How come they always use the old style guard rails and not the ones they use for televised events?

Think the televised ones are for just that, more for the way they look on TV. And because they are cheaper.

Well, it's not so much cheapness than it is space on the trucks I'd guess. The padded ones take up a bit more room, I'm sure, and they travel to house shows relatively light (just lighting and the ring, for the most part).
