Wrestlers & Drugs: Blame the "business"?
I read the article about Luther Reigns and his stroke and it's got me wondering if it's really the nature of the business that makes these guys pop pills and take steroids or does the business attract guys who are likely to do those things anyways?
It seems to me that some of the biggest tragedies in wrestling (Pillman, Eddie) and guys we worry for (Hardy, Jake, Hall) were/ are people already a little crazy or off beat or had personal struggles growing up that would make them do those things. What do you guys think? |

I definitely think that a lot of those who choose to make a living by intentionally punishing their bodies at the level they do, day in and day out, has to be a little off beat and possibly has some issues from the start. This is not to take anything away or bad mouth any of these great entertainers in any way.
Most of them are really cool people personally and I have nothing but respect for them and the sacrifices they make to entertain us. However, I think there must be something going on inside to make them want to punish themselves for the entertainment of other people. Especially considering that many of them do this for years in the independents for little to nothing. |

it WILL ALWAYS be the fault of the wrestler. even if u say 'well he/she has issues' its still their own fault. Vince doesn't hand each guy a fistful of pills before work every night

Wrestling attracts addictive personalities. I wouldn't say it's because of the business, but it's certainly not unrelated.

Maybe it's your fault, you gelatinous tapeworm, for cheering for men like Dave Batista and John Cena instead of men like Daniel Bryan and CM Punk.

Sure he doesn't hand any one pills but he creates an environment where a lot of guys feel it is necessary to start popping pills. If a wrestlers get injured, he loses his spot on the card. So that's why so many guys work through injuries and are a lot of them were taking pain killers. And how many guys have been fired while injured? A few on the top of my head but probably a lot.
