How good is Jim Cornette?
This is a really good vid from Jim and he has alot of really good opinions about the wrestling business. If you watch his vids, he talkes about how horrible some people are to the wrestling business and gives LEGIT reasons on why he thinks that. I'm not sure how much of an input he had but while he was apart of TNA but they had a great show. (good mix of homegrown and outside stars) After Hogan, Bischoff and Russo came in, he left and is now apart of ROH. I really didnt watch it before but they put on a much better program that RAW or Impact. How knowledgeable do you think James E Cornette is, and what do you think of his ideas and direction he has for professional wrestling? Side note, does anyone know why there is soo much bad blood between him and Kevin Dunn? ![]() FEELS LIKE I'M WEARING NOTHING AT ALL NOTHING AT ALL NOTHING AT ALL |

Which person is better off? The guy with all the talent and brains in the world but a terrible attitude that he can't control long enough to hold down a job or the guy with minimal talent who's smart enough to work within the system and has a buttload of success?
Cornette acts like he's a genius, but in reality he's just a big fuckup with a bad temper. |

He may be stuck in the 80's, but he would book a wrestling show that you would watch....

I never watch ROH, he is/was booker there, I think. Find most of his ideas boring tbh, he thinks wrestling shows should be predominantly wrestling whereas I like the angles & promos. Some of his rants are funny, on occasion. |

That doesn't give him the right to be a douchebag. If he was more professional people would want to work with him.
So in actuality, it's his fault that wrestling isn't great right now. |

I don't think he really cares at this point, hence why he's being so umm upfront, he's set for life, he's got his little podcast show, he's happy. He's also damn entertaining.

He's got a brilliant wrestling mind, like Heyman, neither were ever used properly when working in the E (Heyman was for 02 but look how long that lasted then look at new ECW *sigh*), I like listening to brilliant minds talk wrestling, so therefore bitter or not Cornette entertains me.

Cornette's own promotion called Smoky Mountain Wrestling was a fun one to watch during the early 90's from 1992-95
had some big names in there over the few yrs it was open and he was a fairly good booker Cornette has a brilliant mind for this business and his shoot interviews are always hilarious especially his first one from 2000 and the one he did with Bobby Heenan Here's some of my favorite clips from Smoky Mountain |

I must say, that is an admirable amount of contempt for one man... that he would alter his diet so that he may have the opportunity to live longer than another man just so he can figuratively and literally piss on his grave. Steel resolve, right there.
On an unrelated note: I like him BDC. Does automatically mean that mean I'm as bitter as he is? |

I'd say this to Jim Cornette:
a good wrestling mind. But motherfucker you can't slap the shit out of someone because your pissed off at them. Thats not how BUSINESS is done. This isn't the mob. "they were looking for a reason and when I slapped him 17 times that was it" or whatever. If you're a golden boy and you slap the shit out of someone I'd fire you too. |

Cornette is nuts but he does have a great mind.
And while he is stuck in the past, and wrestling does change, at base its always the same and I think that he can help the business more than most. |

He has the opinions and feelings of a hardcore fan, which leads to rants the IWC largely agrees with. And that's all well and good, aside from the fact that the joke is ultimately on him.
He's managed to burn every bridge to the point where he's just a bitter fan, like everyone else. |

Again at this point I don't think he cares. I don't get the feeling that he's broke, I don't even know that he's interested in working with any of the companies anymore.
If he is then yeah he's doing it wrong, but if he isn't then you can't really say that burning bridges is a knock against him. |

He gets pretty damn riled up. He most likely has real anger issues. Everyone is more entertaining when they're angry. That's just pretty basic.
When he goes on rants, I find myself interested because he's trashing things I probably agree with him trashing. That's low hanging fruit. When it comes to his actual ideas, he's way too hung up on the 80s. |

I don't know how one can get a feeling of whether one is well off or not, short of seeing their bank statements.
My guess would be that Jim Cornette is not well off, just based on common sense. I'm sure he's made a decent living but I highly doubt he's sitting pretty and doesn't have to worry about ever making money again in his life. Not even the biggest stars of wrestling have that luxury. |

Something tells me that he pissed away a lot of his money with the other guys out partying. I heard he has cleaned up since then. But that is money spent. So I'm inclined to agree with Jeri here. Cornette might have a nest egg, but not enough to not work ever again. |

I meant well off enough that he doesn't need to work in WWE or TNA, he's exec Producer of ROH, he works with OVW (I think anyway), those are more his style of work anyway, in ROH he gets creative freedom that he'd never get working TNA or WWE
You can dislike his attitude that's fine, I was just specifically addressing the issue of bridge burning, in as much as I don't think that's a valid criticism, not to mention I don't think there's such thing as bridge burning in the wrestling business, people slag WWE all the time and Vince hires them back. |

Set for life was a poor choice of words I meant that he's set enough that working in WWE or TNA is not a necessity, he can afford to take less and work in places like OVW, ROH where he's probably way happier

To the topic at hand....
Jim Cornette is a bitch. He gets paid to talk shit about people who are more successful than him, and somehow the 1,000 (+ maybe?) ROH fans that stuck by the product after it was thrust into a time machine back to Knoxville 1991, make him feel like he is still a genius. Well if he was ever a genius he would still have a sucessful indy company and he doesn't it closed. The other company he was involved with (OVW) lost it's connection to the largest promotion in the history of the world. And his current company just lost it's national TV deal, and averages audiences of 3-500 per show AND has wrestlers on written contracts. So no he is not a genius he is the biggest mark on the face of the planet and I feel sorry for anybody that has to take a care ride with him and I feel sorry for any young wrestler who gets to be his protege and carry his greasy bags from shit town to shit town, from Burger King to Taco Bell, and who has to wash his jock after that one day at the gym each month. What did he ever book in WCW or WWE anyway? To my knowledge, nothing, he was just a good manager and an annoying smarky commentator. |

I believe he was on the booking team under Russo for Vince (must have loved that) and did some of JR/Johnny Ace talent relations type stuff before being shipped to OVW to do the same type of thing. Or something along those lines.

Problem with judging a booker is there are no credits that say what they did exactly, it's probably so spread out in WWE that not one person could take credit for very much.
