WWE in ring introductions?
Did TNA do it first? When did the WWE start doing it?

Nah. WWE (hell, even WCW) had been kind of alternating between this and entrance intros for years. Sometimes, the in-ring stuff was only reserved for title matches. Sometimes, whole cards. Other times, everyone was announced at the top of the ramp.

Around 2008, I remember it happening in a few Edge title matches.

I can't stand Jeremy Borash's voice.

The WWF used to do it in their very early Wrestlemanias.

The first time I remember seeing it in WWE (though I know it happened before this) was with Justin Roberts and I think it was a Cena match. Don't know why, but I'm thinking Cena vs. Edge from 2005.

A lot of older companies would do it back in the early 90's, maybe the 80's as well. Nowadays it's only done for title matches.

They would if they could afford $6,000 for a ring in this economy!

WCW used Michael Buffer for quite a few PPVs and even a few Nitros.

I love the intros. Gives a match a whole different feel, like, it's an important match.

You also get a better reaction from the fans to actually see if they like the superstars or not. When there is no music blaring you fully and clearly here the boos or the cheers as the announcer says the wrestlers name.
I would have loved if they did this sort of thing in main events when Howard Finkle was announcing in the 1990s. He always did in ring introductions like it was a boxing fight in the 70s and 80's at MSG. |
