Did you like Ric Flair's first WWF run?

Around the time he had that feud with Randy Savage where Mrs. Elizabeth

How do you compare this time to his WCW days? I wasn't a wrestling fan at the time, so wait for it.......FILL ME IN!

Was his character different in WWF_style? How did it compare to his WCW persona? Was he mainly a heel in WWF and a face in WCW?

I don't think anyone is going to answer no to this, Naitch. Pretty sure Flair's run and the 1992 Rumble are religion around here.

His first WWF run was amazing. He wasn't even there that long, but he pretty much lit the world on fire. The 1992 Royal Rumble and that feud with Savage are two of my favorite things ever.

Also, shut up, The Naitch.

Yeah, ever since Flair arrived on the doorstep of the WWF they began to build a program with Hogan that would have made Wrestlemania 8 a legendary endeavor. Instead Hogan fucked off and we were left with the worst close to any Mania ever. I don't know if I ever thought about this too much, but did Hogan purposefully run off into the night because of some kind of Flair-inspired stick up his ass? He left the company when Flair was riding the crest of the company and turned up again shortly after he headed back to WCW. What I know about Hogan would lead me to read into this, but I've never heard any confirmation on it.

I kind of lost my point in all of that. Basically, Flair's WWF run was awesome and could have been even better if he had had a proper build towards the opponents he went against; but between his debut and Wrestlemania he basically spent the whole time prepping for Hogan, passed the first half verbally sparring with Piper, and the second half in a last-minute-replacement feud against Savage.

Considering how quick he rose to the top, and how well they seemed to book him, I'm surprised he was only there for a little over a year.

How many top guys have jumped ship, only to be either buried or never get past the mid card. Flair was shot right to the top, and I'm curious as to why he left. Anybody have an idea of he didn't last long?

the ending to Mania 8 is my fav close of a show of all-time. I'll never forget the Warrior's music hitting and him flying down to the ring to save Hogan. That was pretty much the last good Warrior moment if you were a Warrior fan.

Anyway, I don't think there has ever been a definite reason as to why Hogan/Flair never went down.

I've read the house show numbers were horrible for the one's they've main evented, I've read Sid had it in his contract that he was to main event Mania, I've read Hogan didn't want to job.

I bet Hogan bitched at the thought of jobbing because Flair was not a WWF guy and he probably got in Vince's ear as to why the WWF would put him over thier biggest star of the past 8 years.

It's a bit off topic but it's mine too. Bobby Heenan saying "Hogan hasn't got a friend left" just as Warrior music hits has to be the best call ever. Intentional or not.

The angle with Savage/Elizabeth used shooping before shooping was cool!

Also, this was back in the era of "injuries". Flair was "put on the shelf" in WCW. When he went back to Turnerland, he "recovered from his injury".

Heenan made Flair 100x greater by marking out over him at every opportunity. Sort of like what Cole is doing with Miz right now, but a billion times better.

Great for what it was, but a huge disappointment with all the possibilities that were just not done.

Flair vs Hogan

OK, I think the deal with Hogan was it was in the middle of the whole steroid scandal, so going AWOL was probably a way to take the heat off of himself (and the company) for a while

Quote:
After a planned program with Hogan was scrapped due to Hogan's hiatus following the WWF's steroid scandal, Randy Savage challenged Flair for the WWF title at WrestleMania VIII.
I read in Bischoff's book that when Hogan first came to WCW, Flair was very accomodating and gladly DID THE JOB for Hogan. WCW built up Hogan so much and eventually won the title. Flair on the other hand, expected Hogan to return the favour (since he thought that was "the code", the way you should conduct business) and drop the title back to him, but Hogan didn't want to. This left a bad taste in Flair's mouth. Hogan thought that it was stupid to drop the title back to Flair so soon since they spent the whole time building Hogan up upon his arrival

In the spring of 1991, Flair had a contract dispute with WCW president Jim Herd, who wanted him to take a substantial pay cut. Herd had removed Flair as head booker in February 1990 and wanted to reduce Flair's role in the promotion even further, despite the fact that Flair was still a top draw. According to Flair, Herd also proposed changes in his appearance (i.e. by shaving his hair, wearing a diamond earring and going by the name "Spartacus") as well as his in-ring name in order to "change with the times". Flair disagreed with the proposals, and two weeks before The Great American Bash, Herd fired him and vacated the WCW Championship. While Flair had left for the WWF he was still recognized as the NWA World Champion until September 8, when the title was officially vacated.

On The Ultimate Ric Flair Collection DVD, Flair described his first stint with the WWF as "the greatest year and a half of my career, outside the time I spent with Arn Anderson and The Four Horsemen."

Honestly as a moment I find it particularly awesome, especially with the already mentioned timing, accidental or no, with Heenan's words vs the Warrior's music cue.

As an ending to a Wrestlemania, a DQ ending followed by run-ins from Papa Shango and Jim Helwig cannot be topped in terms of crap-titude.

The first Flair WWF run was pretty much perfect other than the fact they didn't have the Hogan-Flair program play out. I would have had that main event Wrestlemania and then save Flair vs. Savage for Summerslam.

I loved Flair's association with Heenan and Mr. Perfect.
