameSpot and it looked much better. I cannot wait for this game.

The first details on the multiplayer mode in GTA IV, which Rockstar promised to "reveal soon" last month, have emerged.
According to a preview in the latest issue of Games TM, one multiplayer mode will allow players to face off against each other, but they have to find each other first, before filling each other with lead. Apparently, players who commit enough crimes to raise their wanted level to seven stars will appear on the radar, opening the door for the other player to track them down and deal out some death. Talking about the single-player quest, Games TM reveals that the game will feature an in-game internet that will play an important role in the game. As one example, it describes Niko uploading his CV in application for a job, so as to get an interview with the boss - who he has to kill. Niko will also use his mobile phone to order and purchase weapons - so no more trips to ammunition shops then, hopefully. Similar to Driver: Parallel Lines, players will also have new, more realistic ways of avoiding cops. A more realistic recognition system means that if you drive into a secluded area during a chase, where no-one can see you getting out of your car and into another, you can emerge in the new vehicle and drive right past a squad car without being noticed. Hopefully the game will consider the cops' ability to see through the windscreen if you go past them head-on. All good stuff, and there'll be loads more revealed soon, no doubt, so stay tuned. http://72.14.209.104/search?hs=sUq&h...01&btnG=Search |

GameSpot has a really detailed preview. Some very exciting stuff in there.
http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/acti...ml?sid=6175585 I don't want to recap it now so just read it all. |

Guess I'll give it a shot recapping that article. Looks like some potential spoilers as well, so read at your descretion. This is going to be a long recap as well, I was originally going to break it up into point-form but there's simply too much information to do that.
As we already know, the phone is used as a two-way communication device. As well as receiving calls from people who want us to do jobs, we can use it to call people. For the first mission they saw us, a dirty cop calls and wants us to ice someone (a dirty cop in GTA? Say it isn't so!). In this case, it's a lawyer with evidence against the cop. Now, apparently, we can't go in the place guns blazing, we have to be more subtle. No, we have to get a job interview with the lawyer. For this, we have to go to one of the nice little Internet cafes called "TW@" and fill out an application form and resume. So we have access to the Web, an email account and some other stuff. We need some firepower so Niko asks this cop if he could get some hardware and the cop arranges for a friend to come around. No more Ammu-Nation anymore, buying guns looks to be more discrete now and you'll be getting them from the back of a van or the trunk of a car. As has been mentioned before, breaking into a car isn't as fast as it used to be. Nikos has to break the glass, unlock the door and then hotwire the car. No more parked cars with keys in the ignition. The police have a field of vision and if you're busted doing anything wrong, you're gotten an instant wanted level and now there's a physical search radius indicated on the mini-map as to where the cops will be looking. Get out of the search radius without being spotted and you're fine. However, cops will report where you were last seen and what you look like. Get spotted and your current location becomes the new search radius. As for methods to get away from the cops, one confirmed way to lose them is to drive to a secluded alleyway, get out of the hot car, get into a new one and drive way. The little vendors on the streets from San Andreas make their return as Nikos will be able to buy a hot dog to replenish a small amount of his health. Now if you're not in the mood to break the law, you can get a ride in a taxi. Flag down a taxi (if they'll stop for you) and get a scenic trip to your destination. After selecting where you would like to from a map, you can sit back and watch as the driver takes you to your destination, thanks to a controllable camera angle. If that bores you, you can skip it. Niko has his gun and he's now confirmed for an interview, he now needs a suit. Looks like character customization has taken a serious hit. You may make small changes to him and change his clothes, but say goodbye to buff Nikos and beefcake Nikos. No more muscle/fat bars. So it looks like we've been knocked back to the Vice City days of changing appearance. Niko has his interview (which he can sit through and listen to) and after a while, he ends it abruptly with a bullet. The dead lawyer's secretary has now panicked and called the cops. Time for a firefight. Details for gunplay are limited, what was mentioned is that cover will be a big part of the game. Nikos can hide behind something and fire aimlessly over the top of the structure or he can pop up and take more accurate shots. He can't use cover forever though as some objects will be destructable and a item will only take a few rounds before it's useless. Eventually, Niko gets killed near a vendor's cart and has to start again. They mention that the jail/hospital scenario from previous games hasn't changed. They show another mission where Nikos gets another call from his cop friend who, surprise surprise, wants him to kill another guy who is blackmailing him. Nikos steals a car and it appears the only noticeable change is that the driving view is now offset slightly to the left. Nothing major, but it apparently gives more of a 'cinematic presentation'. This is where my interest picks up. At the destination, Niko receives a text message from the cop, with the blackmailer's mobile number. Niko then goes to the top of a observation deck and calls the blackmailer's mobile. He now has to scan the crowd below to find him. He has to the confirm the identify of the blackmailer by watching for someone to pick up the phone while he's ringing and for him to hang up after the call's ended. Nikos confirms the target and a short time later, guns him down, causing a panic in the crowd and another cop-chase. The fine details for the game are impressive as every street in the game has been named and cops will actually use these street names to announce your last known whereabouts and you will be able to map your own route using these street names in the back of a taxi. Nikos can also interact with the environment around him as he will push anyone out of the way who gets too close to him as he's walking around. Not much about music is known as there wasn't much driving time. Looks like a wide variety of radio stations though with not one dominant genre of music. It's also reported that there's no clearcut inspiration for the story, like how Vice City is clearly inspired from Scarfire and San Andreas is inspired from Boyz n the Hood. Rockstar wants this to be an fictional work "about an immigrant story in a version of New York... and that's it". |

All this talk of doing "anything wrong" in front of cops has me worried it may take the fun out of the game a little, especially if it includes running red lights.

I've always wanted the taxi idea to be put into a GTA game and now it's in.
I have to admit this GTA didn't impress me much at first. Since SA I found the GTA games had gotten a bit "been there, done that". This is starting to sound interesting now though, with the stuff The Fugitive said in his last post in the thread. I haven't read much else about the game really. I might read some more info in this thread. I don't have a Ps3 or 360 (just a Wii) but if this turns out good and a few other interesting games come along I may get a 360. |

Who cares what is at fault. Nothing they can do to change it so we will just have to wait. I think Gamespot put it best in their poll with the option of:
Whew! Now I can focus my attention on Halo 3, Haze, Call of Duty 4, Mass Effect, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Lost Odyssey, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Warhawk, Tony Hawk's Proving Ground, Half-Life 2: The Orange Box, NBA Live 08, NBA 2K8, Conan, Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation, EA Playground, Clive Barker's Jericho, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, Need for Speed ProStreet, Assassin's Creed, Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures, The Simpsons Game, Turning Point: Fall of Liberty, Virtua Fighter 5, TimeShift, Mercenaries 2: World in Flames, World in Conflict, Beowulf, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2008, Army of Two, Brothers In Arms Hell's Highway, Rayman Raving Rabbids 2, SimCity Societies, Rock Band, Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, Universe at War: Earth Assault, SOCOM: Confrontation, God of War: Chains of Olympus, Devil May Cry 4, Unreal Tournament 3, and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. |

I'm glad it's been delayed. I don't have a 360, and won't be able to afford one until next year (if I do buy one). When GTA IV comes out, I'll most likely get a 360 then (provided it turns out great... I'm sure it will). I wanted a PS2, but didn't get one until I played GTA III.

And here is a table of the controls which I completely ripped from Kikizo:

I found it ammusing at first but it is one of those things that will make you want to claw someones eyes out eventually. Well, most adverts/commercials have that effect.
