Scott Steiner's less talented brother (Rick Thread)

I thank Fox for the loving name of this thread but it is true? The Steiners are arguably the greatest tag team of all time (there near the top in my book) but, was Scott the only good part of the team? I always like Rick, he reminds me alot of Stevie Ray from Harlem Heat. Both of them were talented and had overall great careers, but they were over shadowed by their brothers. Do you feel that Rick was just around because of his bro, or did he have spmething to add on his own?

FEELS LIKE I'M WEARING NOTHING AT ALL

I always liked both Rick and Scott. I always enjoyed them as a team, but as rivals, it just didn't seem right to me. I believed it was forced, because WWF had a rivalry between brothers work very well.

I think WCW wanted their own version of Bret vs. Owen, and it didn't work.

Never was a fan. As a kid I was not interested in "college athletes" I was in to the Undertakers or the Yokozunas or the Doink the Clowns....They were impressive looking back but at the time they didn't do anything for me.

Then in WCW Rick became a lacky Thunder guy on the Muthaship. And Scott went insane on steroids and other goofballs.

So yeah I dont think or care much about either of them.

He was a "tag team specialist." He was good at what he did. But take him out of his element and put him in singles and he's garbage.

To be fair though Scotty was pretty garbage in singles wrestling too.

At the time, Rick had the charisma of the team.

Also, part of the reason why they went back to WCW was because Vince allegedly wanted to turn Scott heel then (when he could actually work), but Rick vetoed it.

Loved the Steiner brother tag team, never cared much for either as singles wrestlers minus Scott's "Iron Sheikesque" promos...

I don't think though Rick was around per say because of Scott as Rick had been around previous to Scott's debuting when in the Varsity Club. He was more of a character than Scotty, and served his purpose during the latter half of his career as previously mentioned on Thunder or as part of a group.

Rick Steiner sucks all around. I never liked him. Scott was at least entertaining on the mic, had a cool catchphrase, walked around with hot women and occasionally had some entertaining matches.

Rick had none of those things. Terrible on the mic, boring in the ring, no hot women. His gimmick was barking because he was fucking ugly and looked like a dog. Not much of a gimmick.

He also took the WCW TV Title off of Booker T, one of my favorite mid-carders at the time, and then held the belt for an absolutely shitty 127 days. He lost it to Benoit, which made me happy again, but then he won it back and held onto it for another 28 days. The title was discarded into the trash can like a week later. I hold Rick Steiner and his terribleness personally responsible for the demise of the WCW Television Championship, which gave us some of the best undercard matches in WCW history.

Rick was around long before Scott reared his presterioded head. Rick was usually the mouthpiece until Scott got a little more comfortable on the screen. Over time SCott over took the lead spot, but they were both tag team specialists and at one time Scott was the more creative of the two, Frankenstiener anyone?

The Steiner Brothers are what a tag team should be, greater than the sum of its parts.

They were around during the time when tag team wrestlers were there not to be broken up and sent as singles stars but when tag teams were meant to stay together for years and years.

Most of the great tag teams were better together than apart.... Steiners, Dudleys, Road Warriors, Demolition and Nasty Boys were all better together than apart. This was the way of things back in the 80's and early 90's before the WWE started breaking up teams to make stars (ie Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels). When the WWE saw how well these guys did outside the realm of the tag division that was the beginning of the end of tag team wrestling.

I love Tag Team wrestling, because of the double team maneuvers two people can come up with. It takes a lot of synchronization, timing, and creativity to perfect it.

What's also amazing and rarely talked about are Trios (Six-Man Tag Team Wrestling). Back in the old days, there used to be Six-Man Tag Team Championships around the World.

This is a good age barometer of the TPWW forums.

Anyone old enough to remember Rick with the wrestling headgear and Michigan letter jacket as the more popular Steiner than the bland, hockey-haired younger brother (or even before Scott came along) will have fond memories of him.

The younger crowd only knows of the blonde, chainmail hood wearing, nWo, post "White Thunder", Superstar Billy Grahm-esque Scott Steiner, and that Rick seemed to be a hanger-on with the black leather jacket and spiked dog collar.

Funny what time can do.

Both of them in their primes (80s-mid 90s) were sensational workers. I've seen Rick go hold for hold with both Bret and Owen Hart. I don't think for a second they were bad workers BUT obviously as time goes on and injuries and steroids pile up, it's hard to maintain their style.

I loved the Steiners' match against Bret and Owen Hart back in 1994, before they left to return to Japan. It's definitely a must-see.

This.

Man, I'm starting to see some sensible shit in here again. Brings a tear to my eye.

Rick was a main eventer before Scott, in the NWA. He was better than him at that time, and more over than him. However, like Dale said, after time injuries totally changed both guys work level, forever.

I remember the Steiners when i first started watching in the early 90s. I always like them as a team. They had a good look, and great chemistry.

Tom Guycott has it right. By the time the Attitude Era showed up, Rick was getting older, breaking down, and as time went on, his time as a meaninful part of a company started diminishing, while Scott started to rise more and more.

But at one point, I'd venture to say that Rick was just as valuable to the team as Scott, if not more.

What was the tag match where the Hardliners (Dick Slater and Dick Murdoch) debuted? It was the Steiners vs. a Japanese tag team. The other noteworthy thing about the match was that one of the Japanese guys kicked Rick so hard that he actually broke his ear guards.

The Steiner Brothers vs. Masahiro Chono and Hiroshi Hase from the Clash Of The Champions (6/12/91)

Chono Yakuza kicked Rick so hard, it did break his headgear.

Well when they were in the WWF it was pretty bad, BUT when they were in the old NWA (someone who knows better correct me if I'm wrong) they came out to Welcome to the Jungle, so I think it balances out.

I always found Rick to be borderline retarded, and annoying as hell. Ive never been a fan of anything hes ever done solo. I liked them both better as a team.

I saw that live.

I had no idea what "Working Stiff" meant at the time, but I can admit that my 11 year old brain said the equivalent of "HOLY SHIT!" when that happened.
