Why All The Hate

Why all the hate for the old school era of wrestling around here?

It seems like alot of you people really don't respect that era

everytime now I make a comment about something that isn't from the last 15 yrs I get someone making a smart aleck comment

"Big Surprise From Seth82"

It seems like if it isn't WWE then you people think it is SHIT

Explain this to me gentlemen...

Bill Savage went over to the (Stu Hart) house and one of the Hart kids was running around with his hair wet. Savage asked why his hair was wet. Stu said, "the little bast--d broke a vase this morning, so I stuck his head in the toilet. Want me to show you again?"

I can't even remember the last time you contributed ANYTHING about something from the past 15 years.

Either I've just missed them and/or your other posts just blend in with the rest of the static in this forum. The latter isn't good.

It was pretty dull. Hell, I even hated the 80's/early 90's WWF as a kid.

Now let's all talk about silent movies.

I remember a lot of random members saying they would LOVE to watch Gorgeous George (that dead guy who went to the HoF last year) wrestle these days. If that was the case, they would probably have fallen asleep midway into a match.

This. When I saw you'd posted in that thread about backstage interviewers, it was a dead cert you were going to have posted somebody from 'back in the day'. Which is fine if you actually feel that way. But like Xero's quoted post implies, it's like every single post you make. But at least you aren't DLVH84. And your picture thread was pretty sweet.

Well I agree 70's wrestling is great, and even 80's, I love to watch it. But there is only so much one can talk about the good ol days, maybe you should find Jim Cornette.

I think it's because we are all just sick of people saying "the attitude era was so awesome and it'll never be the same again." Every place where wrestling is talked about we hear that every single day.

It's like Lara Emily's unexplained love for Wade Barrett. I was talking in the Vault chat with Jeritron yesterday. I like Wade Barrett and I have since he started on NXT. Though Lara's obsession with Wade has soured my opinion on him significantly. I mean he's a good wrestler, but he's not worthy of that amount of praise. He's also not that good looking, so I don't know why she's so psycho about him.

When you see non-stop excessive praise for something your opinion of it normally lowers. It's like when you see an extremist of a political party. Hardcore elements often do more damage for a party than they do good.

Stop claiming the Attitude era was so awesome all the time and we'll all be better off for it. It wasn't perfect and don't try to sit here and say that the attitude era's shit didn't stink. Wrestlecrap.com will be working for years and years to write up the crap that happened along with the good stuff that happened.

Calm down with your praises and we'll be able to rationally explain what was good and bad about the era.

Barrett is a) a heat machine b) A Great mic work and c) Solid in the ring, nothing to do with his attractiveness, he's got all the tools to be a top heel soon, hell he'd be ready now had they not sent him to Smackdown to battle Big Show in endless DQ finishes

I like that my interest in him made you hate him lol, kinda cool to have that kind of absolutely illogical influence on someone.

No, people make those comments because THAT'S THE ONLY THING YOU EVER FUCKING TALK ABOUT.

Every time someone makes a topic, you waltz on over to Obsessed With Wrestling or Wikipedia or OWOW and find some random stat about some random wrestler from the 70s that is completely irrelevant to the conversation and try to work it into the conversation. If that's your thing, fine. Great. I hope good things come from that. But nobody else gives a shit. Nobody cares about Terry Gordy tearing it up on the Georgia indy scene in 1972. It's completely irrelevant.

Terry Gordy started wrestling in 1975 at the age of 14 as Terry Mecca for the I.W.A. In early 1979, he began wrestling under his real name and formed the Fabulous Freebirds with Michael Hayes. Buddy Roberts was later added to the group. In 1982, the Freebirds went to World Class Championship Wrestling and had a heated and memorable feud with the Von Erichs (David, Kevin, Kerry and Mike).

It probably also has to do with the fact that your interest in old wrestling seems disingenuous and you're only doing it to be the cool vintage guy who likes stuff from long ago.

How old are you? If your not atleast 45 years old, then your "love" for the old school is a gimmick, and that is where all your "heat" comes from.

Then there's no fucking way. And I was being very serious with my question, and very serious about my next comment. Usually the only time someone so separates themselves from others in their generation by decades could mean either, home schooled, deprived, sheltered, brainwashed, abused, bullied, outcast-ed, secluded, trapped, emo, clearly getting attention or being accepted it the goal with you here, so if you are 28, which one were you? No fucking way a 80's baby could develop that kind of "love" for a decade they have no fucking way of understanding.

Well, I grew up in the 1980's (being born in 1977) and I can honestly say that I loved, and sorely miss, wrestling from those days. I don't talk about it much here, because it seems people here either don't care about it, or never knew it, or both, but to me, it's sad that those days are long gone. Times change, things change, whatever. And I'm not here saying today's product sucks. Not at all. It's just that I do miss the 80's.

So you do not find it weird that all this 28 year talks about is the 70's? What would you attest that to? If this was real world here, I would seriously feel bad for the kid.

I love the 80's, do not know much about the 70's, but the 80's was why I fell in love with the product.

Somewhat out of the ordinary? Maybe, sure. Ridiculously worrisome? God no. Its not worth getting your panties in a bunch over. Yeah, I get that he talks about old school wrestling too much. But thats about as far as you can extrapolate.

Pretty much what they said (only replace "Attitude Era" with NWA/MEmphis Wrestling/Jim Crockett Promotions/aet/etc/etc.

We already have one "Wrestling Historian" who goes out of his way to shove this fact down our throats, we don't been another.

It all comes off of as sactimonious to me. Is there a need to tell us when "X" happened? Most of us already know. And it's as if you're saying "You guys don't know what you're talking about if you like modern wrestling. Try this. it's much better".

You're "appreciation" threads were tanamount to spamming IMO.

Personally I'm sick of people banging on about the past ad nauseum. I wish people would stop for a second and appreciate the good stuff that we have now. Your constant references to the past don't help that and thus it is annoying to me.

Just because I am 28 doesn't mean I cannot appreciate wrestling from the 70's and 80's

It just seemed like a more fun time to be a wrestling fan and I like the wrestlers from that era like Ric Flair, Terry Funk, Von Erichs, Nick Bockwinkel and many others

Hell I even like the band Velvet Underground and they're from the late 60's

does that mean I should stop listening to them since I am not from their time lol

No, it means that the 80's 70's and/or 60's is ALL you can talk about, then maybe search for "Retro" themed message board, cause you will have no fun here, seriously. Cause quite honestly TPWW Wrestling usually doesn't go back further then 1996, anything before then, like the 80's I would go to another board if I want conversation.
