Why do internet fans mark for jobbers
I see it a lot, whether it's Zack Ryder or Steve Blackman, etc.
Why is this? Ppl are all liek "fuck Cena" and "The Rock is f'kin boring now" yet want jobbers like Trent Barreta on TV. Is it to be funny or wat. |

Because we want wrestling, and Zack fucking Ryder can be entertaining as hell, it's just that WWE won't let him, but we know he's got it.

If Zack Ryder got a mega push, I'm sure about 80% of the IWC would complain after over analyzing his matches and promos. It seems to be a pattern lol

This is an interesting topic and I can think of several explanations.
1) People root for the jobbers because they view themselves as jobbers of real life. 2) People root for the jobbers because they like to root for the underdog. 3) People root for the jobbers because they want to be different. 4) People root for the jobbers because they're tired of the other stuff going on in the company. I don't actually believe #4 is real, but I'm sure some people will argue that it is. |

At least for me, I always root for the underdog. I know what it's like to be under-utilized at work and watch people less talented than me pass me by for promotions. So when I see someone with skill who is stuck in a rut while others get elevated, I'm going to pull for that guy.
Don't want to speak for the rest of the board, but that's at least my reasoning. |

It's because they think they know what the average wrestling fans would want, more so than Vince McMahon.
So basically, they are just acting like a bunch of fucking retards. |

As much as I usually like to jump on people for being arrogant snobs, I don't really see this as thinking you know better as much as it is identifying with someone and wanting them to succeed. I'm sure there's a mix of both of those things with some people and seeing a guy you like get buried will probably make you bitter eventually but there's nothing wrong with liking jobbers at the start.

It really depends on who it is. If they have a history of good work (for example, Daniel Bryan) then I'm going to like them, unless they completely change in the ring/on the mic/etc. If I actually enjoy what they do in the ring or on the mic, despite being "jobbers", then I'll like them.
Steve Blackman wasn't a "jobber". I'm not saying this to say "LULZ STEVE BLACKMAN!11!" He actually had a winning streak going for a while and had a kick ass match with Shane McMahon on PPV. He's a bad ass in the ring. Part of it is to be funny. He's a meme. But he wasn't a "jobber". He was a lower-tier guy who had a lot to like about him. It also depends on how you define or see a "jobber". Just because someone is on Superstars doesn't mean they're a "jobber". There's a chance of them working their way up in the company. It can almost be seen as "paying dues" within WWE's system. Trent Baretta may be something someday, he may not. It all depends on if he can be marketable to the mainstream and sell to Vince and creative that he's marketable. And who's to say people are supposed to LOVE the main eventers? WWE would obviously love that, don't get me wrong. But even the most casual fan who isn't a complete retard could see someone like Randy Orton and go "You know, I don't like him. He's slow and boring. He has a cool move, though. But that Cena guy, he's the man. He's always showing intensity in the ring and is a good guy. I like John Cena but I don't like Randy Orton that much." People watch Superstars, and I'm sure there are people who are fans of the Superstars crew, even the lower tier ones. If you're a real fan, you don't let position on the card get in the way of liking someone. |

also, i think your observation is a bit generalized. individual people have their favorite losers and the superstars they've grown tired of. it's not like everybody says "fuck Cena" and "The Rock is f'kin boring now" in unison.

Honestly, over the last year or two the Cena hate has died down. Whether it's people just being tired of bitching about him or Cena(/his booking) has improved is up for debate. But I definitely see more praise for Cena than before on TPWW.

That's a great question. I never understood it myself. The worst thing is that if a jobber gets a push, the IWC all of a sudden turns on him. It's so ridiculous. Now I like my share of jobbers too like Zach Ryder and I guess Yoshi Tatsu can be considered one but he usually wins, however, if they start getting major pushes I'll be even more excited, however, it's probably not going to happen anytime soon. The one person more than anyone I want to see get a decent push is Ted Dibiase. I've been a fan of his since his debut.

Masters is a bad example but yeah I see your point. But guys like Santino, Ryder, Bourne, and Tatsu seem like generally likable people with a decent amount of talent. Nothing wrong with rooting for someone like that to succeed.
Of course there's also something to be said about people wanting to become a fan of someone before it's cool to like them. I dunno. Fuck it. |

Either way, I remember 2004 when he was TPWW's darling and everyone wanted him to unify the titles and go to the moon, just like The Miz and Barrett now. I think with a lot it also just has to do with face/heel. There's really no one answer anymore. Some people hate him blindly. Some love him. Some think he's good but don't like the way he's booked. Like you said though, I think enough time has passed that everyone has come to terms with how they feel. But I also do think the way he's booked (although not neccessarily weaker) is more tolerable overall since 2008. |
