he should have tagged him no doubt, but if he heard the UMP call him out twice. I could see why he just walked away. |

Like I said, I'm glad this happened. This series has been stale up until now. Both games have been decided by 1 run, yet the games haven't been inspiring.

The head of the Umps or whatever basically spoke for Doug Eddings and said that he ruled the ball was trapped.

But heres my question. If the Umpire makes the geture saying he is out. Does he also have to yell that he is out to make it official? I mean he punched out. At what point is the batter officially out and how many gestures do you have to make to officially call him out? This stuff really needs to be clarified.
Josh Paul should have tagged him. |

I don't think the Astros have the offense to win the series.

Whether it was in the dirt or not, the ump made the right call. Paul shouldn't of been so quick to toss the ball away when it was that close. Did any of you notice that he wasn't out there arguing the call? Players (especially catchers) try to sell plays all the time. He sold the 3rd strike and it didn't work. No matter how many times you guys post or comment "the umps blew the game for the Angels", it won't change the fact that the series is now tied at 1. If the Angels' offense would of hit Buehrle during the game, that call would of never mattered. Oh well. And if anyone points to that play as the reason the Angels lost the series (if they in fact do), I'll throw this out ahead of time: GET THE FUCK OVER IT. :foc: |

You're only saying that cuz your team got the win. If it was the opposite, you'd be completely pissed off.

Seriously are there any umps/refs worse than in MLB?
Other than in the CFL I can't think of any, but those guys need second and third jobs to make ends meet. This isn't like a catcher framing a ball. He rolled it out to the mound because he knew he caught it. Why would he want to fake that when he could easily of tagged him out or threw to first. In what inning will you see the Angels make fun of this call next game? I'm assuming the first strike out the catcher will touch the player even if it is obvious he caught the ball. Childish, but I can definitely see it happening. |

I saw the replay online, so it was a small screen, but it does look like at the bottom/end the pitch changes direction and goes into the glove in an upward motion then downward, which is what the Ump says he saw.
Now, pitches do dip and rise etc... but that sharp an angle, right off the ground? I doubt it. I might have seen it bad, will try and catch it on ESPN later. He says he never called him out, that his signal was a strike signal, same one he always use and used all game. Dunno... plenty of catchers when it's close tag the batter just in case, Teck does it all the time. |

LOL the umpires for that game have blew this call so bad. They were so indecisive it's not even funny. I can see a call being blown but the name of the game for the UMP is to be 1. decisive and 2. consistent, but he signalled a strike and punched him out and basically the play is dead. AJ was even walking to the dugout but then started running. So he basically changed the call just because he wasn't sure if the catcher caught it or not, which he obviously did. What the hell were the other umpires doing?

And why shouldn't I believe what I wrote? It was a heads up play by AJ to run when he didn't hear himself called out. Yes he saw the sign for the 3rd strike but he was never called out. The game is fucking over people. Like it or not the series is still tied at 1. God, if this happened to the Yankees.. Fox might lobby for the game to be replayed. And for all of you up in arms that the Angels got screwed, go find the audio clip from the Angels' own braodcast team. They didn't bitch and moan, they just called it a "heads up play by AJ". |
