So how much would it cost to start a wrasslin' company?

So just wondering...

Imagine you have a backer (I dunno, Donald Trump or some shit). This ain't like TNA. This is going global. Competition with the WWE.

You're looking out for a TV deal. You're not going PG as you are a fan of the Attitude era, you are taking it on the road, you need a team.

How much would you need do you think? and to spice it up, who's writing the shit and who you having for:

Try to go with people who are nearing the end of the contact or free agent or you think you could steal somehow? Like as if this is happening now.

Head Writer:
2 more writers:

5 Main eventers:
10 Development / lower card stars:
5 Other wrestlers:

Commentary team:
What type of show you're putting out? (i.e. 2 hour show? Just talking, or actual matches and a little talking)

Head Writer: Paul Heyman
2 more writers: Gabe Sapolsky, Scott Levy

5 Main eventers: AJ Styles, Desmond Wolf/Nigel McGuiness, The Miz, CM Punk, Rob Van Dam

5 Mid Card: Kaval, Samoa Joe, Bryan Danielson, Kofi Kingston, Matt Morgan

5 tag teams (Adding this in): Shelton Benjamin/Charlie Haas, Motor City Machine Guns, The Briscoes, Kings of Wrestling (Chris Hero and Claudio Castignolli), American Wolves (Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards)

6 Development / lower card stars: Yoshi Tatsu, Zack Ryder, Justin Gabriel, Kenny King, Rhett Titus, Jimmy Jacobs

5 women wrestlers: Mickie James, Sara Del Ray, MsChif, Gail Kim, Naomi (yes, from NXT)

3 Managers: Larry Sweeny, Paul Heyman, Kaitlyn (From NXT)

Commentary team: Matt Striker and Joey Styles

I'd do it very ECW style, but mixed with TNA's backstage/ Aftermath show. Not a ton of in ring talking, but some, more backstage promos/vignettes, good angles that are original/unique, but don't overwhelm the show. Focus on wrestling, but don't make it the end all be all. 2 hour show, once a week, PPV every three months, 2 house shows a week. Start off initially on the East Coast/ New England area, venture down to the South as well, hit some of the old territories.

90% of the guys listed would probably work for TNA pay. Give all the wrestlers a 50% chunk of all there merchandise that sells, keep them happy.

Would really like to hear him say this. But bet it was just an offhand comment.

I wouldn't understand all the stocks and shit, but I dare say somewhere it's available as they are a public company. Having said that, can they just restrict stuff also? Even if you can buy stocks?

Well to go a little more indepth :

First of all you'd need a business plan, after that is approved and what not you'd need a loan.

Now if you get that far, you would need to hire a wide variety of people to even get this off the ground, just to name a few

Lawyers
Ring Crew
Light Techs
Sound Techs
Road Agents
Publicists
Music Production
Wardrobe/Makeup Artists
Referees
HR & PR
Creative Writers (Except Russo)
Copy Writers (For Internet and Possible Magazine)
Accountants
Account Assistants
Animators and Graphics Designers
Editors ( Both In Studio as well as In the Production Truck for Live events)
Producers and Directors for both Live show and Pre-recorded events
Marketing Department.....

Anyways, you get where im going.

Factors in ALL of those things and you might just have what it takes to create... well a Wrestling company.

If not... well just enjoy the product on television.

You know, with everyone's obsession in recent years with wanting to have a hand in what goes in a wrestling company, you'd think they would have made a video game that allows you to do this very thing by now. Of course the licensing would be a nightmare trying to get all those known wrestlers in it.

If you wanted a large company like you are talking about, then it would take millions.

If you want a small little indy fed, then you can do it far cheaper, in the thousands, I would say under $8000 for the initial investement, monthly after that maybe around $3000-$4500 to have some quality talent in the ring. The biggest problems would be finding a suitable facility, and paying talent. Then you have to get people in the door, and buy a ring, lights, and PA system. Then you should be able to get your show on public access for a small fee or free. You just have to make sure that it is edited to fit within your given time frame.

It all depends on what your looking for. I would start with a small fed and build momentum and gradually increase the size of the company until you had a steady following and expand your venue to somewhere larger, then you could progressively get better, more expensive talent in the door and possibly a more lucrative TV deal. It's all about baby steps.

Depends on where your shows are and if you already own the lighting.

I used to go to shows where they ran their shows for about $2500 a month. Pretty decent show too. They ran out of a church recreation building, so the facility cost was cheap, the had 4 par 56 lights in the 4 corners of the gym, and a PA system.

It's not like they were running of a bingo hall, Eagles Club or a VFW with some crazy lighting set up and expensive facility fees. They kept it simple and were able to bring in pretty good regional talent.

The only people they had "working" were volunteer security guards and 2 camera operators using handycams. They got free concessions for the night. All the lower guys on the bottom of barrel were tasked to set up the ring and tear it down.

Really? hmmm, I thought it would be more difficult to run a company.

Ahh, AAW in Iowa. I didn't realize that you talked that in depth with them during the try-out.

I need to keep all of this information in mind when I somehow get filthy rich and blow it all on a terrible promotion. I shall call it TPWF and hire Xero and Noid as my creative writing/bookers. I will broadcast everything live on JTV and upload everything to youtube so everyone knows what's going on. It will probably be terrible, but as long as I get to wear a top hat, suit, monocle, and walk around with a cane I will most likely be too out of touch with reality to care.

Head Writer: Jimmy Cones, since I'll have final say.
2 more writers: Xero, Noid

5 Main eventers:
Shelton Benjamin
Christopher Daniels
Charlie Haas
Jerry Lynn
Mark Magnus

10 Development / lower card stars:
Gregory Helms
Marty Wright
Colt Cabana
Chuck Taylor
Austin Roberts
Jimmy Jacobs
Danny Daniels
Austin Aries
Arik Cannon
Chris Hero

5 Other wrestlers:
CJ Esparza
Brett Gakiya
Krotch
Jordan McEntyre
Darin Corbin

Commentary team: Jimmy Cones (I don't think I'd say much), I'm not sure who else. I tried to come up with reasonable talent and not a dream team, but when it comes to announcers it's hard. JBL comes to mind though.

I sense your sarcasm, but let me say this too.

They weren't doing it to make money, they were strictly hoping to break even each month. They worked full time jobs outside of running the promotion. Any money they did make from the shows, went straight back into it.

If you want to start and indy wrestling company to make money, then your an idiot, and you'll be shut down in months. If you want to do it to have fun, that's different. But if you have a large backer (Panda Energy for example) then you can just fuck off and blow all kinds of money.

My phone can shoot 720p and homeless people are in abundance. Might even look more real than WWE/TNA.

I'd say about a fiver.

You should forgive Dr. Pope for his not being amused since the original post did specify a global wrestling company to compete with WWE and it's been a rough week on the personal front with his man crush Deangelo Dinero being called a primadonna and him being the only smart one on the short special ed bus known as the TNA fan base.

Love ya Dr. Pope... just had to get those sucker punches in!
