Should they bring back the piledriver?
This guy Hail had a great stuff piledriver as they put it and I actually love that they refrence "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff. I'm not sure what the actual ruling on using piledrivers nowadays and I think the last person to use it was Eric Young for awhile (minus the Undertaker's tombstone piledriver). Rhyno had a sick spike piledriver in ECW, so did Mick Foley's pulling piledriver. Should they bring back the piledriver as a finisher? |

Nope. Anything that cuts down on neck/spine injuries is good. Bringing it back isn't going to make any companies revenue better so it's fine being left as is, maybe only used to get an injury angle over or something.

No. Safety first. There are thousands of other moves that people can do that wont possibly leave them in a wheelchair for the rest of their lives.

Yeah its a great move bring it back just don't use it all the time. It should be something Cena does to turn heel on Randy Orton

If it ended a match I'd be cool (ie. 1 a match), but if it's just some mid-match type move that gets a two count, definitely not. |

Its still used in all companies not named WWE. They should use it very rarely as a special move, used by heels to get angles over. And only the regular piledriver.
The inverted piledriver that Owen Hart used in that video should never be done. It is near impossible to deliever safely. |

Kind of ironic that Austin broke Chono's neck with this move and then four years later has his own neck broken by it. Also both people that suffered the broken neck became much more over by being less capable in the ring and focused on their charecters instead.

Shawn Michaels used the piledriver sparingly all the way up through his last match.

In defence of the Piledriver, for all the ones we see that go terribly wrong, there were hundreds that went off fine.
Personally I don't really care. Always thought it was a bit of a bland move anyway to be honest. |

I'd take thumbtacks before I took a piledriver, that's all I'm saying.

It's the same as blade jobs or unprotected chair shots. It's not neccessary. I have never and never will watch a match and think "that was great but it could have used a chairshot to the head or a piledriver."
Great storytelling is great storytelling, and moving past a couple of dangerous minor spots to protect the workers is not going to change this. In fact I view it as a good thing. |

lol good point, jeritron
Kind of ironic that Austin broke Chono's neck with this move and then four years later has his own neck broken by it. Also both people that suffered the broken neck became much more over by being less capable in the ring and focused on their charecters instead. im calling bs on that. Austin was already ridiculously over in 1997 before his broken neck, and its not as if his character suddenly was much deeper after it - if anything, he lost depth in 98-99, imo. |

I agree as well. I lumped blade jobs in, but didn't say the same about blade jobs in the quote because I have a bit of a different opinion on that. I didn't get into it further.
Blade jobs aren't nearly as dangerous or pointless as the other two banned spots. Blade jobs can add a ton to a match/story. I am all for blade jobs in key situations, but they had gotten to a point where they were overused. A break from them may help. I think they should be used sparingly for the most intense situations. I also think they should be done at the discretion of the wrestlers invovled, and not something that is a day at the office. I do think they have a place but I also don't find myself being a bloodthirsty fan who wishes there was a bladejob in a great match. I agree 100% about Flair, Austin, and other classic blade jobs. As you said, the trick is all in the timing. Just like any other gimmick or storytelling device it is best when used appropriately and not overdone. |

If used sparingly, built up as something special to end a big match, then yes. But as a transition move it seems a waste. I always liked how someone would attempt it and have it reversed, made it seemed bigger when it was ever completed.

If it's done right, and both guys takes care, it's bang on the money and a great move. Fuck yes, bring it back.

If they bring it back we might get a few more Jerry Lawler matches per year.....1 reason to keep it retired.
