WWE retiring titles
So apparently the WWE has retired the prestigious World Tag Team titles (WWF Tag Team titles). The current tag team belts held by
SPOILER: show According to the dirt sheets, Layla is going to be recognized as the final Women's Champion and the current Unified Divas title history shall be merged with the Divas Championship history which was also created on Smackdown. On a personal note, I really hope that they don't unify the Intercontinental & United-States titles and make them brand exclusive. As far as the Heavyweight titles are concerned, I am not sure which title should be retired. Feel free to post your opinions ![]() |

In a different way, I am glad they retired the prestigious Women's Championship. Unless WWE builds up a good Diva roster, they are better off with a newer title with next to no history behind it.
The same can be said about the World Tag Titles but good tag teams can be built up anytime WWE chooses to. I am saddened by this particular retirement. |

They should have retired the Diva's Title and kept the Women's Title....and they should have retired the WWE Tag Team Titles (the ones created on SD by Stephanie McMahon) and kept the World Tag titles. Having such a long history just adds to the prestige of the title, rather than having titles with just a few years of history. Those titles need all the value they can get right now.

Obviously if they unify the WWE and WHC, the WHC will probably be the 1 that gets retired.

The "spinning belt" is the WWE Championship. Why should they retire a belt in favor for another one from a different organization? That would be like retiring the Intercontinental Championship in favor of the U.S. Championship.

This is crap! Why woud they retire the more prestigious titles? Around 2005 the WHC was apparently more prestiged than the WWE title!!!

Who said they will keep the same design as the non-retired belt?

WWE still has an "out" with the Women's belt if they want to use it, since "officially" McTaker had no claim to the Women's title - Layla was the one that won it. It's just a question of whether or not WWE want to have LayCool feud about it.

WWE.com says: "With every Diva participating at ringside as a lumberjill for this historic match, Michelle was forced to fight Melina on her own at first. Layla initially refused to assist her best friend after Michelle tricked her two nights earlier on SmackDown. But Friday night’s rift was all a ruse. Layla stepped in to help Michelle when she needed it most, allowing Michelle to pin Melina for the victory. Now, Lay-Cool – the Divas’ division true queens of mean – reign supreme with the Unified Divas Championship."
I don't think those two are going to fight over much anytime soon. |

Well, I think the WWE Tag Team Championship has been success since it's inception. Great teams like Los Guerrerors, Angle/Benoit, The World's Greatest Tag team, MNM, Miz and Morrison. Just because it's fairly new doesn't mean it hasn't be a success. In fact I think the champions that have held the WWE ag Team Championships have been superior than the teams that held the World Tag Team Championships since there have been two tag titles.
I don't know how you could actually mix both histories together to make it make any sense. I think they should just retire both title histories. They should now retroactively call the unified tag team championship as a brand new title with a new title history. So, starting with Primo and Carlito just count them as the first "WWE Tag Team Champions." I don't really care about the Tramp Stamp/Woman's title suitation. LayCool will probably now still carry two titles around. So, I think very little will change in terms of Divas wrestling. Most of the matches will be useless tag team matches that serve no purpose. Unless they finally try to give Natty the title I could really care less. |
