Do you think they did it on purpose?

Triple H became a main eventer IMO once he lost his long tights and switched to black trunks. He also got bigger

CM Punk looked more like a main eventer once he started using trunks as opposed to jean shorts

Edge in my eyes, looked like a main eventer once he ditched his Chad Kroeger hair, and cut it abit shorter. it also helped that he got more attention thanks to the Lita/Matt Hardy love triangle. These two factors went hand in hand at the time. The timing was perfect

Do you think they've done these changes consciously knowing that it would make them look like a main eventer, or did they become main eventers because they looked more appealing with the new changes?

Could be that either they changed their appearance because they knew a ME push was coming, or that they felt like a change, and someone higher up noticed it and thought it was a great look.

CM Punk definitely looked more 'legit' when he went from shorts to trunks.

A psychical change can also mark the end of a push or could mean the end of somebody's popularity.

I've seen quite of few pushes killed when long hair got trimmed down. I can clearly remember this being true for Test, Billy Gunn and Val Venis. Christian got a push after he cut the hair, but then they took away his cool At last theme and then gave him a generic one before getting the awesome one he ended his first wwe tenure with. A think that British Bulldog was alot more over when he had the dreadlockss then when he had the normal/buzz cut.

I agree that all wrestlers look more legit with trunks rather than some sort of shorts. I can only think of two guys who got over wrestling in shorts: John Cena and Justin Credible. Punk's shorts really made him look dumb as they kindof looked like they were actually swimming trunks. Of course he was wrestling in the independents, so it was really professional wrestling to begin with. If you can wrestle without a shirt in the indys you are already a step above the rest.

A great example is The Miz. I heard that it was Vince that suggested that he switch to trunks after he saw him as The Calgary Kid. Apparently Vince told him that he "has nice legs" so he should change to trunks.

It was a great change though. He really looks "legit" with trunks.

In Test's case this is a huge tragedy. I've always been a fan of Test, and remember when he first changed his look thinking 'hell yeah, now he looks like a main eventer'. Especially when he was in ECW.

I think that's a ridiculous way to get a push. I feel wrestlers should get a push by being consistent in the ring with their skills to put on a great wrestling match, the way it should be. Call me old-fashioned or old-school, but that's how I look at it realistically.

Looks come and go, it's their wrestling talent that will shine, unless you're in WWE and TNA, as they'll restrict your abilities.

In some ways I agree with your old school mentality, but the wrestling industry being what it is, no company will give you a strong push if they don't think you have a good look.

Look at the people in the 'Attires that make you think WTF' thread... could you imagine pushing any of them?

IDK. I think that the superstar look is obviously a factor in a guy becoming a main eventer. But there have been tons of guys who have become main event players without having to change up their look. I can't imagine Shawn Michaels or Jeff Hardy or Undertaker wearing underwear tights.

Its mostly Vince and management wanting a wrestler to change their looks either to repackage them or to determine their looks for an upcoming push. I doubt a wrestler will say "no" if Vince tells them to change their look as a hint for a push or title reign.

Edge cut his hair around the same time when a lot of long hair wrestlers were cutting their hair because Vince or management didn't like the long hair look anymore (with a few exceptions).

I think Miz ended up changing his look from the pants during his tag team time to the trunks as a way to show off his new egocentric heel character. Its also similar to how Jericho became the egocentric and sinister heel once he switched to trunks as well.

Yeah I know what you mean, you basically have to take a hard look at yourself and see what "look" works best for you. It's like getting in the zone or finding alignment and realizing it. Looking at yourself in tapes and seriously critiquing your appearance, trying not to compare yourself to others, but always trying to one up yourself

HBK always looked good with long tights, so he never really had to change that about him anyways. Hair on the other hand, I recall reading his book and someone told him he had to grow his hair long. In his early AWA days, he had short thick hair. Overtime he evolved his look and long hair worked best at the end

Rock ditched his curly afro and a much shorter brush cut worked best for him. He even ditched the sideburns eventually.

Cena looks better with shorts instead of trucks, IMO.

Edge really screamed midcarder with that long Nickleback hair. My buddy (who I consider to be a fashion-savy hipster) and I were playing SD! vs RAW and while waiting for the screen to load, there was a picture of Edge. He couldn't help but to comment on his "Nickleback" hairstyle and poked fun at him. Edge didn't even have to bulk up or switch to trunks. All he had to do was cut the hair a bit and he looked like a main eventer

MVP recently said that he wanted to change his hair but was not permitted to because of licensing issues. Probably anything more than the most minor changes in appearance have to be allowed by management, so I would think the switch of ringwear was suggested to them rather than they just did it on their own.
