He's gone because Wade Barrett fired him. If Barrett won, he would have been able to leave Nexus and keep wrestling, but he didn't. Don't you know anything about wrestling?

I think they were hoping to have someone to replace him while he did other things but it seems like they were wrong and they need Cena to make a quota for Monday Nights so they've kept him along for this Nexus storyline.

The Raw GM will probably say that he/she's sick of Cena interfering in matches all the time and attacking Nexus so he/she will rehire Cena just so the interfering can stop. Cena will probably ask for a match with Barrett which will be granted and take place at either the Royal Rumble or WrestleMania.

They think the fans wouldn't notice the same bullshit all over again. This is one of the reasons I'm not upset if I happen to forget it's on. If I miss a few weeks, then everything seems somewhat fresh. Everything's so predictable you're never really lost.
