Sting-Hogan
ok so my mate told me about a Sting DVD and mentioned something about a Hogan-Sting match at some point which was hyped for like 18 months! I was just curious as to whether it was a decent match/hype etc? I love ongoing feuds...they make for quality viewing IMO...maybe thats whats missing from the WWE at present.
BTW i have also heard about a finger poke of doom somewhere which pissed a lot of people off??? Has this happened or am i imagining things?! (wouldn't be the first time!! )

Sting DVD?
And yes, the feud between Sting/Hogan was a match built up for a good year before they finally clashed at Starcade '97. It was Sting's first official match since Sept. '96. However, the finish of the match was poorly booked. Hogan nailed the legdrop and from all views, Nick Patrick made a fair 3-count. But Bret Hart came down to ringside and stopped the bell from being rung, and ordered the match to be restarted. Sting then gets Hogan in the Scorpion Deathlock, Hogan taps, Bret calls for the bell and Sting is the new world champ. FInger poke of doom... must be referring to the infamous "finger poke of death." Hogan had challenged Nash for the WCW title shortly after winning the title from Goldberg at Starcade '98. It looked like Hogan and Nash were really gonna go at it, then Hogan just pokes Nash in the chest, Nash falls down, and Hogan makes the cover for a 1-2-3, making Hogan the WCW champ once again. |

I took this from twnpnews.com:
Quote:
The Finger Poke of Doom was an angle where shortly after Kevin Nash beat Goldberg for the WCW world title, he dropped the title on Nitro to Hulk Hogan. Instead of an actual match, the two nWo members walked into the ring, Hogan poked Nash in the chest, Nash crumpled, and Hogan covered him for the win. The two got up laughing, and most fans felt it was a slap in the face,as this was a sign Hogan ran things backstage and the angle cheapened the title. |

It was at Starrcade 1997 and was a total let down. Hogan was meant to get a fast count on Sting which would bring out Bret Hart to restart the match. Only the count wasn't fast and it ruined everything.
Finger poke of doom happen in the first week of January 1999 on Nitro. Kevin Nash "dropped" the World title to Hogan when they have a "fake" match. Hogan pushed Nash with one finger and he sold it better than any move he had sold in his life. Of course, there was pure outrage. They thought this would be smart business even though they knew WWF Raw was taped that week so they knew what they would be up against. On Raw, Mick Foley won the world title from The Rock in one of the greatest moments in Raw history and one of the most emotional wrestling moments of all time. |
