Austin

Its now official:

From WWE.com:

WWE and Steve Austin part ways

After months of negotiations, the WWE and Steve Austin have been unable to come to terms on a new contract and as a result have mutually agreed to part company.

Both parties have left the door open to work together again in the future and the WWE wishes Steve the very best in his future endeavors.

Wow. I knew there was stuff going on, but I must say I am surprised at this. I still enjoyed him in moderate amounts. He really served no purpose, though. Oh well.

My girlfriend will be disappointed.

I'm sure he'll be back though.

You think TNA would jump on him? If the WWE were worried about it, they wouldn't have let him go in the first place. Maybe they know that TNA doesn't have the cashflow to pay for someone like Austin.

I would not mind seeing him on NWA: TNA for a couple of appearences. Especially now that they appear to have a TV deal. If Austin went to TNA I believe then the WWE would have legit competition. And theres also the VERY slim possibility that Austin would come out of retirement...

Austin/Sting is always a possibility
Austin/Raven feud would kick some major ass...

A fairly unwarming goodbye to the person who revolutionized sports entertainment. I may be one of the few who actually remembers this, but Austin wrestled through injury after injury and changed the entire face of wrestling. I don't care if he beats his women, Austin is sorely missed.

I wouldn't say that I don't care if he beats women, but yes, he did work his ass off for the business, and he did revolutionize it. Missed...maybe a little. I just wish he had done it properly the first time with one big final match.

He's not dead...so I don't view this as a farewell.First, shows how reliable all those Net news sources are that were saying things were "going well" a few days a go. And doesn't the WWE own the "Stone Cold" name/character? That's going to have a major affect on how or even if he makes an appearance for another company like TNA.

Yeah, but who hasn't heard of "Steve Williams"? Sure, there are probably a lot of marks out there who may not know, but the majority of Austin fans out there probably will recognise the name immediately. And for the people who haven't heard of his real name, they could be real shady about it and be like "From AUSTIN Texas, Steve Williams!" And besides...the only people who won't REALLY be able to tell the guy by his name will be the people who hear radio advertisements. His face is super easy to recognise.

They may not have competition YET, but the WWE is fucking stupid for allowing Goldberg, Lesnar and Austin to run loose. Seriously. Even if Lesnar were going for the NFL, IF, and I'm saying IF someone got those three names in their promition, get ready for Monday Night World War II.

As much as I appreciate his work revolutionising wrestling, please understand that I've never been a big fan of his. And since WM XIX he's been holding down midcard talent without wrestling a single match.

Yeah, that much is agreeable. I would spit the same kind of hallelujah if he stopped holding down talent and continued to do something constructive in his role. This is just the last way I'd want it to happen. BY THE WAY WRESTLEMANIA XIX WAS A GOOD NIGHT. His last match, he puts over The Rock. That makes me kinda happy.

I was discussing this with someone on AOL:

Wouldn't a smart promoter (or Austin himself) try to line up Austin vs Goldberg and just run a pPV on their own. Isn't that the match-up most mainstream fans have wanted since the Monday Night Wars days? Austin and Bill are buddy-buddy. Throw in some known guys with nothing to do like Scott Hall, X-Pac, Vader, etc...ad some matches with some of the more well known indy workers...you get the idea.

If an investor put together a PPV headlined by Steve Austin vs Bill goldberg even as a one time deal, it'd make millions.

Dream Stage Entertainment (owns PRIDE) is trying to do just that, or so I hear.

Here we go.

I have to agree that if a Goldberg vs Austin match is on ppv on another promotion, it will make huge amounts of cash. Or even a Lesnar vs Austin vs Goldberg match? It'd suck, but still.

Im not really sad to see him go, I got kinda bored with him these past few years. I'll probably start to miss him after a while though, that always happens when a wrestler I like (or used to like) leaves.

I agree with RB. Even though Austin wasn't an active member of the WWE roster, he will be greatly missed. He did help revolutionize sports entertainment was we know it today.

I was never an Austin hater, because I have a deep respect for the guy who was willing to still work for a company even though he couldn't do what he loved. I wish Stone Cold the best and hope I can hear the glass break one more time, even if to say goodbye.

Yeah, but it was pretty shitty.

Also Austin has been talking about a retirement match for a long time.

Doubt he's going to get one now unless he miraculously negotiates one last match with WWE.

Deceit does not have that much rep yet (10+)
Honestly, him leaving is just better for up and coming talent. Rather than having Austin take up time with meaningless ATV/stunnering/beer drinking, we can have some actual talent step up.

Austin/Sting is always a possibility
Austin/Raven feud would kick some major ass...
While I don't really want to see Austin in TNA (Or anywhere else), his name could help to draw people to NWA, and that's not a bad thing...

Given Austin was in the ER like the day before the match... I still give the man credit for wrestling through the neck injuries. He's a bad mother fucker. And I've never seen anyone sell like he did in that match. I think it was great.
