How long will this 3D bandwagon last?
So every movie will be in 3D. Just to sell tickets.

Depends on how many more films they convert to 3D rather than film in 3D, I'd say. There's always room for a special-effects bonanza in the market. Might die down a bit but, the only thing that I see killing this style is the shitty conversions like Clash of the Titans.

I don't think it's going away. Now that TVs have it and channels are going to start broadcasting in it it's no longer just a novelty. I don't see the trend increasing though. 3D is only for a certain type of movie and as of right now theaters only have a limited number of 3D screens anyway.

DTTS is right. 3D will succeed when it's quality 3D that immerses the viewer and doesn't make them feel like they're watching a shitty gimmick.
Conversions don't really work, and people seem to hate them. The average person doesn't realize that conversions are poor representation of the technology though, so they may form opinions based on that. I still don't think it will kill the trend though. It's kind of faddy right now, but once the movies start coming in that are concieved and shot in 3D, it will be better. I bet the next generation of video game consoles will use 3D as their big selling point, and the technology will probably be pretty good. Apparently the upcoming nintendo DS is in 3D (without glasses) and looks amazing. |

HD's been around since about 1832, and it only really caught on recently. The install base right now is still the early adopter realm. |

That's true. The price is a huge drawback, especially when a lot of people have just upgraded their TVs to LCD or plasma within the last five years. It will probably depend on how the price comes down and what kind of programming is offered (which may ultimately be determined by who is watch 3D TV to begin with).

I've seen two films in 3D so far, and to be honest, for the extra price for a 3D screen, I'd be happy watching it in 2D. 3D really isn't as great as it's made out to be.

I would have thought it would have died off after they left the WWE and it did.

I haven't seen any of these new movies in 3D. But I'd say give it by 2012/mid 2011 to die out.

If you've seen Avatar in true IMAX 3D, then you'd probably agree that it has a future and is not a fad, if done correctly.
If you haven't seen anything in 3D and threw together an opinion, or saw a couple shitty converted movies like Clash of the Titans and Last Airbender at your local regular sized screen cineplex, then you are a bit misinformed about the technology. |
