Charlie Haas: What I'd LOVE to see.
With Charlie Haas now gone from WWE, he's said in interviews (on the front page) that he will end up somewhere, IE TNA or ROH.
Seeing as I'm a huge fan of Charlie Haas, and since WWE can seriously use the kick in the ass, I'd freakin' love it if Charlie Haas turns out to be TNA's version of Steve Austin '96. Whether you liked Austin or not, I don't think anyone back in '95/'96 had any idea how truly big he'd become. Imagine Charlie Haas, leaving WWE no different than Austin did WCW, and going to TNA, somehow finding his niche and becoming a megastar like Austin, and therefore properly putting TNA on the map. It'd be pretty cool coz it seems unlikely, and I like Haas. PS. This isn't a 'WWE sucks' or a 'How can TNA beat WWE' thread, this is simply me supporting Charlie Haas in his future endevours. ![]() |

It could be entertaining but even as far back as 1991/92, it was clear Austin was destined for big things, he was pretty much great from day one (although obviously like you say, nobody could have predicted how big those things would be) Charlie Haas has never really shown anything other than being a solid hand in the ring.

That said, he did alright/showed a bit of personality when ripping off other guys. Stranger things have happened.

I think that Charlies Haas could put on some amazing matches in ROH...
To parallel the Austin transformation we'd need to see him experiment with a new character while in ROH while working on a contract with TNA. |

Charlie Haas has got all the ability in the world to be a credible threat in whatever promotion he works for. People seem to think that the only thing holding Charlie Haas back is charisma. I think Haas has plenty. Charisma does not need to be loud. And Haas isn't even bad on the mic. Every time I have heard him speak, he sounds confident enough. It's just not the "thing" he is known for. When he does speak, the crowd actually seems to get pretty into him.
TNA could bring him in as "Kurt Angle's friend," and Haas could work some matches with Angle against some heel tag teams. Mr. Anderson & Desmond Wolfe? Eventually, a match between Kurt Angle and Charlie Haas could become a modern classic. Meanwhile, Eric Bischoff can be telling Charlie that a guy with his personality isn't going to draw a drime, and Haas can just tell him stuff like "I AM wrestling." Have him start doing the Haas of Pain and Total Haastility (his version of an Angle Slam), and I think he could get pretty over. |

it'd be a very interesting thing to see Haas become the next steve austing (thow deep inside I know it won't happen) none the less I think he'll make a great addition to either roster althow at the moment TNA is a bit flooded so mabe he should wait on that

Something that works in Haas' favour (in my opinion). He is so damn likeable. He's a hard worker who has kept his mouth shut for years doing what he is told. He's got a wife who was both a Diva and a Knockout, has got one or two kids, runs multiple businesses, has his shit together, but has lost his brother and many great friends. The dude just has this natural sympathy about him that makes you want him to succeed while he is getting a push, in my opinion.

My issue with the wwe's storyline system is that they constantly have a good portion of their roster with nothing to do at all. I'm not saying cut more wrestling time and add more promos, I'm just saying they need to better utilize their talent and their time. An aside comment from Cole about how a character not on-screen is doing such and such could make a real difference in someone's career. The WWE also over-utilizes their top-guys. Instead of having them in matches every week, they should just build-up their matches at PPVs while giving lower-card guys more chance to improve in the ring and get the fans to like them. Haas seems like a stand-up guy. If I was a writer for the WWE I'd of had stuff for him to do. |

Haas has been pretty much jobbed out to be a threat anywhere. If TNA tries to bring him in and make him a top guy then they are dumber than I thought.

He could get a decent rub if TNA allies him with angle in the beginning and plays out their history in WWE. Maybe eventually have Haas try to overtake the teacher and set up a great match between the two.

Haas would really need to be built up or given a gimmick change for it to work. It wouldn't be the first time someone who got jobbed out a bunch in one company got a tremendous push in another. Jericho's WWE push was tremendous compared to his time in WCW (though admittedly I might have enjoyed him in WCW more). Austin's push in WWE. Jarrett's pushes in WCW. There's a good deal of guys who've had amazing kayfabe changes in luck.

Personally, being jobbed out in a company doesn't take away any of the potential to be a threat. Mainly because wrestling is scripted to begin with.
If Charlie Haas was in MMA and kept losing, obviously you wouldn't consider himself a threat, but in this case we know the only reason he's been losing is because of writers pulling his strings. With the right gimmick, build, time and care, anyone in the world of pro wrestling can become a superstar. |

I could see him as a tag champ in TNA,that's about it. You bring up Jericho, Austin in WCW. Jericho was a multi time cruiserweight and tv champ, Austin a former TV champ, Jarrett a multi time IC champ. Haas has never even been close to being a success in singles action, and you know TNA fans would piss all over Haas having singles success except maybe the smarks. He's been nothing but a jobber as a singles wrestler.

Jericho going from Cruiserweight Champ and Television Champ to rival of The Rock is still a pretty big leap, though. They could just put Haas over for his amateur credentials alone and he'd be credible.

Dan Severn and Brad Rheigians were outstanding amateur wrestlers whose accolades were well known. Being good in amateur means squat in pro wrestling. Who was the last star to come out with a great amateur background? Lesnar?

My point was, Jericho and Austin had accomplished things as a singles wrestler when they made the leap. Haas has been around for about 7 years and hasn't come close to any singles title. The closet was when he returned and fought Benjamin for the IC title and that ended quick. They've tried to get Haas over as a singles wrestler and it has failed miserably besides a run as a comedy guy where he had no chance of getting a singles title.

A Haas/Angle rivalry would be awesome. Similar to the one Angle had with Benoit in 2003 based on the whole 'the name of the game is wrestling' thing.

When it comes to guys like haas and benjamin, I don't really need to see them hold the title. I just want to see them in a good 20+ minute match, with no restrictions on what they can do in the ring.

I think Fignuts' reasoning for lkking Haas may be the consensus for his popularity here. I personally don't think he will ever be anything more than a mid card wrestler at best. But I appreciate his in ring abilites and would like to have seen him utilized in a better role. Good ring workers like Haas have a proper place in the business.

I still wouldn't blame Haas' lack of success on himself and more on the climate. While Paul Heyman was booking, for example, Haas looked like a fucking machine paired up with Shelton Benjamin. But when other guys got put in charge, they had no clue what to do with Haas, and it almost seemed like they were afraid because Vince personally didn't like the guy. It's not like the dude got put in a position to really succeed and failed.
Charlie Haas, to me, is the executive producer of a critically acclaimed show which got picked up by a mainstream network like NBC. Because of the timeslot he was put in, he never got the ratings to make the network execs happy, but everyone knew that it was such a good show that they kept it around for eight years, despite a hiatus somewhere there. Now the show is cancelled, the executive producer is pissed off, and it's time for him to shop around to HBO. I'm not saying that a World Heavyweight Championship is neccessarily in the future for Haas, but I don't see why he can't get a few Emmy nods here and there -- and hell, maybe even win a few. |

Ffs, nobody has ever cared about Haas in a singles role in the past, present or future. Why you people think that all of a sudden he'll catch fire is beyond me. Nobody cares about Charlie Haas!
