The strangest thing about this era is that...
Almost everybody in WWE has held a version of the world/WWE title.
I think this hurts the product, in the Hogan years only maybe 5 people in the whole company had been world champ. Fast forwarding to the attitude era only the most over stars had the strap. Nowadays its seems they give the belt to someone they are trying to make a main eventer. A champion makes the belt not the other way around. If you count the amount of people on the active roster who have been world/WWE champ the number is phenomenal. |

Ya pretty much all the top guys will get a run with one of the world titles it seems. They mean very little now. Think about all the legends that never won a world title - Dibiase, Hennig, Rude, etc. If there were guys today as over as them and on top for as long, they'd pretty much be guaranteed a title run.

I counted 13. Considering there are about 55 active male wrestlers in WWE today, that's 23%.

I take it you loved John Cena being WWE champion for over a year then. The belt is a prop, if it can help guys get over who wouldn't otherwise get over what's the problem? Sheamus, Swagger and Ziggler are hardly David Arquette.
Also back in Hogan's era there were only four PPVs a year so his reigns might have been longer but it's not like he was defending it every month. He would even get himself put in tag matches on half the shows so he didnt have to defend it. What if this years Wrestlemania main event was Miz & Alex Riley vs Cena & Daniel Bryan? Would that be a good idea? |

Going by the roster pages on WWE.com, there are 46 superstars on RAW and 36 on Smackdown! respectively. WWE/World Heavyweight title holders break down like this:
RAW 6/46 Comes to about 13% of the roster. Smackdown! 7/36 Comes to about 19% of the roster. Total comes to almost 16% (including Divas because I forgot to subtract them, but I see Triple Naitch has the more official number). |

It's not so strange. You have like 3 times the programming, at least twice the major belts (If you're including TNA AND ECW, you had a period with four major televised belts...), depending on the era like 4 times the PPVs (where most of the changes take place).
Plus, the number of title changes progressively went up as the biz changed. It's like basketball. It's not your granddaddy's sport of a bunch of white guys playing low impact around a peach basket. And wrestling ain't your daddy's fake sport of one guy holding a title for 22 years. But in the Attitusde Era, we had multipel guys come within reasonable distance of being abel to dwarf Flair's record. WOOOOOOO! We started to see a few "thank you" runs. Something even the fans seem to support these days. I guess what I'm saying is....Times change. |

It would be funny to think if the WWF did TV and PPV as much in the 80s as they did now who would have won World Titles.

yeah thats fine but how many of the 55 appear on Raw and Smackdown on a weekly basis? I bet at least 12 of the 13 former champs (excluding Khali) all appear and get the bulk of the airtime thus giving the impression that most have been world champ.

13 active wrestlers appeared on Raw this week boffins, 7 of which are either the current or former world/WWE champs. This is my point too many of the MAIN roster have had the strap

I would think that's more indicative of a need to get more people on TV. Only 13 guys on a 120-minute show?

Across the A and B shows and considering who gets the most TV time it appears everyone has had the strap is what I was saying. Its the impression that is put across. Considering that probably 30 active guys are on TV on Raw and Smackdown every week and nearly half of them have had the title id do consider that to be phenomenal.
Also Jericho, Batista and HBK have all left in the last 12 months which made the number bigger. I expect that Del Rio and Ziggler will probably get runs in the near future too, its too much. |

For the record: Punk, Cena, Orton, Sheamus, Show, Edge, Kane, and Rey have held the belt while Bryan, Morrison, Santino, Kozlov, Del Rio, Masters, McIntyre, Kofi, Wade, Dolph, Henry, McGillicutty, Truth, Kidd, Brodus, Heath, JTG, and Gabriel have not. |
