Another bash Kane Knight thread....or not?

I wanted to gather everyone’s honest opinion on an incident that occurred on the political discussion board. I am routinely attacked and called names on that board. Let me assure you that I do not give a rat’s ass about name-calling, flames, ratings, etc. This one, however, hit home. Kane Knight started with the following statement in reference to me:

“I chose the one most likely to prove my point to a retard who actually thinks the media is liberal and fox is a viable news source.”

I stated that I do not care if he attacks me, but do not insult the people who actually suffer from mental retardation – and alluded that this hits home with me. He continued to state that:

“No, calling you a retard is what's insulting to the mentally handicapped.”

And

“Also, you seem to be operating under the assumption that I don't view you as some mentally handicapped little kid.”

I let Kane know in a PM that I have a brother who is mentally retarded. I stated that while I love my brother dearly, it has been very hard on my brother, my parents, my siblings, and me for over 30 years. I stated that we should have a truce and all I wanted was for him to reconcile the fact that his statement was wrong and retract it. I even suggested that, if he were to do this within a PM, I would not reveal this on the board and I would consider the matter closed. I even stated that, again, I do not care what he calls me as long as he does not use that term again. He not only refused to answer my PM, but also proceeded to post this afterward in the thread:

“Sledge, go **** yourself.”

I just want to know if I am over reacting here??
