CAPCOM DICK MOVE: Final Fight requires you to be online on PS3

Yeah, Capcom doesn't like the ability to share games with other people, so they put some wonderful DRM on it for you. Cunts. You need to be online to start the fucking game.

Capcom Testing New DRM With Final Fight: Double Impact
Download title requires internet connection.

US, April 21, 2010 - Capcom apparently isn't thrilled with PlayStation 3's ability to share game files over PlayStation Network.

IGN reader nacthenud recently tried to boot up Final Fight: Double Impact on a separate account for his kids that he shared the game on. He discovered that account, which cannot connect to the Internet for security purposes, is unable to play the game. He later discovered Final Fight: Double Impact can only be played on the same account it was purchased on.

Capcom issued a response to his concern, according to his message post, saying this move was done in an effort to combat "rampant" game sharing on PlayStation Network but emphasized this may not be implemented on all future titles.

"Yes, there is DRM. This was employed to combat the rampant 'PSN Sharing' that has been going on over the last year," a representative wrote to nacthenud. "We're sorry that your family cannot play the game on their individual accounts (same console). This is a limitation of the Sony network."

"We are not committed to do this with all titles moving forward but the only way to evaluate impact was to try it with one title first."

IGN has reached out to Capcom for additional comments but hasn't heard back. We can confirm that the game doesn't play on an offline PS3.

Update: The game only requires one initial check at at start-up. Once the game has loaded, it appears you can then sign out of PSN.

Shame really, Capcom have been doing so much good recently that you kind of forget they're a business and then shaft everyone with protection bullshit.

When you re-download a XBLA title on another console you'll have to remain online to play the whole game (otherwise it's back to demo status). You can only change this by transferring your digital licenses to your new home console (which you can only do once a year). So this isn't new at all, but if the convenience is hurt more than it is already I guess it can be a problem.

Good. If we can't share games over Live, then you bastards shouldn't be able to on PSN.

You can still play it on the original console, too. No online check.

Yeah I got fucked on that deal. Bought a used 360 when my first one finally went out, transfered the licenses to it, and low and behold, IT went out. So I bought a brand new arcade console and have to wait until September to transfer licenses to it.

What the fuck is it with companies making games online only?
Is it truly necessary unless its like an MMORPG? I am not completely educated in the technical aspects of the topic so if someone could shed some light on the issue..

They wanna combat piracy. A few measures ended up screwing over lawful owners, though. You should look up the Ubisoft DRM fiasco.

Really, it's not technically an issue. It's only a problem because they want to combat piracy. Kalyx mentions the Ubisoft fiasco, where loss of your connection means you can't access the game (same if their servers go down).

Honestly, I don't get it with consoles. PC games I do understand, but with the consoles it's pretty easy. Just keep the disk DRM and DRM the downloadable games so that they can't be transferred by easy means, but do have an official way to achieve it.

Do that many people really have modded consoles? Or even know about the concept? The built-in console DRM is enough.

Also, PC DRM done right = Steam.

I don't support DRM, for the record, but they're going to ridiculous lengths for what is a losing battle.

Erm, how do you transfer licenses for XBLA? I'd like to do that since this is my second box.
