Something happened when I was using those directions to get around the 4.2 update. I get this weird Opera browser error whenever I try to go into Wii system setting. Everything works fine other than that though. Don't know how to fix.

Question about the DVD app. Is there region coding on it, or would I be able to play region 2 dvd's on my Wii? I figure this would beat buying a region free DVD player.

I wouldn't advise it. I've heard that the Wii disc drive isn't really designed for the wear of playing DVD movies (which admittedly, could be BS), and is it really all that better than downloading DVD Region-Free on your PC, or buying a cheap DVD player ($30?) that will probably have a region hack ( www.videohelp.com )

it plays them just fine. nintendo didn't include it to play dvds because they would have to pay licensing

I believe one of the main causes for ps2 problems was how the disc runs almost 2-3 times faster for a dvd film than a ps2 game and over time of playing dvd films and games, the lens or drive itself would crap out and need to be fixed or replaced.

I assume since the Wii now uses a DVD-like format, they didn't want this issue to be possible and didn't want to pay royalties to the DVD Forum when they made their exclusive deal with Panasonic (who is part of the the DVD Forum).

finally got around to buying an enclosure for my broken laptop's hard drive to get all the data off. after i did that, i erased it and put some wii games on it. installed usb loader gx on my wii, and i am "off to the races". finally back to playing some wii

the IOS for punchout yeah you know you need IOS to play certain games.....not the ISO the IOS. The googles are doing nothing for me.

Yeah you do. But there is a new hack called Indiana Pwns that you can do to get the homebrew channel back if the update deletes it. Dunno how it affects your bootlegged games at all though. All you need is a copy of Lego Indiana Jones.

Question: How well do the emulators for the 8 and 16 bit games run? How is the compatibility? Don't really give a shit about Wii Online play and can get around not fucking with Wii Ware as long as I can play regular (official) games.

Basically would do this specifically for emulation, if I do it. As it is my Wii sits and collects dust except for Gamecube games, which I could use my Gamecube for...

They run perfectly. Even the N64 emulator I have runs a few games at like 99%.

Don't you have Preloader, or something similar, installed? It should have an option to block disk updates.

get preloader then, it's good for brick recovery, and has all kinds of good hacks you can place into your wii. like skipping pressing "a" when you turn it on, blocking region locks, etc.
